Not special dispensation, but they were hamstrung by having to use drum brakes on the rear, despite coming from the factory with four-wheel discs. The general consensus was that CAMS were worried they would run away from the field. They were about 100kg lighter than a Falcon Hardtop with similar power.
Graeme Lawrence walking away after the Falcon he shared with Murray Carter broke its crank on lap75.
