Kevin Hirst, I'll bet your engine downporting was more clever than TOL!

Now back in NZ with the pile of pics taken in the UK so far whittled down to just over 3,000... Still cropping and deleting before moving on to deleting duplicates. Just a few more from Goodwood to be going on with.
The lighter green of the 2 Altas was one of the stars of the Goodwood trophy, finishing in 3rd place.
I wonder which of the above may well have been taken by dad at Donington in 1939? (Posted previously) Judging by the seating position and maybe the mirrors, it looks more like the dark green one, even though the colour in the black and white pic looks as though it was light green, but the wheels are smaller - a common complaint about several of today's 1930's cars is the wheel size not being original.
Alvis Goodwin Special
This Scarab (one of two) failed in practice, so the intrepid owners shot back to Nottingham for their Cooper Bristol!
The Lancia D50 (a re-creation - although not noted as such) also failed to start the race, seen here at the end of its practice.
This Frazer Nash survived but the other Frazer Nash was another race non-starter.

Another mix...
Grimsthorpe
Gaydon. Triumph Lynx. Just one of the many prototypes at Gaydon.
Goodwood - parade of past winners - much appreciated. Lotus Bristol
MG Magnette
The somewhat short of leg Sir Jackie Stewart struggled to reach the pedals of the Eagle Weslake, given that creator Dan Gurney was a six footer. The Eagle was demonstrated the day before by Derek Bell. Bit of a waste when only one car is on the track...
Cooper Jaguar. Love the 1950's sports racing cars.

Close racing can sometimes lead to...
...a dinged E type Jaguar, one of the famous ex Dick Protheroe CUT 7's.
One for the Buckler fans
I could easily have spent a whole day in the pre 1966 car park
Another for Spgeti
NOT a Costin Lister Jaguar, a Tojeiro Jaguar

Thanks Ray, I was fortunate enough a few years ago to go for a ride around Manfeild in the 212 owned by Warren....
Something that I will never forget.
Cheers
Grimsthorpe Castle Speed Trials, August 26th. The north midland's version of the Goodwood Festival of Speed it isn't - and never will be on several counts, but an entry of 50 cars and 50 motorbikes made for some interesting vehicles, if nothing else. Sadly, the weather wasn't kind. Viewing of the actual track was distant and appeared to be just one straight plus a long right hander, with spectators penned past the finishing line anyway.
It may become an annual event but at this stage, I wouldn't exactly be promoting it as a 'must attend' unless you are in the Lincolnshire area. A $40NZ (20 pounds) entry fee was a bit steep for what it was.
The Salmson - and ... in the background a Healey, thanks Ray ..spotted !!

Pick - no, I hadn't heard of it either...
Nor had I heard of a Scat
Nor a Brasier. Brassiere, yes, but not Brasier...

So Ray,
As the Ford is LHD does that mean it was an import ?
What year is it ?
I would not want to stay out too late at night in that machine with that headlight to guide me home !
(Ken H )
Sorry Ken. No extra info, but as it is sans mudguards, I have filed it as a USA racer.
In regard the Ford, I would guess at relatively recent import. It seems that "BF" plates have been assigned as "age related" to quite a few cars of around that period. (My 23 Peugeot has one, so does the Peugeot Quadrilette further up the age.).
It stays light till after pub kick out time during the summer. It would be a great pub run car, maybe not, too much attention
Seeing as how "cars I hadn't heard of came up, how about a "Moline"?

Another I hadn't heard of Rhys - but look at the 100's of makers that have fallen by the wayside just from the UK alone, let alone from Europe and the USA and it is no wonder.
Not competing, but in the classic car park.
Another 'La France'. The NZ based car looks to be in the same sort of unmolested, unrestored condition in the same fetching shade of brown.
Those who know their UK number plates will note that the next two have Scottish registrations, so whether they are original or reissues, who knows?
Somewhat surprising to find that the printed programme (12 pages including covers) had no editorial whatever and no list of key personnel. www.speedtrials.co.nz

Last batch, at the moment, from Grimsthorpe, with organiser Richard Powell
...and the commentator. Sure is/was (much) better looking than JT...
Bye for now, from Grimsthorpe, near Bourne in Lincolnshire.
Caffeine & Classics was another huge turnout yesterday thanks to the good weather and an ever growing number of followers. Plenty of post 1990 cars still there though and as always, a few cars we hadn't seen before.
But, back to the UK... Donington Museum. As mentioned earlier, not what it was, particularly in terms of older single seaters.
Mercedes re-creation
Cosworth 4WD
Another Trojan... This is 102. You can see the remainder of that side of the hall, beyond the Trojan, leading to the Force India cars has a few more from the recent era, where I suspect many are now just on loan. In the past, one offs such as the Cosworth and Ferguson and many other low volume manufacturers were the highlights, as every car had character. I won't list all the cars that have disappeared as it just makes me more depressed that the museum is no longer the 'must visit' it once was.
Stewart
...to Jaguar R2
and R3

Ray ; Re :" Caffeine & Classics was another huge turnout yesterday thanks to the good weather and an ever growing number of followers. Plenty of post 1990 cars still there though and as always, a few cars we hadn't seen before. "
Looks like I can bring the 1991 MX5 - almost 30 years old and with the driver at 71 the total is 98 !!
John Vevers took a heap of photos and posted the BMC / BL ones on the BLENZ facebook page ;
