That one is known as the "Vanguard Special" I used to own the other DeJoux GT known as the "Holden Special"

From my understanding the "Vanguard Special" was built by Kevin Lamb, on a widened TR4 chassis.

The "Holden Special" had a space frame and was built by Dennis Marwood. I purchased the car in the mid 80's fitted with a Holden 253 V8 by a previous owner Diana Coster, daughter of Don Coster, owner of "Coster Motors" formely in Dominion Rd, Mt Roskill, Auckalnd.
During the 6 yrs that I owned the car I made many changes including fitting Holden ventilated front discs, replacing the original burnt blue Cresta Discs. Replaced the original Cresta diff with a Holden 3.08 lsd. Rebuilt the dashboard using Jaguar instruments and a wood rim steering wheel. Better Radiator from a commodore, and yes I am the person that fitted the contentious MGB/GT sunroof, mainly because I happened to have one and the car got so hot inside as there was no air inlet. The car weighed 1060 kg and had a top speed of 140mph.

There were actually three of these cars built. The first was a 2+2. Happy with the success of the buckler body Ferris believed that there was a market for a fully enclosed coupe. He built the 2+2 car, used it as an everyday runner as well as racing it occassionally. Then Keven Lamb convinced Ferris to shorten the next car and make it a 2 seater. Hence the second car had 200 millimetres taken out of its roof and 100mm out its scuttle shortening the car by 300mm in total. The headlight arrangement was also altered.
Below is the only picture I have of the 2+2 (Ferris standing beside it) and also a picture of the car owned by KERRYO as it looks today with its current owner.

Thanks for posting that picture Patrick, I had heard rumors there was a third car but was never able to prove it. The rumor was that it had a Jaguar motor too.
I believe my old car is now fitted with a 350 Chev motor, which would make it pretty fast.

    Vanguard GT - TR3 Special ..

Found an article on the Vanguard TR3 Special that is referred to in this thread the Kevin Lamb built car.

The chassis a wrecked 1952 Vanguard with Motor which was modified to TR3 /TR4 spec.

Article in the March 1964 issue of Sports Car World - written by Grant Howard the mags NZ correspondent.

In that pic showing Ferris, you can see how short he was. His good friend Laurie Poolman told me that was a reason he created cars that were too small for folks of "standard" size, and frequently had to be reminded.

Apparently the De Joux Holden body mould was used for the Vanguard GT - but had to be cut and shortened to fit the Vanguard chassis ..
Will try to scan/copy/photograph the article - and post here.
Have put some details on my Vintage Cars thread too !!

KerryO hope you still follow TRS.
Thanks to Patrick for the photos and details to add to the story

    Roger,
That was the car that came up for sale in Hunterville a few years back, it was less motor and interior, the grill & screen was missing.
I think I heard Ferris used Humber 80 rear windows for the front srceen.
The car ended up in Nelson, I rung the guy to try and buy it but he wanted to rebuild it.
I have some pics of it too.
Its a nice shape and as you say was a shorter wheelbase.
