I can't help with the whereabouts of Howard Harris or John Stone but I do have a complete set of Wide Wheels.

The first edition was dated May 1969 and ran through to April 1972 when it changed its name to Driver - not to be confused with Allan Dick's New Zealand Driver magazine.

The 35th and last edition came out in October 1972.

The magazine was not published in June & December 1969 and January, April, July, September and October 1970.

I have a couple of those too. Would need to check but I think mine are towards the end of its life as Wide Wheels.

John, I've got December 1970, and January, February, March 1972 of Wide Wheels, and also have a July 1972 of Driver, but nothing in any of the Monaro. Might get a mention in one of the race reviews, but no photos sorry.

Steve- thanks so much for doing this research for me
Hi John. Just checked my archive of Wide Wheels mags as I was certain there was a photo of Johnny Riley driving the Black, Thompson Monaro. There is a photo on page 27 of the April edition, which was the transition Wide Wheels/Driver issue. It isn't a great pic, but it shows the whole car with Riley driving it in practice. It has number 222 on the doors and Spear Racing preps signwriting on the front panel. Riley didn't race it as it was under prepared. I could scan a copy of it to your e-mail address if you like.

He was entered in the Monaro at the 12th March 1972 Pukekohe meeting.

You're a legend Milan! The March 12 meeting was Round 8 of the 1972 NZ Saloon Car Championship. I think Riley also tried out the Monaro at Bay Park but again decided the Mustang was the better option.

Milan Fistonic

Riley was entered in the Mustang that meeting.

Interesting the difference in prize money to that on offer at Pukekohe.

What was the date of the Bay Park event Milan?

Milan Fistonic
11-23-2012, 10:05 PM
Steve: February 27 1972

John: As well as Richards and Brocklehurst, Patrick Smith and Bruce Anderson were entered in GTHOs.

Torana XU1s were entered by Alan Carter, Merv Neil, Richard Young, Neville Brickley, Jim Palmer and Roy Harrington.

Charlie Conway and Bill David had Monaros while Rod Coppins and Jack Nazer drove Chargers.

Two smaller cars were Tim Bailey's Porsche 911T and Peter Lewis's Alfa Romeo GTV.

Now that is something we never did coming home from Bay Park, how naughty of them.

John "Twitch" is in shed not far from here.

Rod, were you, like me driving a Ford 10. I used to have to stop to pick up my doors as these cars would go past so fast the doors would get sucked right off.. also... who is, what is "Twitch"?

That was the name on the rear spoiler of Patrick Smiths HO

Have you seen this from the 1991 Nissan Mobil programme?

Thanks Milan, hey I remember reading that when I was at the event. The Falcon GT Grady trailered in to race had apparently never been road registered, according to the commentators at that event. Not sure how true that was. That 69 Camaro he said he was building never did surface!

Steve Holmes
11-28-2012, 03:06 AM
Sorry John, I don't recall much at all about it. Can't even remember the colour! I'm sure you're right though, there will be more to it.

Interesting to see that. Red had already built up a good points tally at this early stage. But once Rod got to steer the Camaro, and started notching up the points, Red began having quite a few dnf's as he ramped up the horsepower in the Mustang to stay ahead.

....Lee, Tim Slako is a real Kiwi pioneer in motorsport, lives and runs a very succesful 'tune Shop' in Perth, is the Australian distributor of 'Red Line Oil' products, Tim is one of those people in motorsport that you can't help admiring,he has that ,'I'll give it a go', approach, topped up with a 'ton' of talent, I recently rang Tim,first time in a lot of years,as I had a couple of young friends, from overseas,on a road tour of OZ, stuck in Perth, transport had died,Tim in his usually friendly, leave it to me approach, had them in a 'realiable' 4x4 and on thier way....thier parents in Germany are ever so gratefull to Tim for his Honesty and Integrity.....Tim's a Good Guy!!!.....But ,then he is a Kiwi!!!:).........................thunder427/MJ:cool:

Milan, I have another request on a program. At the Bay Park International, Tasman Formula race 28 December 1969 -Motorman February 1970- in the saloon cars, Spencer Blacks Holden Monaro was mentioned , the motor blew again. After this meeting he sold the car to Grady Thomson. Do you have the page showing the 0-5500 Saloon car class with this entry, car number and driver? If so, can you post it please .Does anybody have any pics of this at all?

Feel free to add to the Coppins thread John, I have more to scan as time permits, but it may be a day or two. How's the 'Smurf' ?

Milan-once again you have found gold. Great details here.
Interesting that this information on Coppins is here and not on the official Coppins thread.

Great progress John, but are you allowed to play on Christmas day ? Of course the promise of a drive and some black lines up the drive should be approved.
Bruce.

Bruce-Please take this info across, it has interest as he has different numbers and gives more history of his transition to the Camaro. He didnt just buy it and race it.He bought it on the eve of the Mercury 1000 series, after guest appearances in it for several meetings.
It is amazing going through these old programs when you know what to look for. Just look at what we have foungd just on this thread.
Just come back from seeing Barry Algie and told him that I saw him in the program for racing at Puke 7 Dec 1969.He had forgotten he was there. The car was supposed to be green, but he said it was blue-told him that was the info he gave, not what was reported.
XA Smurff comes back tomorrow at lunchtime.Motor /box is all ready and waiting. May be driving it Xmas day. My plan of all brakes, front end, rear end has come together. Pass seat, fire extinguisher-2 clips- and seat belts all in.

Looking at the period photos there were a lot of cars poorly set up. Nose high in particular. Further development saw the Monaro become a reasonable handler. Rod had the Camaro behaving to his liking, with regular tail out cornering, and the Monaro isn't that much different in basic design.

Indeed send the pics through, I'll gladly post them on the HMC thread. I know the IDA's are not for the Smurff but it could do with some too right ?

Santa may leave a moon manifold with 48IDA set up in my stocking.Rest assured Xmas day will still give me 4 plus hours to work on Smurff- will do interior quarter, door panels and rear parcel tray. Should be a good days smurffing. If I flick you some smurffs tomorrow , would you like to post them?

Tim Slako raced an E38 in the 72 season of the WA Production Series along with another fellow Kiwi, Jim Mullins.

Milan-hi, I am back again with another request on a program if you can help me again please. Once again the year is 1969 the meeting is Pukekohe. I dont know the exact date , except that it was November, and was the NZ Saloon Car Championships. The Team Cambridge Camaro was entered and to be driven by Jim Palmer.Only practiced Friday-never raced. The Team Cambridge Monaro for Rod Coppins was not ready .
Do you have the entry in the program for 0-5500 race, if so can you post it please?
.Riley pulled out during racing.First meeting for Fahey in new Escort, and Barry Phillips first run in his Cooper.

Sorry I can't help with an entry list but I can tell you that the meeting you refer to was the 1969 Benson & Hedges held on the 1st of November.
In Allan Dick's report he has this to say about the Team Cambridge cars.

Spinner Black's cars weren't ready. The Camaro for Palmer was in serious braking trouble in the practice on Friday and non-started. The Monaro for Coppins never arrived at all.

Then in a reply to a reader's question about Black, Allan states:
The Camaro, which incidentally is a new car and not the one raced by Black last season, did several laps on the Friday before the B & H meeting, but it appeared to be in dire braking trouble. Jim Palmer drove the car.

This what was written about the two cars in Autonews.

Spencer Black had entered both the Monaro and the Camaro. Originally Spencer was to drive the Chevvy with Rod Coppins having a drive in the Holden. In fact this is the way that they practised the cars - at first. However during the second session Coppins took over the Chev while Black took out the Holden. Accelerating out of Harmans Corner the motor went bang, the rear wheels locked up solid and the Monaro-well-she was all over. Bad news inside the sump. So Rod was given the Chev Camaro for race day while the Monaro was taken home.

For J42E38-Tim Slako was racing that day and came 6th in his Mini Cooper S.

What day / meet was that? I was more referring to the whole 72 season for the Production Touring Cars, which both Mullins and Slako campaigned in E38's for most if not all the races. Both chargers had kiwi logos on the guards to let those locals know their roots........

Milan- thanks for this extra info. In the Motorman mag, I wondered why there was only 2 races, that explains where there rest of the days racing went. Man ,these two 327s had some issues at the beginning of the season.
Jim Palmer was quite a successful peddler in his HK 327 and HT350 Monaro in the Production races, interesting to consider how he would have gone in the Camaro .
Hope he will be at Hampton Downs so I can talk to him-does anyone know?
As with previous request I am looking for the entered race numbers from this program for 0-5500cc.
Does anyone have a program from this Benson and Hedges 1969 race meeting and can help me here please.
For J42E38-Tim Slako was racing that day and came 6th in his Mini Cooper S.
That is a very interesting post script that the Team Cambridge Camaro was not the Team Lexington Camaro. This is glossed over when this car is discussed.
Does anyone out there have anymore details on this ?. Also what ever happened to the earlier car?
Looking at all the racing pix from 68-69 , there was no number plate .

I have a B & H 1969 Programme :
There were 4 races on the day -
1. National Touring Car Championship 1001 - 4200 cc 10 Laps
2. National Touring Cars 0 - 1000 cc 10 Laps
3. NZ Saloon Car Championship Race 0 - 5500 cc 12 Laps
4. B & H 500

I can scan the entry lists for you and post them up tomorrow. I may also be able to decipher some of my 43-years-ago notes on the programme. May even have done lap charts for races 1-2-3

This is from Autonews Vol 3 No 14 in the Teretonga report.

Thompson has bought the [Monaro] from Spinner Black. He bought it minus motor and installed the 350 mill from his brand-new road-going GTS350, shoved in a cam, added a set of side draught Webers(!) and has gone motor racing. "There's a lot of work to be done before I do any winning."

Milan Fistonic
12-28-2012, 06:24 PM
Milan-can you tell me what number Autonews that was in. I have vol 3, number 11.
In this the Monaro was for sale and gave its lap times for practice at this meeting-
Apparently at this practice session, Coppins in the Monaro was lapping in 65.8 .
The Camaro was lapping 65.7, so there was not much between the 2.
Fahey was doing 67.2, Dawson 64.4,Riley 65.3
$8000 could buy this Monaro complete ready to go with new four wheel trailer.
Had 48 IDA Webers with Moon manifold, now have found this to go with the car.

It came from Vol 3 No 12 though the actual magazine has Vol 2 No 12 on the cover.

here is program for this race

Here is my page of same programme with grid noted on top right corner of page, Riley on pole. Not sure who was supposed to be on row 2 with Rodger Anderson or on row 5 beside Brocklehurst, but clearly they non-started.
Dawson used '35' race number not 135 as in programme. Not worth repainting both doors I guess!

Milan-back with new request on this Monaro quest. I have had a very kind gentleman supply to me a pic of the Monaro at the Port Road Drags , Wellington about 1970. Got the best time of 10.07 seconds.
This was 3/16 of a mile standing start .Was running 58 DCOE Webers with McKay cross over manifold, and very F5000 exhaust type system .That is fast!!! Anyway they were experimenting with a down draught set up as well. This was featured in an early 1970 Wide Wheels mag.
Would you have this mag, as if there are pics I would love the get a really good copy of it-some of these pix can be grainy.

I can't find anything about the Drag meeting but the May Ruapuna Mercury Series report has this photo of the Monaro carbs.

14814

In the report it mentions that the Monaro had been repaired after the Levin shunt. Thomspon finished second to Fahey in the second preliminary race and retired from the main race after the gear lever broke. He tried to carry on changing gear with what was left of the lever but eventually the gearbox stuck in second and he was out.

The shunt happened at the mid-April Levin meeting where "most saloon events except the championship races were supposedly for all-comers, but the only significant addition to the fields was the Monaro of Grady Thompson, which apart from its un-necessarily gutted interior, and over 5.5-litre engine, would have qualified for the championship events in any case."

In practice Fahey did a 54.0 sec; Coppins a 54.2 sec; Nazer 54.8; Riley 56.0 and Thompson also 56.0. Thompson finished third in the Levin Saloon Car Championship race behind Fahey and Coppins.

"In race 9 Grady Thompson had the Monaro going extremely well, but it looked very twitchy, and eventually he lost it at Beach Bend, and caught it again, only to hit the bank at Rothmans, doing considerable damage to the car. This was said to have been caused by a blown tyre."

Then at Ruapuna "the next day."

"After stuffing his hot Monaro into the bank at Levin, Wellington driver Grady Thompson won the main race at Ruapuna the next day in the similarly painted production Monaro that he usually uses as a tow car."

From here there is a gap until it was bought from a man called Wade in Pt Chev.
The next part will have a different narrator.
So, it was sometime in '78, I had an HT 350 Monaro, my buddy Quentin bought this rough grey ex race car. as pictured. it has a 307, "with a cam" a Muncie 4 speed, and I don't know what it had for a rear axle. The seller said it had just had a Camaro front end put in it, but that may be just spindles and backing plates to allow for the better brakes, and the brakes were very very good. It handled well to, not the norm for any early Monaro. The car came with a nice rear spoiler, not fitted, but it was orange and had George Bunce's name on it. The car was used for 3 up cruising around town, I thought it was a tough looking car. Some time not a lot later, it had some fiberglass rear flares to cover the big rear tyres, painted and flicked on to the next owner. The story I heard later was that it had hit a pole, side on and hard. I'm told it was written off, but it was repaired, and ultimately it lives again.

I have a question on Schedule K if someone authoritive - Crunch, Racing Rodger etc- can answer it-
I have chosen to have my HK Monaro as Team Cambridge when Grady Thomson had it in early 1970.
There is one feature I am unsure about-the fuel filler.

You have answered your own question John, the filler cap should be as per the "chosen timeline" you mention above!! That is what Schedule K is about!!!

Panel hammers out tomorrow by the sound!!

Steve Holmes
04-21-2013, 11:05 PM
Sheesh, thats a tough one! The car in Cambridge colours had the fuel filler in the standard location, but as you've rightly said John, its relocation is the one thing that saved it from certain death, as thats how it was identified as being this car! Almost seems wrong to undo that.

Spgeti
04-21-2013, 11:37 PM
Thats a real difficult one and something that might have to be discussed further with the powers to be. Shame to take it away as Steve commented you may have never found the car without it. Tough choice John.

something like, but not necessarily " Rorison Racing" The 10/67 sure would link with a date.

Bruce302

I can't think of any Rorison cars that used then relinquished that size wheel, but it is possible they were already used if they are '67 made. One of the original owners may be able to shed some light.

Grant- How many volumes are there in the Sprague Family car racing album. Are there any showing Gary and Grady battling during this Mercury Series?
I read that , I think it was Timaru, the two were running close till Gary retired with overheating? John I have not seen any pics of the two of them , next time I talk to big brother I will ask him , do you know what Gary was driving ?? I guess was the twin Cam , in that era , It is strange I talked to Gary even Kerrie Grant about the history & photos here , seems to fall on deaf ears as if hey been there done that, some people I guess don't revisit the past and its their choice I loved all my motor sports as time moves on time becomes more valuable when you [me] have a young family but not to say we shouldn't experience that divine spark of excitement etc [I remember Gary being a house hold name ], he did not see it that way very humble brother I was blessed with two really cool brothers in fact the whole family ...got off the track a bit but while Im talking thought I would give a bit of insite....raining hard here in Tauranga about to deliver a car to Rotorua ... talk soon John thanks ..Grant

Oh yes , Pete Kocis , yep the Anglia looked good in orange , after Gary got the twin cam Dad decided he had enough of it & sold it to Peter Kocis, my other brother Wayne did not show a lot of interest & I was too young , although Wayne [other brother]had a crack at driving the HO at wigram only to find out it had a rear brake problem locking up & lost it at Bombay backwards into 44 gallon drums of water , he would have been 18yrs old , a big ask for a boy with no experience . As for school went to west school & tech I did end up sharing head prefect duties , but did not like school lol . John , I ended up doing a bit of motor racing you can check my profile its no biggy , but must add photos got some goodies........ Grant

I've only been here 8 yrs!
Yep - I've seen it in it's original configuration. Like a generation (or 3) of youths, I didn't miss a meet at Pukekohe, national or club, once I got my license (after the traditional 1 week wait after 15th birthday), from 1964 to about 1969 when I buggered off overseas for a bit, then back in the 1970 season, then back again for the 1972-76 seasons, when marriage and motorbikes had taken over proceedings. The group I hung around with were loosely associated with Roy Harrington for a while - one of them raced an Imp, so.....
hence in later years as the body doesn't take as well to riding bikes, the nostalgic leaning back towards the cars and enjoyment of youth! It's just great that people like you are still finding the old girls and rebuilding them - I have enough trouble getting motivated to rebuild the old bikes in the shed!

SPman- looking at your location in WA , I feel honoured by your interest. Have you ever seen this car in your past?
Still trying to get the Monaro stuff back, the seller put up the 8 chromes on trade me- 2tops of doors, 2 top rear quarter, 2 rear drip rails,2 front drip rails and the 2 long Bailey rubber chromes. Went for $1000, blew past my budget. This amount will buy me the new 327 crank. It is easier building an American car, you can buy the stuff and its cheap
John have you seen the rust bucket Monaro for sale up here in the Bay of Islands on TM, anything worthwhile?

John, back in the late `80s I had a HZ 308 4spd Sandman panelvan, that I got off a guy that had bought it over from Aussie as he was working on a big pipeline project in Taranaki. Ironically, his name was Neil Armstrong, and no, unlike his namesake, the panelvan hadn`t been to the moon and back. I think from memory it did about a 15.8 quarter mile at a Meremere street meet and was a great tow vehicle. Would you like some photos of Norm Beecheys Monaro when we go to the Bowdens after Lakeside as a reference for your Monaro restoration?

Also a Kawasaki H1A in the back there.............In 1970, we lived in View Road, Mt Eden. One of the lads had a 500 Kwaka and, of a saturday night, we'd all take turns to run down View Rd and try to get to 100 mph and slowed before we hit Dominion road and went through the front of the local takeaway......ahhh the joys of youth! The Ranchwagon - just a good old trusty Ford. From my days as a flaggie at Puke the trailer definitely looks like the fire tender. The large white sphere is a pressureised dry powder tank and the circular apparatus at the rear is the hose reel.

This arrangement was superceded with either an International or Dodge pickup cab and chassis. I also brought out one of the fire trucks when with the NZ Fire Service at Papatoetoe. Usually at the hairpin. Took a bit of convincing the CFO but we got there. The TK Bedford was a handful negotiating Railway corner and the hairpin at speed (50kph) particularly with 300 gallons of water sloshing around in the on-board tank.

That`s right Bruce, as I mentioned in a previous post, Warren Black, Spinners brother organised a lot of the various cigarette advertising, and prior to buying this car off Spinner, Rod basically leased it on a meeting to meeting basis, so he probably sat out a meeting and that's how Terry Scott got to drive it. For those that don`t know, Terry Scott is Kayne Scotts dad, and is also Spinners and Warrens brother in law having married their sister.

I was talking with my good friend, Dave Bull, a couple of days back and during the course of conversation Dave mentioned running against Grady in the Monaro at the Port Road sprint meeting. Dave was driving the ex.Red Dawson Mustang and John is hopefull that someone who was there might have photographs or recall details of the Monaro. Incidentally, Dave and Grady knew each other well as both were Karori boys.

Some more Monaro trivia for you, John.

On February the 21st 1970, the Wellington Car Club ran their first race meeting at the Levin circuit under Clerk of the Course, Ian Pinkerton......now resident of Papamoa, just down from the nudist beach???. Anyway, Grady managed to set fastest time of the day at 58seconds and I'm almost certain this was his first outing in the car. TRS member, Perry Holland managed second fastest time in the Lancer sports. By April the Monaro had been repainted bronze and Grady set FTD at Houghton Bay hillclimb. Remarkable really as the weather was shocking and Grady's time was only set after he put three bags of cement in the boot.

I have just come across a great photo of the car at Teretonga 1970 in front of Brian Crosbie, Peter Kocis and Austin Prattley. Autonews Volume 3 number 14. I don't have a scanner, and don't want to let the mag go, but any suggestions for you to have this great one.
It must have been very early in Grady's ownership as the report says "Thomson has bought the car from Spinner Black. He bought it minus motor and installed the 350 mill from his brand new GTS350, shoved in a cam and side draught Webers (!) and has gone motor racing. "There's a lot of work to be done before I do any winning" "

Yes, heh heh , its a good ad Rhys. How quickly did the car go with this wording?
Yeah, Dick had this policy that if you could make him laugh, he would print for free.
It did not sell from the ad, I sold/traded /got robbed by a dealer in Ferry Rd ChCh on a deal for a Buckler, ex John Money. The Husky really did do those figures, but disappeared very soon after. It was huge fun, real "sheep in..."

If you were looking for a shaggin waggin in the 70s, they were a good alternative to an Anglia van.
At Motor Specs, Nugent St, in the early 70s , we had a head with twin sidedraughts for a Hillman .
A guy came in an put it on a Husky- was it you?

No, the car was in the Mainland by 1970. Most of the mechanicals were from the engine dyno at Hamlin and Charles. Bored out block, Zephyr pistons, big valves, electic fan, oil cooler, all the goodies.

And yours was different to Bryan Bells -Haulin Husky and the Millens- Cob?
Any form with it on the track or hill climbs Rhys?

No, not in my ownership, I am a slow driver! Rob McIntosh who I bought it off in Putaruru was very successful, grass track, hillclimbs etc. It was the roundy shape one before the shape of the Millens. Shaggin wagon, hell in this one you would need to be about 4'6" in the back, then again on a pleasant evening the back door open didn't matter!

Thanks Bruce- Ok, one more at the first Terry Allen meeting 1970 .
This pic was in the Motorman Mag, but the clarity here is superb as Jack Inwoods pix usually are.. Once again , check out the crowds-we were all there to see these thundering V8s.
Once again pic thanks to the foresight of the Bruce McLaren Trust ( Copyright pic) I have been able to get a LOT of pix.
I can definitely recommend them as being user friendly and helpull.
Each pic is $25, and I got about 16 and each one is being posted here so everyone can see and enjoy this car -and others- in action.

Nice work there John :D Nice to see some more progress photos. I am enjoying the historical stuff, but the resto photos are whats keeping me following this. Love the earlier photos of the car in Cambridge colours - Im not really a GM guy, but the proportions of that car are just right, and noise that SB Chev will make with those Webers will just be the icing on the cake

Doesn't matter if its down-draughts or side-draughts, this car raced with both, so either option is correct. Pure porn either way! Do you have to cut a hole in the bonnet for the carbs?

John, When I was a commitee member of the ESCC back in the 70's we had a guy by the name of Dave or David Sharp who was a traveller for Cambridge etc cigarettes, had the HR/HD Holden wagon in cambridge colours as company vehicle ( often see it parked beside tent in some of Ian Peaks pics here ), dont know if he is still around but I do remember him owning/driving one of the early Graeme Lawrence single seaters at early classic events @ Q/town & Ruapuna ( also in Cambridge colours ), someone here might also know him, bet he would still have some memorabilia from that career.

John, firstly google `Cambridge Cigarettes Logo' to see the different layouts. Click on the relevant picture to make them bigger. As a bum fluffed 16 year old apprentice, I can recall the dark blue being `Zenith Blue' and the light blue being either `High' or `Sky' blue on the Dulux super enamel brush paint charts, so if you can find some old Dulux paint charts you`ll be able to colour match them in Automotive paint.
Just wondering if any one out there would happen to have one of the Team Cambridge decals from this period , they were stick on and were available at the tracks.
I want to confirm the colours.

I can be of some help. I have a decal with no fading though whether this would be accurate enough to pick paint I don't know. I may have more info to come, if you want to PM me your email I'll be in touch. Incidentally I'm not sure if you've noticed but the stripes over the cars on the Saloons were offset ie. not centred. I always thought it was a mistake on just one of them but they all appear to be like it. Looks wrong to my eye because it's only slightly off but I guess if you want to be historically correct you wouldn't change it.

By the way John I remember your Monaro was owned by a guy I know. his name was Quentin Fletcher and he had a butchers shop in Sandringham. He eventually went with a few of my other friends to the US and they all lived in Riverside. He returned about 3 or 4 years ago and apparently lives somewhere in Hamilton. Also just before I bought the siddy I had decided to build my own Sports sedan, so I bought an XW falcon GT 351 4 speed for $3400.00 that had been hit in the rear, repaired it changed it to an XY and repainted it (track red) and fitted aluminum cologne type flares that were bolt on, just in case I needed to convert it back. The rears were some 15 x 15 Mawers with M&H slicks that I bought off Nick Lefting at Greenlane Speedshop for $350 and the fronts were 2 15 x 8 Magnesium wheels with Goodyear slicks the same as the ones in your photo that George Bunce gave me. Just as I got the car to the track the sidchrome popped up so I quickly removed the flares, put all the upholstry back in it and sold it for $7500.00 to a guy Danny Clark who ran it in Prod Supercars for a bit. Nick Lefting sold the wheels and tyres thru GSS for me.

John, Cambridge was owned by British Imperial Tobacco distributed in NZ by that company in Napier...still there today. It is a gamble but why don't you contact them, explain the situation and ask them do they have the old records of the paint colours used in advertising. Most corporate companies were very strict in regard to advertising and had references to the correct paint colours to use and the paint manufacture. Best of luck, Bruce
