AHCC [ NZ ]then MGCC, Otaua Hill Climb and the VCC 's Chelsea Hill Climb

" Incidentally, for those who enjoyed the Chelsea Hillclimbs, the MGCC have invited the Vintage Car Club to the Otaua Hill Climb early March - the event previously run by the Austin Healey Club. I might see if I can wangle a pass for that .. "

" wrangle a pass " I presume from " Her indoors " Arfur Daily = George Cole, or " She who must be obeyed " Rumpole - of the Bailey " = Leo Mckern ".

It would be great if they did attend, would put cars back in the event as originally staged by AHCC from 1983 to 1990.

VCC cars like this would be there, I hope..
Understand in recent years the cars have been more " Rally " and various moderns Subarus Evo's etc..

a few details as posted on MGCC webpage
Edit from my Austin Healey thread :

" The MG Car Club have invited the Waitemata Branch of the Vintage Car Club - the Chelsea Hill Climb competitors to their HillClimb at Maioro Road, Otaua - the event founded by the Austin Healey Car Club of New Zealand in 1983.

Details from the MGCC calender are brief, as follows

    " Sunday, March 10

    Otaua Classic Hillclimb "

Back to the recently scanned - sorry about some of the poor quality, but photoshopping just one item takes for ever.

This original MG BV8 (many are uprated 1800cc cars) was a crowd favourite when we had a speed bar and Harley Norager getting black flagged and drive through penalty for beating it, worked well. But over time, so many cars beat the bar, that holding up the race numbers at the start finish line was impossible, so the bar had to be changed. Later, cars were excluded from the series and shifted into the original Arrow Wheels Series, run by Derek Atkinson of V8 Morgan fame.

When that series folded, those faster cars had nowhere to run and although it wasn't a universally popular decision, we changed the speed bar yet again, otherwise Bruce Manon's Escort, Andy Turpin's XJS Jaguar, Racing Ray Williams Turbo Porsche and others had nowhere to run at race meetings, where each race group had its own structures, unlike meetings of old where the organisers just put cars into classes they deemed appropriate.

The car has now returned to the ERC Series with Dave Mallin running it in the Arrow Wheels section of the ERC Series. The sponsorship from Arrow Wheels rolled over when Tracer and Leisuretime owners had moved on, with their sponsorship, to be replaced by AES (Auckland Engineering Supplies).

Great meeting at Teretonga 2005 but lousy weather! Very well organised meeting - especially the lack of delays between races (opening the track crossing as soon as the last car passed the flag), next grid sent out not long behind the race tail enders. Why have they never done that at Pukekohe or Hampton Downs - assuming the track is clear of course?

Teretong 2005 Re ; " next grid sent out not long behind the race tail enders. Why have they never done that at Pukekohe "
Ray they used to do that at Club Circuit meetings, real " quickfire " racing and great fun .. the Club Circuit they would let the cars finishing their use the full circuit [go through to Railway and the back straight ] to return as the next grid was near the normal circuit start finish line.
Made for good racing and more " Bang for your buck both drivers and spectators ".
Here a F-Ford F-VW and other single seaters and specials wait to go on to the Club Circuit - around 1968..

Should be at C & C Roger. Either hiding round the corner with the SUV - unless I have the Marcos on the trailer, or if I get a WoF for the still unfinished MG Magnette, maybe that.

Thanks to Milan publishing in the Programmes and Entry lists thread, some of the pile in the undated Pukekohe pile can be dated - eventually.

Working through the older slides when I can and occasionally, I'll slot in a recent scan or two. Not always the sharpest images even with the new scanner - but as I keep reminding everyone, it is a Mix of pics...

Mallory Park July 1970. Often a Eureka moment with slides as you recall even the weather conditions can put slides at the same meeting, so a previously 'undated' pic can be dated.

As Geoff Bonham's funeral is next Wednesday, I have to go down to HD to collect what was his MGB, so might leave that on the trailer and bring it to C & C on Sunday.

By the way, those going to Hampton Downs for their Gasoline & Caffeine meet need to know that the TRS (the other, lesser TRS...) meeting is on. I can highly recommend the meat pies from the external HD café - if there are any left. Might pay to get in early if you intend to eat.

Apparently I didn't get a Bathurst Legends programme either - as there wasn't one. Very disappointing. Even a one page entry list would be useful. Is this the end of race programmes? I hope not.
