ERC, a great photo of the Cooper Bristol - a couple were in New Zealand in the 1950's and this one was found in Hamilton in the 1990's by my grandson aged around 10 - He is now 35. Into Cars and lately Bikes too.

The car is from the 1955 Dinky release, the tyres - period correct are from the 1990's - purchased from a Model Shop that was in Birkenhead, near ERC's place. A racing car with Nobbly tyres ..

#62 Cooper and the Capella live in the Bay of Islands. Somewhere is/was a road going Capella, somewhat E type looking that the owner of these 2 cars would like to find. Last known in the Rotorua area. Just to add to the "C" cars he also has a Connaught, and a veteran motorbike Connaught.
CJ Sapphire
Not far south from where the Capella was built another C car 'CJ Sapphire"
I love one offs, specials and short run cars! Maybe the Capella should be in this category?

Strange isn't it, that despite most competition cars going rear engined, it is the front engined cars that have the most appeal. Nice pic Milan.
The Capella seen here in a group photo at the 1984 Dunedin Street races - a Revival / Festival meeting. [posted on the Dunedin Thread]

That's Ian Garmey in his cooper at the back of the queue. I asked him if he remembered the car and got this reply
I’m sure that is the Daimler Special built by Don Ammon who lived then not far from where you are now, on the road between Kopu and Paeroa. Don moved to Nelson some years ago and I often wondered what had happened to that car. That looks like Don in the car. It will be interesting to see what else results from Ray’s appeal on the Roaring Season. Quite a nice looking car.
The event was the Auckland Domain Hillclimb held on May 1, 2005.
I have it down as May 7th 2006! Thanks for that Milan - and Ian. Great use of a Daimler grille too.
The joys of digital photography Milan! We don't have to spend hours and hours doing intense detective work - to find the date anyway.
Definitely 2006, 1:11pm. Gee, life would have been so much easier when cataloguing over 400 negative films and goodness knows how many slides. My problem with Dad's stuff, and some of my own, is that he would often peel off a length of bulk film stock in the works darkroom, load it into a cassette, which therefore meant no frame numbers or any other identification. It also meant that there may be 18 negs on the film or 40!
Dad also had a collection of about 625 cameras and wasn't averse to swapping a part used strip of film and reloading it into another camera, then back again, whilst also running another roll of film. This meant accurate dating of a lot of his stuff was near impossible.
Fortunately, when I grabbed his Leica, which I used for several years, he wasn't taking many photographs as the family had grown up.
