Nice set of pics Sloper.
I wonder if "Mad Pete" could be persuaded to bring out the ex Crowe Skoda?
Rhys......work still in progress on the Skoda -problems with bellhousing , clutch, starter motor combination. Has been some time now.
I have just sold my XU1 V8 Torana to Jamie Bennenbroek, daughter of the original owner and builder. Yes, she wants to run with us, Good to see the car will be used and not sit in garage.
. Hi Everyone, message from TACCOC in relation to the Saturday October 14 meeting-
" Once we have the go-ahead, we will set the event up on the MotorsportEntry.com website, and advise all participating classes. Hopefully, this will be in the next couple of weeks, giving us at least 3 weeks to get entries in."
Probably is the same one if that one had an all alloy Sprint Car engine, its been sitting fo a while.
I have never been approached about its eligibility.
Entries for the TACCOC meeting at Hampton Downs on Saturday 14 October are now open-
-I can confirm that the on-line entries are now open for the TACCOC Spring Classic at Hampton Downs on October 14th. www.motorsportentry.com
Please ask your members to carefully select the correct racing class – Historic Sports Sedans and not the Historic Muscle Cars / Historic Saloon Cars, who are also racing at this event.
As you’ll see, the entry fee is just $295,
NB: Pit Garages should be booked in advance (by Oct 11th), as they are unlikely to be available on the day-.
Daylight savings will be with us, lets start this Summer Season , cant wait to get the team Cambridge Monaro out to run with its buddies.
There are a lot of people who will be mentally supporting your efforts to get the car out there too John.
Hi Rhys,
i know that you for one will be in the middle of the back seat.
Will take the video camera for those who cant make it.-for safety reasons, we cant fit the 37 interested people in....though it would make for a wicked celebration party, passing the drinks around to everybody, just like in the old days
Steve- i have been told it was put together for GT class, so no period history, and probably not many period parts
This race Commodore is on Trademe
https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/spe...1429555165.htm
As it was a Tranzam Lite with history, it can run with this class...with a correct period engine.
If someone is looking for a car to run with us, let me know if you are considering this or the Escort-
https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/spe...1428966901.htm
Steve- Denns Running and Kevin Lancaster put quite a few together.I have 4 on my books -Brian Friend being one, Dennis Running still has a Falcon, Danny Mckenna has one for sale- wrong engine though, Dennis R destroyed one, the list goes on. One could be coming up from SI , I am always trying to verify them.
Its all happening at Hampton Downs this Saturday October 14 TACCOC hosting.
We will have an amazing picture shoot opportunity-
All together again- Last seen together at Puke 1975 with John Riley,Robin Tanner, and George Bunce. Long time between drinks of 100 Octane.
Custom Card Camaro,
Coppins Firebird.
Team Cambridge Monaro
Zephyr Corvette Replica -also appearing
Rod Coppins had this car built to the specs his car ran in the 60s, he raced it at Ardmore with 4 wins and a second 5 weeks before he passed on.
Jim Richards drove it at the Wellington Street race.
Car was there right at the start of the retro racing in 80s , and Craig cant wait to run with the rest of us Invited Allcomers.
How long have we waited and talked seeing these cars together at the track again ???????
And now we can...........
Absolutely no excuses for missing out.
Special thanks to all involved.
Tony, Bruce ,Craig,me and the gang are really looking forward to all being on the track together this weekend.
We have our ever popular Sports Sedans having their first hit out for Summer and look at the Invited Allcomers joining them.
Weather report is favourable so we are looking forward to some fun times both on and off the track
Hi John
Is the Custom Card Camaro the car entered by Tony Antonievich?
Also is the Coppins Firebird racing as I don`t see it on the entry list?
Overall the entries are quite healthy which suggests there is much merit in these 1 day events.
Roll on Saturday.
Anthony
Where is the entry list online? Might pop down for a look.
Anthony-Tony Antonievich has entered the Custom Card Camaro and will be racing it in HSS.
One day racing is easier on peoples plans, it means there is another day to get things done in the weekend.
Also a simple test race day to get things right for MG at Manfield next month.
We are very grateful to TACCOC for continuing to support the Historics and the Sports Sedans as they did at Whenuapei last century.
We polled our drivers John, and there was quite a mix of preferences - 2 day, Saturday or Sunday 1 day. Least popular was Saturday 1 dayers as many were working, had family/sport commitments and so on.
Single day events for me were a nightmare with trying to handicap two classes and also compete.
Two day events suit those who like to relax, chat and stay overnight, but many hate hanging about with just two runs per day.
One day events, just six classes, 2 day events, maybe 12 classes. So we always tried to run a mix each season and also factor in Pukekkohe, Taupo & Hampton Downs, to make the series worthwhile.
Ray- I was asked to poll every driver...my time has no value as we all know...for all possible events for the coming summer.
This Saturday meeting rated well, for the reasons above----MG next month.
The TACCOC day on Sunday early December had 4 people- not enough for a class...but if the car is a Schedule K with Historic Sports Sedan stickers in the correct place- top of drivers door- then Dale will allow them if his grid allows.
Andrew- will be great photo session for the cars- 3 Coppins race cars together plus Custom Card Camaro-just like 1975. Invited other cars from that period as well. but.......
They will be close to garage 27.
I will work out tomorrow where this photo opportunity wont be in the way of the event.
You wont miss these cars.
And that is what this Saturday and Historics are all about - Old guys in old cars having fun' type action.
We dont do racing such as was seen at Bathurst last weekend.
The Team Cambridge Monaro will be out on the track and it may look like racing.......alternative is sitting on display.
I sure as hell dont want this car ending up in the wall from a racing incident like my XA Coupe.
These cars are priceless to us
The racing is not so important...seeing these cars out there is what counts. They have the Heritage Hot Lap sessions at Muscle Car Masters and we could seriously adopt that concept here. The cars might be travelling at 70 - 80% of their potential but everyone gets to enjoy the spectacle and memories are made...or relived in some instances. Happy days!
Anthony Sampson
Manfeild- please remember that all entries must be submitted and paid for in full by the 20 th October.
Yes , only 5 days to go.
Late entries may be accepted, extra $40 though, this is a Cancer Trust donation, not for club coffers.
Also the garaging there- this from Bruce
*We are without cancellation full, but there is space in the middle on the grit.*
Owing to increase interest we are exploring accommodating more cars, will know more tomorrow.

Looks like its going to be a great pack with the Breadvan as absolutely hot favourite
Michael Johnstons 2 dr Avenger is currently having the gearbox done, he is wanting to bring it up.
Looking at the grid takes me back to what Habu said way, way back 22 April 2013- 4 years ago-
"The whole ethos of this class is to get these fantastic cars out there, and circulating for the enjoyment of ownership firstly, and for the enjoyment of spectators as well!
To be honest, as a spectator I cant tell 100% accuracy compared to when a car ran back in its heyday..... As long as the vehicle is a reasonably close representation of how it ran all those years ago will be enough for me to want to go and watch."
I hope he and all car lovers enjoy next month at Manfield
Its a tricky one, however If we were to eliminate every car that was not period correct, we are left with an Orange Monaro, and a Blue Charger. and thats no good for any body. So common sense means we need to make compromises. This allows us to present a good grid , people get to run their cars, and everybody is generally happy.
