HRC Series Finale, two day meeting. Just the Sunday for me as the Hooters cars were only doing Sunday. Wet practice, so a good opportunity to try out the waterproof cover I'd made for the camera. It seemed to work OK but the monopod, fully extended, is a few inches too low for me.
The mixed grid provided some interesting car combinations. How often has an Austin A30, even a Speedwell one, had a Formula Junior Jocko filling its mirrors? This is now Tim's cover photograph on his Facebook page. He emerged from practice with a shredded fanbelt so VCC Scrutineer, Kevin, was busy replacing it afterwards, so that Tim could race again.

Thanks for posting the Matra Ray.
Some useless info.
It belongs to my son and we are on the final stages after a complete body off restoration. This car is a Jet 6. The French dropped the "D" in the name for these last models. It is No.139 of 222 Jet 6s made during '67 and '68. This one being a '68. An estimate of about 70 remaining.
Regards, Francois.
Thanks Francois. I might have guessed you had something to do with it! Thanks also for the info about the 'D' being dropped. I didn't know that.
Like Nigel found a couple of days ago, no pic uploading option at the moment.
The Jocko is going very well these days.

There's more than a few cars in that class that I'd be happy to pay $2K for!!! Who do we see to put our bid in?
I agree Nigel. Maybe a couple were allowed in from the BMW Enduro from Saturday, but others were genuine U2K Cup.

Nice work again Ray, Thanks for taking time time to share with us.
My pleasure Bruce. Yes, it takes time, but at least it seems to be appreciated.
Now we are effectively in the 'off season', I'm now very busy building up my 'memorabilia and books for sale' web pages, starting with pages specifically for ERA, BRM memorabilia and race programmes. Time to not just declutter, but to make sure stuff goes to a good home and not into a rubbish skip. There is a lot to list so progress is slow.
Still in the early stages, but if anyone is interested:

The problem with modern sports racing cars is that without a programme, identification is totally reliant on the programme. Never had this problem with Austin Healeys, Triumphs and MGs, not to mention the smaller manufacturers.

Love the shifter Ray from above shot, Its a between the legs shift.
I really like the originality of that car, a real time capsule.
Great shot!

A potential ball breaker Paul? I'd want a five point harness...
Back to the Hooters race - and it was a race at the front!

Caffeine and Classics end of May was not exactly blessed with good weather, so the turnout at 9:15am wasn't as high as usual. Cars continued to trickle in steadily, but nothing like the sunny summer meets. Full marks for those who did make the effort.
Hint, if you park with the nose towards the motorway, the sun is at the rear of the car so taking front three-quarter photographs is more of a challenge.

Its all very well having a low car with added on side skirts, until you have to negotiate the speed bump and one of the side skirts falls off... (The one on the other side.)
Attachment 54490
Car #58 above is the Terra FX. Similar to some of the "twin boom" record breaker cars of the 50s and 60s in that the driver sits in a pontoon on one side and the motor and transmission (Suzuki 1300 Hyabusa from memory) are in the pontoon on the other side. In this case the whole underside is a big ground effects venturi.
Little and large...

Just for a change, and before the June Caffeine & Classics meet, I fished out Dad's Merit (plastic) car kits. Unfortunately, one or two need a bit of remedial work so when I have sourced a new tube of glue, I'll put them back together and photograph them too. Thanks to Bill H, I have started bidding on EBAY on an unbuilt kit of the Talbot Lago, now under the SMER label. No doubt I'll be grabbing the Alfa too, the only ones Merit did with engine detail. Yes, spoked wheels are rubbish, but at 7/6 in old money, pretty good kits. The ones with engine detail were a little more expensive - but all were well outside my 2/- a week pocket money.

The BRM was brush painted... Remember that spray cans weren't available back then, so it was a case of Brasso on the bare plastic, or gambling on enamels that took hours to dry.
