Brilliant photo Ken!
Fantastic photo here by Steve Twist, from Pukekohe during the 1968 New Zealand racing season, and the first under Group 5 rules. This was the year the PDL Racing Team was formed, with Robert Stewart and Clyde Collins running a pair of PDL Minis.
Stewart ran the 1001cc-1300cc class, while Collins was in the 0-1000cc class. Stewart finished second in his class in the championship, behind Angus Hyslop, who I think is pictured here in the green Cooper S sat right up Stewarts tail pipe.

Does anyone have a photograph of the ex-works 4WD Mini that still resides in NZ? I know who owns it, but I have never seen a pic of it. I might have to lean on him to see if I can see the car some time...
ERC, would be great to see, They ran one in the Targa Florio, back in the 60's and John B from SPR models had a 1;43 in the range which I missed getting hold of.
Have found a few more pics of Mini's racing this time at Dunedin Revival Street Races in 1984 ; must get them scanned and posted
Have found my own photos of these two incidents The Minisprint after the accident,NZ Grand Prix meeting January 1968

neither a Mini nor an Imp but as Spgeti said, " sure these things had Mini or Imp parts ..." somewhere, wiper blades perhaps ?
Probably the drive shaft judging from the way it broke at the Drags at Wiri
How to repair a Mini exhaust system when you are in a hurry !
The Austin Cooper 1275 S, of Paddy Hopkirk and co-driver Ron Crellin, being worked on during the 1967 Acropolis Rally in Greece.
Paddy did not need to worry as they went on to win this event. Even though the engine had worn out bearings, it just made it to the finish line in first place. Perhaps this repair work drained the oil away and when the engine was restarted the bearings were damaged.(Ok I am rambling )

The Heatway Hyslop/Langley Clubman is in Hawkes Bay-it was on display at the end of the Targa in Havelock North last Friday.
There was a rumour years ago that the 4WD Moke was on Stewart Island.
As far as I am aware, no, not an Ant or a Moke, but a 4WD Mini saloon.

Car looks great ..
Alan Boyle and Ron Brown, great Mates and Team Mates both ran Mini's in the 1960's
Alan recently posted this on his facebook page. In the scrutineering queue behind the Lycoming, the cars all drove down from Auckland then raced- the way NZ motor racing was ..

Time this thread " CAME TO THE FRONT PAGE AGAIN "
Hey Roger,
Is it just me here in California but does your TRS link keep shutting off all the time ?
Cheers

Alan Boyle posted this photo on BLENZ Facebook page - a page dedicated to BMC / BL vehicles,it is worth a look.
Alan wrote " 1967-68 NZ Motor racing season..

Alan's first Mini an " 850 " suitably modified became "Tomato " which he raced 1965 - 67,he later had one that was purple at some stage, could be this car.

Alan's Car at the NZIGP 1968 - probably when " purple " - or it could be " Tomato " with the Chromed wide wheels -you can tell of course from the photo - mine.
Crate of Coca Cola products beside the car, Alan was signwriter by trade, and had great paintwork and signage on his cars,he worked for Coca Cola around this time in this trade.

Have a few more Mini pics - must make sure I haven't posted them already on this thread - apologies if I do.
Many have been seen on other threads " Motor racing my early years Pukekohe " Dunedin Festival " and others.
Having had at least one Mini in the household, every single day since February 1967, thought I'd post a picture of my very first. My very first car too, at the age of 21 (couldn't afford a car before then!).
Note the contrast roof colour. I think I paid fifteen quid for a 'Stirling Moss approved' contrast roof paint. If it was fifteen quid, it was just over a week's wages, so maybe it was a fiver!
Attachment 50856
This 850cc sported twin carbs and probably a nicely built engine, as it certainly went well. Pic taken probably the day I bought it - so it might have been late 1967. Must check my diary...

Cool car, did it drop its guts that year...if so I wasn't far behind it at the bottom of the hill, nice and slippery in my Mk1 Escort..any other photos of the day anywhere?
Would that be Don Whites Aussie Clubman GT -a real historic racer- next to the Orange De Joux
Thanks Nigel. I remember racing in 91-94 and Dons Mini was always there. Man this car is a time warp, it hasnt changed at all. And I had an orange DeJoux back in 1975...no wing Reg FG 8393, indicators front of front guards, 1100 motor, twin fillers at the back- could this be the same car?
Roger...see #155 for my DeJoux in 1975 as a comparison Sold it for $2500 to get a brand new house in Pakuranga-no. not Nappy Valley- for $25,000-no garage, no driveway , no letterbox,Mr Stripes carpet for $5 per metre from Joes Bargain House in Ponsonby- you would remember that place.
Would be great to see you and Donn again.
Still have the pix of the Packard to show you as discussed 6 (? ) years ago
Sorry just gossip, but John, I remember Joes Bargin House in Ponsonby Road. It was an old picture theatre...
Yes I sold my 64 MGB Roadster to buy my first home in Massey. No letterbox, no fences, no driveway, no carpet but it had a basement garage and no concrete floor all for $22000....a Harmony Home ....wasn’t..
Bruce- yes, a new house is just that. What you do there makes it a home. Mine was a Neil House. Wife hated the new house in Pakuranga, wanted a cottage in Henderson. So I bought her a cottage on Waiheke...all this before I was 25. Bought and sold 5 Minis, you could make money on them then ( this is a Mini thread). I even put a fibreglass clubman front on a frontal damage 1965 850 MK1.
Try doing all of that now.
My Mini racing friend- Alex Isbey- not with us for many years now- said I should have bought in Ponsonby, but banks wouldnt loan on old villas to youngsters not earning much.
Gossip is good, I can do this
Yes John, I sold my 64 Morris Mini, DZ3774, Surf Blue and White roof for the B, I was 19.....and 22 when I bought in Massey and was I who hated the house .....should of bought in Ponsonby. Lived at 90 Jervois Rd....great days.
Next Mini was an Aussie Clubman GT....went like stink...next Mini was a 77 1000....then came the Elf’s x 2.....
