I agree with what he^^ said. The car looked great in its first guise.

So right love to see it back like that. Reckon it looked real mean, and was.

This shot was taken in the 80's when the car was [and still is] owned and raced by George Sheweiry

Smelling it reminds me Tony, the only way I could ever stay in touch with those V8 cars was to follow closer than close down the straight so you got sucked along ,the number of times I had to fall away to get some fresh air or else the screen was absolutely covered with oil and antifreeze from them ,on a sunny day seeing through that screen was not good news

Bob, this has nothing to do with the Sidchrome Mustang, but the Sidchrome Imp. Those Sidchrome cars must have had a secret weapon. At the Bruce McLaren festival I followed Tony Mann, who was driving the Sidchrome Imp, around Pukekohe for a while just to get the measure of him, and do you know my screen got covered in oil mist and other fluids......couldnt see a damn thing. I thought the stuff was coming from my engine, but after a thorough inspection concluded that it all came from the Sidchrome car!! Next race I got past the pesky Imp and stayed there. I was only being kind, giving him a go at the front. Bugger it, thats the last time I'm going to be kind to anyone. Tony and I had less than 1/2 the horsepower of the next group of cars so we were at the back reliving the glory days when the Amco Mini, driven by Rod Collingwood, and the Sidchrome Imp driven by Jim Richards were fierce rivals on the track. The fact that the Amco Mini was ever so much more reliable than the Imp, meant that it actually finished races instead of expiring in a cloud of steam and/or smoke and/or other problems. Speed wise, they were about equal, both having about 100 hp.

Still and all, the Brimar/Sidchrome Imp was a stack more reliable than poor old Roy Harrington's Yellow Peril. Now THAT was a quixotic exercise in frustration.... or, "character-building", as it's known these days... nevertheless, it made Roy someting of a following, and we all kept an eye on him when he stepped up to that lovely blue Escort.

Thats awesome Milan. I really preferred that car in its original 1973/74 guise, but it still looks great in that photo.

Amazing to see the photos. Particularly of the Pukekohe races, as given the dates there is a good chance that I was there. Bob, I wonder if I've seen you racing. We used to regularly go visit the pits, so I've probably had good looks at many of these cars. We didn't take photos, or if my father did, I don't know where the photos are. So, it's really nice seeing these.
