Good One Bry.
I was talking to one of the boys from Invercargill over the weekend about that car but still never put it together.
Jamie
OK. Who is this, in what, where is fairly easy. year if are really good
Bit of a character this lad in days of past.
The only good thing to come out of Rotovegas was our own Jamie but this is not him.
There has been other good things El and even Jamie will back that, especially the latest bit of beauty and the beast, but more on that later on another thread.
Yep car was built in Rotorua, using numerous parts bought back from trip to States for season of Trans Am fun by some local lads.
Hint the person in seat is not from Rotorua/Taupo, in fact along way from home.
If it was an open face helmet would we see a generous size soup strainer adorning the drivers upper lip?
No John, but he had got into car they would not have got him out.
Pretty well known motorsport personality/driver, he had driven a Camaro before but little different to this one. (now that's shortened it down)
Brett Willis' Camaro Trans Am (built by his father Lindsay?).
That's the car Bigbanger, now who is the chap in it. Roger don't get to hooked on the helmet, he raced/bullied us sometimes in another car. (V8)
Maybe more to point how did he get in it.
May be John osborne
You got him Roger.
Test day for the Willis team with nice new car that Lindsey and Brett have built from parts bought back from the trip to race in Trans Am in States and Ralph Mossman and his RX7/8
Mr Osborne turns up, now this is Taupo which is in the middle of the North Island and he resides in Christchurch which is in the middle of the South Island, and at the moment we have sorry arse people out there worried about being spied on.
Any way, this is not long after Oz has had his accident at Puke and won't drive a race car again. Well one invitation from Mr Willis and the photos tell the story.
Turns up and has a look
Don't ask him twice, look at the smile as he powers into the seat, the foot is still sore but the hip appears to be good. Lindsey Willis and a youthful Ralph watch on.
Then once in "now what do I do in this thing" then on comes that familiar Oz race face.
In and ready for a re-initiation to a race car.
Brett went down South with this car and won the OSCA championship. Car is still there apparently.
Lovely story.
The yellow car behind then is the current John Telford RX7/8 - Fuchs Oil,?
He is entered next weekend in HSS at Icebreaker.
Yes John that's the car and I have a great story about it written by Ralph that he sent to John Telford after he bought it with the history of car, parts, and build etc. I will try and get loaded as think it will be good read.
OK, here is another from some ones collection of magazines/scrapbook.
Who Where and When would be good
Any other clues would also be good Rod .....
North Island and they would be pine trees in back ground back then
Went on to race a Escort ( fairly quick also)
Has son who races now (actually for along time)
What about Don Halliday, Baypark 1968?
Come on, think.
Ok his son also raced touring cars, NZV8, and is well known for his exploits in Porche,, now that gives it away.
Yeah Rod, like pulling teeth- Stan Baird-L&P Escort-, Craig Baird.
Rod, Read post #581

I think the speaker in the bottom picture is a "Yeomans" one.....
Timaru
Don't know the cars but the old Valiant looks a bit unhappy.
Top pic is Mike Fitzgibbon Falcon in Pre-65s at Timaru, raced 84-86, according to a writeup in the August 2009 Pre-65 newsletter. His son Peter races a Pre-65 Farina A40 today, according to a post on the Pre65SI Facebook page.
gokiwi, you crack me up.LOL For the sake of the North Islanders. Dave Yeoman used to supply the sound systems to Ruapuna and Timaru race tracks and to the Ruapuna drags. He was about 95 not out, 5' 2" and 40 kilograms. Hunched over with this big shock of white hair. His vehicle was a 40's Chevvy panel van with the California bleached look paint, invariably with a couple of speakers stored on the top. I know the hot rodders used to give him a hard time about the van. rumour has it that he used to sleep in the back whenever he had his systems set up. A real icon from the late 70's, early 80's:
I found this beauty waiting to take on the HoraHora hillclimb near Lake Karapiro. 1969.

( Ken Hyndman )
That'd be the Mk 111 of Stan Baird, he used to race that before his Escort.
Can anyone please identify this for me?

Buckler? Not a "Mistral"-they had 2 distinctive vents on the side of each front guard.
