Fast forward to 1993 as I skip through the mountain of film negatives - 8,000 of which have been logged so far (includes non-car stuff) but only a fraction scanned. Relatively few slides scanned.
This gorgeous Singer 9 coupe (identical to the only car dad owned when we were young) is now for sale (Fremantle) if anyone is interested. According to the owner, there are only about 12 known to have survived (Dad's was scrapped in 1966). I can put anyone interested in touch with the owner. I was tempted, but out of my price bracket without selling the Marcos. The seller also owns a Marcos Volvo 3L... Strange coincidence.

Back to Mallory Park, May 25th 1970 (not 1971 as posted earlier). Gee, that is such a long time ago... Some are a little out of focus but that camera had no fancy rangefinder or auto focus, no auto shutter speed and aperture settings and no long lens.
Should have been in the whoopsies section, but I hadn't scanned it then.

Ray, I hope the whanau didnt all try to squeeze into the back of the Singer and go for a day trip to the seaside. Would have been very claustrophobic. Has a very similar body style to the MG of the period. I have a soft spot for Singers.......had a 1928 8hp Junior back in 1958, and a mate had a LeMans while we were at Lincoln.

Would you believe it - but a Healey engine! I'm not too sure of the Modsports rules of the day, but generally I think the engines had to be based on the standard item. It was a very popular class for several seasons and seemed to cater for fairly standard looking cars as well as the more heavily modified ones.
The Whanau was quite small then - me and a younger brother and a baby brother. For 12 years, our car languished in the garage, as dad ran out of half shafts I believe. My best pal and I would spend hours sitting in it and wished we had the ability to get it on the road again!

Thanks Ray, there were many Healeys that received V8 transplants in the '60s and '70s, both in circuit race, and drag racing, thats its quite cool when one retains its original motor.

#98 John Sabourin's Elan was 2nd on the grid.
#82 Richard Taft (Cobra) 3rd on the grid, but won the race.
Andy Belcher's Sprite was 4th on the grid.
There were 4 classes, by capacity.
Note to commentators: In days' past, the commentators had time to read out a list of non-starters - slowly enough for you to record them - grid positions and then afterwards, the official results. But, the UK and European system then and now is of a long winded day with lots of wasted time between races, whereas the NZ system has a lot more racing - and you can find the results on 'MyLaps' anyway, even if most of the time it only has the driver and not the car!
Prefer the NZ system hands down.
Goodwood Festival of Speed 1996. This is now a sell out, ticket only event, so if it looks as though there weren't many people there in some pics, think again, as it was a case of getting in early. Despite my considerable height, viewing the on-track action was often behind three or four rows of spectators, so getting decent action shots was just about impossible.

When I visited Patrick Head at Williams Engineering in June 1996, Patrick was about to go to Goodwood to set up the Williams 6 wheel
Formula One car he designed in 1982. The FW08B. It never raced but Patrick has his notes on the car in his hand as we were photographed in their showroom.
By any chance did you take any photos of this six wheeler when you were there ?

I posted a message earlier, today, but it disappeared! Ken, I think I have pics of the six wheeler at the Donington Museum, Goodwood - (static) and at Monaco 2012. I'll post eventually... (see later post)
Scanner seems to be developing a mind of its own as I had to rescan several negs, (took 32 wasted minutes for just one set of scans...) as the produced scan wasn't as sharp as my negatives. I didn't want to post poorer quality pics than they deserve.

I found these B&W pics from a 1982 press release that Patrick sent to me of the 6 wheeled Williams F 1 car. Not as great a quality as your photos but gives an idea of this different approach to getting the power to the road. Imagine the pit work to do a tire change on this !

Whoops! Sorry, I was thinking about the Tyrrell!!! No, I didn't see the Williams 6 wheeler, but I'm usually only at Goodwood on the Fridays with a very patient wife or a non-petrolhead brother, so I don't take as many pics as I would like and am not normally around for much of the actual competition.
More from Goodwood. The re-scan's showed that I was right to do so, but what waste of time.
Currently seriously contemplating a visit to the Goodwood Revival in 2016, but as it is less than 2 weeks after returning from our annual long cruise, I may need to do some serious grovelling at home... (and sell off more books, memorabilia and garage items).
This is from a slightly earlier film of the day. I had/have been taking a pot luck attitude to scanning by flicking through three large volumes of filed negatives, but in this instance, I did want to digitally capture a few more from that specific event.
Heading up to the top paddock before they moved all the cars down to their allocated parking areas was productive, but the crowds pile in very quickly.

The Festival paddocks are usually open to all, whereas at the Revival Race meeting, you need a pass to get into the paddock - and they are not on general sale.
2002 again. Having learned from my previous visit, I managed to elbow my way to a better viewing position for a while. In pre digital days, there were just far too many great cars to snap, so taking just a fraction of what was around was a limiting factor. Not the sharpest of photographs (or maybe the scanner is playing up again). Two more for Spgeti...

Having just finished reading Tony Brooks detailed autobiography (Poetry In Motion), I'm glad I managed to get this picture. Probably too much of a gentleman to have received the recognition he truly deserved, he could so easily have been World Champion and is generally acknowledged as being kinder on the car than any of his contemporaries. Later accounts from others almost always rate him very highly as a team member as well as a driver. Probably in my all time top five of favourite drivers.

The Devin SS was built as a turn key Sports car powered by The small block chevy. Only 15 cars "SS" were made.

This is a Devon Healey 100 V8 powered I saw for sale on the net some years ago. It had a tubular subframe welded to the original chassis and a fibreglass body. Probably a nice quick car that handled pretty well. The V8 would have been a similar weight to the 100/4 engine with a lot more power!!

I love these 1950s American cottage industry sports cars. There were a bunch of different manufacturers, producing some really pretty cars.
Did the Echidna (pictured) use the same same body molds as the Devin?

Allan, us vintage guys call those lever arms :) but yes that's what is in there. Some race series insist on using what was fitted originally, so may be why. When they are working properly they are still a good system, just their maintenance was often overlooked.

Thanks for that. I have a few quandaries when cataloguing the pics. So many cars and so many categories, so generally, manufactured cars are filed by make initial country of origin.
There is also a huge list of 'specials' which range from manufactured specials to total one offs. Although many were body kits plonked onto rather mundane mechanicals, many have volume in their favour.
I do now have a major problem in knowing how to identify and therefore catalogue 'replicas'. For example, if you spy a good Lotus Eleven replica which may be a Westfield, but the owner has put Lotus badges on it or as I saw in the UK, the most stunning recreations/replicas of the 1950's Aston Martin, how do you know? AC Cobra's or replicas? Photographs I took in 1970 are easy, but take a pic today at an overseas venue?

The other issue is that I file all road car makes by country and also try and keep a copy of all British Race cars by the year I took the photograph.
This makes it difficult with cars that may have been manufactured in more than one country. Do you file the original Ford GT40 as British or American? (So far, I file the originals as British and the more recent one as USA.)
How do you categorise McLarens?
How terrible to be so anal about it, but when and if pictures are published, who wants to be shot down in flames when you post or even worse, publish a picture believing it to be a genuine car and it turns out to be a replica.
What about the 191 shark nose Ferrari and Lancia D50(?) replicas? We know they are recreations as the originals no longer exist.

Note: This first hall at Donington is now full of Kevin's military collection. Yeuk... I haven't been in since the Collection was diluted and probably won't go again, as I doubt there are any new racing car exhibits in there. I last visited the collection September 2009, but due to a weird computer hiccup, lost every single picture I'd taken that day. Even though I bought an image recovery programme, the pics were never recovered.
Not a replica, but a car that Tony Vandervell virtually ignored, wasting time and resources resuscitating the outdated front engine car instead of developing this rear engine car, much to Tony Brooks' obvious disappointment.

Car is a replica, previous owner spent a lot of years making this with Merc motor, Bedford front hubs.

Another of those America sports cars that we haven't heard of. But what a stunning looking engine. No matter what my engines or cars look like when first assembled, or how much care is taken, it seems that the random effects of water, oil and hydraulic problems conspire to make them look very second-hand very quickly! Just had a minor issue with the Rover V8 engine's water system. Rusty water has stained my nice under bonnet area...! I only put the full strength antifreeze/anti corrosion stuff in when everything is water tight and has settled down.

Yes absolutely agree on that Ray........I would say that this machine leads a VERY sheltered life living in an airconditioned room and never started.......otherwise as you say oil and water crap gets everywhere.

Seeing the Silkcut Jag reminds me of being at Nurburgring 1000km when they ran. The "split race" with Parc Ferme version. On the restart one of the Sauber Mercs was a little "energetic" (no rubbing is NOT racing IMHO) and took out the leading car from the previous part. Late in the race we heard the then lead Jag drop power heavily coming on to the finish straight with a fair few laps to go. Drivers nursed it to the end but lost their lead on the penultimate lap. I expected the German crowd to go nuts as "their" car won, but polite applause, and a rousing reception for the ailing Jag which stopped not far over the finish. Great meeting to go to, lots of variety and superb Gluvine (sp?) from the merchants under the grandstands.

Despite the huge crowds at UK events, I have to say that invariably, the spectators are very considerate and aware of those wishing to take photographs. Now everyone seems to be clutching a phone or an i-pad, usually oblivious to all around them, often blocking their views, I wonder if it will be the same next time I'm at Goodwood? However, I do tend to take 'snapshots' quickly, rather than fluff around hogging the prime spots, something which many of the phone and the i-pad warriors need to learn!
I'm guessing here at January 1994 but again, no programme so no confirmed details. This was probably the beginnings of the annual January Festivals, held then at Pukekohe. Lola's I presume for the first 2 pictures.

Ray, the first red F5000 car is ( I believe ) Ken Smith in a Matich A50 or A51. We have a photo that Dad took of it sitting lop-sided on a standard car trailer, possibly from the same meeting as your photo. The Matich was too wide for the trailer and the tyres on one side are sitting up on the trailer side rails. I've always wondered what happened this car.
#41 is a Lola T430, which David Abbott owns ( 2 of them, both ex team VDS, one of which Ken Smith drove for a few years ). Only 3 ever made, Todd Stewart owns the 3rd one ( ex Haas ), it was on display at the NZFMR last year.
The white car, and the next photo yellow and black car are Lola T330 or T332's.

The French invasion is adding a more European flavour and all are going well. The 2 Peugeots are refugees from the U2K Cup, as they have fallen foul of their tight regulations, but being European, no reason why they shouldn't run with ERC. Whilst some may grizzle about the inclusion of the slightly newer cars, without them, the entries would be lower.

Although ERC are at both Festival weekends (the latest HRC newsletter doesn't mention ERC for the first weekend...), Paul may be bringing a Porsche to weekend 1 but I gather from JB, that Paul may be racing that glorious 250 GTO Ferrari recreation for weekend 2. As I am only racing weekend 1, hopefully I'll get some decent photographs weekend 2!

Thanks Ray. I have been privileged to see Paul's beautiful GTA up close a few years ago at The May Madness race meeting that AROC hold every year at Manfeild. A beautiful and very rare car and we can thank Paul for saving it from going overseas. cheers
Morning was very greasy and Adrian's car set up at the rear left a lot to be desired. Sadly, he had a touch with Bruce Manon's freshly rebuilt car during the last lap of the last race, resulting in a bit of minor damage to the front left of the MG and the rear right corner of Bruce's Escort. At least with both cars having in car video, trying to sort out who was in the right or wrong was a made a bit easier.

A real mix this set... Apologies if I have ever repeated a post, as they have often been picked at random. Scanning odd bits and pieces of film at random has been more rewarding than trying to totally plod through in sequence.
Currently having a sort out of the filing archive structure and a word of warning to all amateurs. Make sure you have back ups - that work! I have been somewhat distressed to find that some archived CDs/DVDs don't seem to read now and having had one external 500Gb hard drive fail after spending 40 hours collating and copying stuff, I don't really trust some back up methods. It may be getting close to the time to pay for a full upload/storage of all picture files on DropBox or similar.

The staff car park at Ashford Remand Centre -probably during my first year as a Prison Officer. The owner of the Jaguar is a good friend to this day and was recently Mayor of the small Norfolk town of Downham Market. He moved on from the Prison Service and eventually became a class 1 police driver. His daughter is staff sergeant to the Assistant Chief Constable!

Ray, I was at the 1983 Donington F2 meeting and well recall one of the best motor races I have ever seen - those re-bodied F2/F5000 cars put on a fantastic show and while there Esprits and Skodas etc., the two cars at the front that created this great spectacle were Jeff Wilson and Andy Barton - a couple of northern lads who were obviously mates but just went for it on the track.
I don't recall any fender rubbing or damage - just good old fashioned close motor racing. Wilson was in the ex David Purley Chevron B30-Ford GAA V6 that had a BMW M1 body draped over it, while the rear engine body Barton had selected was an AC M3000 - or similar, over what I think was an F2 March.
These were weird things but they sure provided a great car race.
It was indeed a very popular category Michael and you are 100% right. I think there was far less damage or even fender bending than we seem to take for granted here, particularly in the modern categories. Come to think of it, out of the 1,000's of pics I have taken over the years, I have none of damaged cars from that era other than self inflicted.
The whole UK Modsports and Super Saloon categories created very interesting cars and these days, we seem to be so stuck into parity and tight rules, that we have lost out on what made our sport a real spectacle - and one of the reasons that our Historic Saloons class has the potential to be a real crowd pleaser.

Quite right Michael. Met the owner when staying in the Essex Arms pub in Huntly whilst attending HD last year. He is the most affable, pleasant person you could wish to meet. More importantly, he has huge engineering expertise and resources behind him. Cannot wait to see the car racing again.

and that Austin Seven reminds of one that my Dad and Uncle had pre WW2, with cut down doors and an angled screen, theirs had a full roof and the rear seat. Have sent a copy of the picture to my Uncle Ed [ Eddie ] Dowding as know he will enjoy it.. with reference to whose photo it is.

Fun to drive too as it has a mechanical package that comes from only part of one year of production with a VERY strange gearshift pattern which took a few people to resolve. Yes it is original to the vehicle. Overtook the Satellite on the front straight at Roycroft 2015, at 35mph on the speedo with Jan McLaren encouraging "go faster"!

Adrian Dobbe kept us guessing as we never knew whether or not he would grid up with the ERC runners, causing the start line handicap flagger a few problems. When drivers don't inform dummy grid marshals or series officials they are not running in a specific race and a whole row disappears. It can cause hiccups to those who are on the row behind too.

When you look at this car (albeit a replica) and the McLaren, above, it just shows what a stunning car the original GT40 was over 50 years ago. I was captivated by it then and although like Clarkson, I might not be able to fit my lanky frame into it comfortably, it remains one of my all time favourite cars for looks. Maybe I'll ask Steve Rasmussen if I can get into it. At least I am used to getting in and out of a low GT...

Probably the only real grizzle I have about the event is the programme. Someone needs to proof read it thoroughly as even though I have only really skimmed through it, there are far too many errors. According to the programme this 2015 UCM has a 14.25 litre engine and is fitted with a 4 speed Darracq gearbox and at 100mph, is doing 1650rpm.... I'm not sure what 'breaks' it is fitted with .

Since Windows XP days I have been using the Windows PowerTool image-resizer. It is no longer made/supported by Mircosoft but the tool is still alive and well. I use it all the time. It is fast and simple.

I think it is the Kieft FPE Climax "Godiva" V8 - Construction was commenced in 1953 and the car was completed and first raced, 49 years later, in 2002!

The joy of Goodwood! I hadn't really heard of the car before then, although Kieft was well known - though if I had read about it in passing, I'd certainly forgotten all about it. Impressive that you two recognised it!
Now working on trying to get a paddock pass for this year's event so that I can get some more decent pics and so far, had no luck! Time to do a bit of grovelling... Spending an arm and a leg to get there and to get in for 3 days, then not getting into the paddock, is like going to Anaheim for the first time and not going into Disneyland.

The Godiva was one of motor racing's great 'what might have beens'.
As Roger says, it was developed in 1954 with intended teams being Cooper, HWM, Connaught and Kieft. Then the bhp figures - optimistic as it turns out - out of Italy were divulged and Coventry Climax concluded, incorrectly, that their engine was underpowered...

Shelsey 1965 - using 30 year old black and white film in an even older camera. Maybe an Ensign camera? heavily cropped - thank goodness, as the negative was quite tatty around the edges. One of dad's extensive collection of cameras that peaked at 627 when he died, all of them catalogued and assessed, repaired if necessary and sold at Sotheby's - no idea how much for! I held on to the old Leica that he was using on the day, but I never found any pics he took, or the negatives.

Alexis
The name Alexis was derived from the names of Bill Harris & Alex Francis who constructed the first model the Alexis Mk1 for the 1960 season. This car only raced once in the UK at Oulton Park and on that occasion was driven by Alex Francis. Soon after the car was shipped to the USA but eventually returned to the UK and has been owned and raced regularly for over 20 years by Duncan Rabagliati (Chairman FJHRA) this car was and is the only MK1 in existence with a serial No of HF101 reflecting the surnames of the two constructors.
The Mk1 is front engined and powered by a BMC A series engine and BMC gearbox. Chassis is tubular spaceframe with an aluminium body. Independent suspension at the front using Triumph Herald unequel wish bones and coil springs, with rear suspension via a modified live Austin A35 axle with coil springs and rods.

I am not totally sure but I thought that with a front engine and a drive shaft to the rear diff that the offset position would allow the driver to be able to sit lower and also be an advantage for weight distribution.
The later front engine Indy racers certainly used the offset position a lot if all the cornering was to the left.
Note how the engine and drive line are set to the left in this 1961 Chenowth Indy car.

John is now in the UK, known as William, has been for some years. Ray said he took these at Smales Farm gathering which means it's recent, so no, not that car.
That pic was taken just this week - last Sunday of May. I know nothing of the details of the car.
Busy now with organising my last ERC Series Dinner, so no time to scan any more old slides or negatives until probably October. With Goodwood ear-marked for September, I expect to add a fair few pics to my library later in the year. Anything I post between now and then will be gap fillers tripped over whilst backing up.
This set is from my 'undated' group, which, thanks to slides, is far more difficult to accurately date than negative film. Any confirmed date of any pic would be appreciated. Running your mouse over the image will tell you from the first three digits, what year I think it is. (185 = 1985)

This is the very first race car of American driver Sam Posey, who went on to big things in Formula 5000, and in Trans-Am, where he drove for Penske and Shelby, and, along with Ray Caldwell, ran the Autodynamics factory Dodge Challengers in 1970.

Yup, and Paul Halford came in on the end of a tow rope too.
Tony O went very well indeed (13th?) and Neil was driving well in the Jocko, putting in some very respectable times and tagging onto the group in front, who had much quicker cars.
Paul Radisich was one of the star drivers in the A35 race, but the car sounded off colour in Friday practice, retired during the wet race Saturday, but the car (with its owner driving), sounded and went much better on Sunday.
Taken many, many pics of course, but will post a few over time. I also visited Brooklands and the Coventry Transport Museum (that one is free by the way and excellent). Tomorrow, hoping for the Heritage Museum, before heading to a Chris Barber concert, near Milton Keynes.

Not only visits to Brooklands and Goodwood on this trip, as above, but sample pics still to come from the Coventry Transport Museum (free admission), Heritage Museum at Gaydon and the London Car Museum at Hayes (not far from Heathrow). A varied selection of museums but I opted to NOT go into the Donington Museum, as I believe it is now a very pale shadow of what it once was. Sad, as I had been a regular visitor almost from the day it opened, 40 yeas ago.
The Coventry museum is not that well known but is well worth a visit. Highlights are the Thrust exhibits and simulator. Also a good insight into the transport manufacturers of Coventry-bicycles, motorcycles, trucks, tractors are all represented.

Sorry, I'm not sure of its history! Enjoyed Brooklands but the Napier '4D' experience wasn't worth the extra money.
Between 600 and 700 volunteers are involved, with the aircraft, motorbikes, cars and the London bus museum. There were quite a few around when I called and as with most volunteers, both informative and helpful. The sunshine helped make this a very enjoyable visit - and I can highly recommend chef's cottage pie!

That is it, as a virtually full sample of the Formula Junior entry. As the first race up on the Sunday, Chichester Cup, they had the benefit of a sunny day, unlike the Saturday competitors.
Huge thanks to Tony O, who managed to get me a Saturday ticket when they'd all sold out and also a mechanic's armband that got me not only into the paddock, but also the roof of the pits where I was able to take many of the photographs seen here. Getting a clear view of the chicane for example, from the outside of the track, was just about impossible Saturday and Sunday as the crowd was huge.
Saturday, I managed to rig up my umbrella and hide under it for most of the day.

Probably my least favourite race group of the whole Revival was the under 3 litre 1960 - 1966 sports prototypes. For that reason and the fact that there were so few makes represented, what I put on here is only a selection of the grid.
What was missing from the Revival this year was a decent varied saloon grid, as the St Mary's Trophy (two races) was Austin A35s only. So, three grids out of a total of just 16 had the all important variety I crave, missing, plus two motor bike grids, which is a popular part of the Revival, but I'm a bit lukewarm about those too. I may be in a minority here, given that the event was and always is a total sellout, but the programme is dragged out over two race days, plus a late race on Friday which I missed, with far too much precious track time, totally wasted. A proper saloon grid always produces great racing and should never be dropped. My opinion only!

An altercation at the chicane when a faster car was bit impatient, resulted in this 1 door Lotus 23... The passenger side door left in the middle of the track. It would be interesting to see his Go Pro coverage, but I doubt the picture quality would be too good.

Bill Shepherd is a long-time Cobra racer. I saw him competing in a Cobra at the Silverstone Classic way back in about 1993/94. That was a dark green car, but I wonder if its the same one pictured. Most of the Cobras these days run the hardtop lids to make them a little more slippery, which they didn't use back then.
Shepherd had a coming-together with the Bamford 250GTO at Goodwood, hence the damage.

Hi Steve, if you run your mouse over most of the posted pics, they should show the car make. This is a Lister Bristol - and one of my favourites too.
Incidentally, Listers had a stand at Goodwood as they are still doing run-ons of the much loved Lister Jaguar.

Talking of Listers-whatever happened to the Lister Jag that Paul Leach (don't know if that is correct spelling) raced here in classic events?
Paul Leuch. I had heard that it had gone back to the UK, but not sure whether or not it was involved in the East Tamaki fire, ditto the Connaught.
Incidentally, Paul's early V8 Morgan is the one now owned by Chris Fraser. I seem to remember Paul also racing a dark green Aston Martin DB4.

As a break from the racers, sundry pics from on and off the track and in the car park. I could have spent far more time in the car parks, but you just cannot do everything. Somewhat weary by the end of the day, as I'd set off from Bournemouth or Southampton at 6.30am each day.
There are quite a few trade stalls outside the circuit, including arguably, some of the best food stalls, not to mention the funfair, but you now have to show an entry ticket to get in, probably as it also includes a massive area with a large TV screen, so you could sit in there and watch the racing. Getting a decent cup of coffee in the paddock wasn't that easy as the number of places actually selling coffee was quite limited. On the outside of the actual circuit, or the track itself, a different matter altogether.
Large cod and chips at £9 was exceptionally tasty! Not cheap, but well worth it. A bacon bap (3 slices of bacon) was usually about a fiver.

The Jaguar E2A was part of the Jack Brabham celebration and only the car, not the driver is listed. Glad you like the pics! It's good to be able to share them, not just the recent ones such as Goodwood, but the stuff from the substantial personal archives.
Digital pics do make it so simple but the real time consumer is scanning slides in high definition. I can only manage a few per session - and I get bored quite quickly!

None other than Troy Corser, who dropped this BMW in the rain on the Saturday, exiting the Chicane, where he hit the large puddle. This 500cc bike is owned by BMW and their factory mechanics were on hand to replace the damaged head overnight. Apparently, they were thrilled to bits with Troy's pace on this 1937 machine. The crowd were also impressed.

The 60's attired grid girls with the hand permanently on the left hip. Always a brave smile even though the weather on Saturday, wasn't too good. This was taken a matter of seconds before the rain started - the cars have just set off on their formation lap.

Big bangers - hugely popular... It's a shame that generally, you only get to see the cars twice over the three day weekend. Bad weather on just one race day or one mechanical issue can totally ruin a driver's weekend - and the spectators'. You cannot therefore see all cars running on any one day.

Yes, a fascinating car. I've always been interested in '60s sports and GT cars featuring American V8 power and British, Italian or French chassis. I have a book somewhere on Iso and Bizzarrini.
I believe this mid-engined spider was the only one of its kind. So it was sad to see it so badly damaged. How did the crash happen Ray? Was it car failure or over-driving?
Not sure what happened Steve, as the accident happened on the far side of the circuit. It happened just moments after this pic was taken, during Friday practice and I tend not to listen to the commentaries anyway. Sorry JT...

Completely agree with you Ray, about the unusual and rare, there are a few angles you look at the Hamill and think of where they have taken styling cues from, the rear almost looks Lotus like, but the Cooper Monacos are gorgeous as well!
Love the Porsche and the De Tomaso, the latter almost has a touch of a late model Statesman about the rear of it, in my opinion at least.
That is a Monteverdi - although similar to the De Thomaso. Probably the first I have seen.
Totally agree about the Cooper Monaco and most cars of that era. Always a favourite of mine. The next group will be sports/sports racing cars 1952 - 1955. Who would have thought you'd get a full grid of 30 from a 3 year span of cars built over 60 years ago?
Just about all action pics taken from just one spot on the track. Moving anti-clockwise around the track, once you get to Madgwick, with such huge crowds, even on Friday, moving on means not being able to see the track at all for a while, so you tend to stay put.
After this group, it was the Formula Juniors (already published) when my battery died and to my horror, discovered I'd left the spare batteries in the car...
I totally missed all Sussex Trophy cars, both in practice and racing as practice wasn't until 6pm and also the very last race on Sunday at 5:25pm, by which time I'd gone. If ever I do it again, I'd probably just do Friday and probably stay to the bitter end, regardless of potential traffic delays on exit.

I would never have guessed that one, looks alot like a Longchamp, to me anyway, when you consider it was built and remodelled by Fissore after the initial design from Frua, and Fissore also built for De Tomaso...They could almost be brothers.

Agree! The members meeting was even on the Air NZ entertainment system last month. If you look back at old race programmes, the majority of races were for single seaters, sports cars or sports racing cars. In other words, semi exotic. In fact, racing saloons is a relatively new innovation. (Bearing in mind my age, relatively new...)
What do we get these days? Utes, more utes and taxis... Thank goodness Tony Quinn is bringing the GT's to NZ.

As others have posted Ken, ALL photographs are valid, good or not so good!
Personally, even with my ancient stuff, I try to scan, crop, then display the subject as best I can, but this takes 10 times as long as just a quick scan and publish. At least with a modern digital camera, you have the luxury of taking 1,000's and then deleting what isn't up to scratch - for free. It only takes time.
When I think that Dad lugged a large plate camera to Donington pre war, with just 12 glass slides for the day, but most came out well, you accept how easy it is today. More UK pics to follow.

I haven't finished with the UK trip pictures, but as a quick break, just a sample from the TACCOC Spring meeting today at Hampton Downs. I wasn't there too long, but good to see three events going on at the same time. Drifting on the short track (with lots of noise and an incredible amount of smoke covering the area - including the National track...) the skid pan and the National track. Looks as though the kart track is almost ready, with just the office building/workshop and car park area to finish.

The RAC TT Celebration was possibly the feature event for the weekend. First practice was Friday; qualifying practice was on the wet Saturday and Sunday's race was a 1 hour, two driver affair. No excuses for posting more than one pic of some of the cars.

The Sunbeam-Lister Tiger was another of my favourite cars of the weekend. Owned by Tony Eckford, but driven by Chris Beighton and Matt Neal. Always good to see so many 'star' drivers.

This bronze E Type Jaguar, owned by Paul Webb, driven by Jackie Oliver and John Young, is the first ever E Type Jaguar I saw racing, at Mallory Park and one of the earliest. It was driven then by its first owner, Ken Baker and I think that somewhere, I have a (poor) photograph of it. I can still remember the day the E Type was announced and the first picture I saw, published in the Daily Mirror, and the reaction from my school mates and the general public.
It was genuinely mind blowing and to this day, is still one of the most beautiful cars ever made - though I preferred the FHC.

I think there were more Jaguars competing than any other make, so no apologies for yet more Jaguar pictures. I did miss seeing the Mk2 Jaguars racing other saloons though. I do believe that just about all the E Types racing, sounded so smooth and well balanced.
