As is often the case, the pilgrimage to Goodwood is more often than not, to see cars we'll never, ever see in NZ. Sure, many cars are regulars, but more than one visit is always worthwhile.

A heavily cropped pic taken from the Lavant straight looking across to St Mary's. This is where the long lens would have been useful, but bear in mind all other pics were taken either with a pocket compact or a 300mm lens.
The Bugatti here is leading the eventual second place ERA.

From here, you can see the length of fencing on the inside of the track from where my 'left to right' pics were taken, on the exit to Lavant. It was a lot of walking each day to get different vantage points, and although there was often time between races (too much time usually...) it was rather hard on the old feet and ankles to keep tracking back and forth, hence the day 1 pics, starting at Madgwick and going clockwise.
By day 3, I just stayed at Woodcote, but the crowd was about 6 deep so I clung to my position and stayed there all day until I'd had enough! The section from Woodcote, across to the start/finish line and Madgwick is the busiest part of the track for spectators and from the Chicane onwards, many bring along folding chairs and plonk them up to the fence. They then either disappear for a while - which is fine, or stand up when the race is on, so that two people standing in front of their chairs take up the space of four people!

This shows variety. I would very much like a grid to match this. Anglia, Mini, Alfa, BMW and Jag. We have them all in HSC but not always in the same space on the track.

Agree Bruce, but as we seem to be getting swamped with high powered V8s and extremely fast and highly developed Ford Escorts, I suspect that there may be a disincentive to enter the fray with slower cars. I had hoped that by having the ERC Series in two speed groups, that we'd get swamped in the slower group, but that hasn't happened. We have the variety and even the numbers, but we can't even get the variety to the track on the same day, let alone the same portion of the track!

'Humphrey' again. I sold some ERA memorabilia to the UK and added some extras which the recipient appreciated so much, he has sent me a copy of the ERA Magazine 'Hearsay'. Wow! What a production that is. Full colour on glossy high quality paper, 88 10" x 8' pages and with a stiff cover. Great info on some of the cars running today and also historical stuff. I might have to stump up for an ERA Club membership.

Duncan Ricketts let me sit in this car, the unique ERA GP1 - and what a struggle it was getting in past that enormous steering wheel and the gear selector, into a very cramped cockpit.

One of many celebrations of any Goodwood weekend is significant anniversaries, so this year, not only was it the 1958 Jack Sears Trophy race for saloon cars, but also 70 years since the Jaguar XK120 was launched. It will be interesting to see what they celebrate in 2019, as 1959 saw the Motor Show announcements of the Mini, Triumph Herald and Ford Anglia. The Mini was celebrated at Goodwood in 2009.

As it happens, an all Brit set... (yes, I call Cobras British, despite the US engines.)

Ludo Lindsay with 'Remus', one of the most raced cars of all time, in the winners parade. It was also the first race winner at the 1998 inaugural Revival meeting and even competed at the first Goodwood meeting in 1948. The car has won no less than 6 races at the Revivals. The car was raced for many years by Ludovic's father, the Hon Patrick Lindsay - usually wearing a trademark red shirt!

The car is now owned and raced by Charles McCabe who also owns the BRM P25 shown in post #2591. What a great pair of cars to own!

Oldfart is apparently having problems viewing the images - in this thread only. The site stalls. It occasionally stalls for me, too, but is anyone else having problems? Maybe I have clogged the system and need to start a new thread?

This is the last pic I took at Goodwood 2018, but not the last to be uploaded. This was 3:40pm on the Sunday and there was still a fair bit of racing going on, but I was totally bushed! Next time, if there is one, I may just do the Friday and stay to the bitter end.

    but...

"As it stands harnesses which only show FIA approval are not eligible for the UK MOT (WoF) test unless the vehicle presenter can prove (documented proof) that the standards marked on the harness meet or are equivalent to BS 3254: 1960 or BS3254:Part 1 1988.

After reviewing the FIA's documents for harness standards VOSA concluded that the British Standard was not met. More information was requested from the FIA but this was not forthcoming.

It is not yet clear what the shortcomings are without reviewing the BS documents."

The ex-Dan Gurney BRM P48, going very well too. Magnesium body built by Hall & Hall and owned by Robs Lamplough. The programme has him down as the driver but this may be Ben Mitchell.
