ERC - Ray, those " Old Ford 10's " what a lineup.
The Saloon on the right - amazing they were around from late 1930's - that is a 1939, and as the Popular the last of the early perpendicular Ford 10's in 1959 - our neighbour in New Lynn had one of the last ones, up the road was Allan Woolf in his Ford 8 Racing Saloon and we had an E493A Prefect of the later generation. The neighbourhood fleet..

I've got to the stage now where I am itching to get overseas to snap stuff that isn't local. There's a limit to how many times I can justify a pic of say Racing Ray Williams, or a Formula Junior Gemini, much as I like both.
I'm not too sure how others see my posts, especially of the slightly more modern cars or local shows.
As many are deeply wrapped in NZ's rich history of motoring and motorsport, the people, cars, tracks of decades ago, I sometimes wonder if I should limit what I post, to just 'special' cars either from history or not seen locally. I'd be interested in your comments.

Of the various cars my ex boss in the UK had me drive, (Aston Martin DBS Vantage, Rolls Silver Shadow, BMW 2002, NSU, Citroen 2CV, Austin 1800, Vauxhall 6 etc.), the Daimler Sovereign was probably the most impressive.

This is now back on my drive... Roger has done the clutch, brakes, carbs etc., and I'm now trying to sort out the butchered wiring. Someone seems to have removed the original starter relay and when redoing it, obviously got it totally wrong as the wire that used to go to the starter/solenoid is a twisted melted mess and at the ignition switch, virtually non-existent, so it wouldn't turn over. Roger, like many mechanics, steers well clear of electrics.

i only found out when talking to Paul and Todd Forsyth that their Telstar was built in Japan. I had to revise my library as I class cars by country - even though these days, some Japanese cars are built in GB and Brit cars built all over the place. I can't be too pedantic about it.

Not a pic, sorry. I had an initial agreement to sell our apartment, 111 at Hampton Downs (Amon Block - upper floor, nearest the go kart track, corner unit), generally thought of as the best viewing unit of all.
Sadly, the sale has fallen through and we are currently overseas!
I do not intend putting it with an agent, but if anyone is interested or knows of anyone who might be interested, please send me a private message. Available after July 31st but we aren't back until August 25th. Bad timing...
We are the original owners and bought off the plans. The unit is held in a Limited company and the company is for sale.
The unit is furnished - although some items are now a little tired. Great investment for someone wanting to live on site. A favourite of renters when in the rental pool.

I think I've almost finished the car stuff on this trip. Brooklands, Gaydon, the Silverstone Experience, Shelsley Walsh (wet!) and just the National Motor Museum (again) to go. Loads of pics obviously, but I won't upload regularly until we get back.

A gathering of Railton's was most impressive at Shelsley. Unfortunately, it was so wet, that I hadn't noticed that I got some water on the lens of the pocket camera and some pics aren't the best. The full sized camera kept steaming up too.
The car to the right is a Brough Superior convertible, sister car to the one my Dad's boss had...
If I'd known about the Oulton Park meeting the same weekend, I'd probably have gone there instead.

The only action pictures of the trip were Shelsley Walsh and as there was only one really good vantage point, photographically, I resorted to taking pics of cars coming down the hill, just for a different angle.

Part of an issue I have with several museums is that the placement of the exhibits are either obstructed by the info plinths set too close and block part of the car, or they are crammed into a space that makes getting an unobstructed view of the whole impossible.

" One for Rhys " - I see the cars have the timing bars on the front, used in Hill Climbs in the UK - had not seen them until recently.
Timing struts (beam breakers) have been around for donkey's years. Without one, they will only time to 1/10th of a second. With them, 1/100th. Before electronic timing, it wasn't an issue.

There are literally hundreds of look alike Trotter Reliants in the UK, and all claim they are correct.
Exactly. Not sure how many Chitty Chitty Bang Bangs there are either. I think there are two at the National Motor museum as one was upstairs on display and another was in the 'parade'. We also have Peter Jackson's one in NZ.

A few decades ago on BBC TV, Saturday afternoon sport covered a wide variety of sports in addition to dog meat racing. Even motorsport had a wide variety of disciplines covered, including mud plugging sporting car trials, 'point to point' with the army vs the London Motor Club using anything from three tonners to Land Rovers. Autotests (the annual Ken Wharton trophy between North, South, East, West and Midlands, circuit racing (of course) and hillclimbs.
One of the hillclimbs was 'Rest-And-Be-Thankful' in Scotland, where a young Jackie Stewart had his first competitive event in a Marcos. Rather fittingly that when we were on a ships tour there on two visits to Scotland, the 2023 visit had a bright yellow MGF parked at the top car park.

For me, variety is what is missing in a lot of modern day motorsport. Even modern F1 cars stripped of their colours look identical as do most single seater classes, not to mention the execrable ute racing, Toyota 86s even BMW E30s/E40's just have me heading off for a coffee rather than trackside.
These are 2023 pics from this year's trip as are most I'm currently posting. I'm missing the monthly local Caffeine & Classics meetings that were held on the North Shore and with Pukekohe now gone, my pics won't be very varied until I get to Goodwood Revival again next September! At this stage, Friday (qualifying) is planned and possibly Saturday, but nothing else as yet.
I'd love to return to Cadwell Park or Prescott Hillclimb at some stage, maybe even Mallory Park, places where I never had the luxury of a camera with anything other than a standard fixed lens.

The National Motor Museum has an extensive 'Top Gear' section but the 'Hammerhead Eagle' has to be just about the worst looking 'special' ever. I have only included it to show some of the breadth of exhibits. The museum is still worth a visit whenever I'm in the area.

Ray, I hope you are OK with me sharing your photo of Freik with the current custodian, and driver in your photo.
Go for it Rhys. I don't mind my pics shared with friends, but if posted on other websites, I do expect an acknowledgement. If posted in club newsletters or other limited publications, permission is usually granted and no charge. If in books or adverts, again, permission and an acknowledgement required otherwise it is a breach of copyright and a fee may be charged.
I have even seen one of my pics used in a UK advert without permission! I have about 750 pics for sale on Alamy so far, but it is a bit of a hassle loading them and if they reject just one pic out of an uploaded batch, they reject them all.

Three pics of Vince's amazing Magnette V8 2 door coupe. Not just panelling in the rear doors but moving the B pillar back and extending the front doors. Imagine the complexity regarding window frames, winding gear, (back and front), glass etc., in addition to the metalwork.
So many clever touches in this car - and boy, did it go well on a blast around the local streets with amazing grip - no wheelspin at all.
Purists may not like it, but it is so well done and he's done all the work himself. Probably now needs a respray, but the V8 is about the third or 4th engine. Previously, at some stage, it had even had an MG twin cam. I think Vince has owned it for many years. He also has a P5 Rover with an LPG conversion.

I have been inspired recently by my buddy Don Packwood and his superb oil paintings, so I may drag the brushes out and I have bought a basic set of oil paints, not having used the medium since painting by numbers sets in my early teens.
I'm preparing the Marcos for sale (owned since April 1991) and the ex-Geoff Bonham MGB GT also has to go, so 2024 is a bit of a clear out year.
I'm also selling the Hampton Downs apartment and I may also make an effort to clear out some of my older magazines, CDs, books, models etc., as I'm conscious that should I keel over, much will be dumped in a skip instead of going to good homes!

Back to a few pics stacked up before I went away. At this time of the year, I have to ensure all pics are well and truly backed up, a bit of deletion of repeated images etc., especially as the majority of cars are the same at each meeting I manage to attend.
I'm not too sure how many pics I still have to scan from old negatives/slides and I do know that some scans weren't as big as they could have been, but it is all very time consuming, and for what? When I keel over, I'll have to ensure that the drive containing all car pics goes to a good home - Steve Holmes maybe?

Back in 2021 at Goodwood, I spied this 'Vantare', not knowing anything about it. Only later did I find out it was the brainchild of popular TV personality Bradley Walsh and was the prototype for a proposed run of 10 cars. It appears that only this one was built.

2024 is celebrating 100 years of MG and there is such a plethora of models that it is a real enthusiast who can accurately identify all of them. I have to resort to Carjam more often than I would like, but it doesn't help when I have pics of two cars wearing the same numberplate - but Carjam shows the plate belongs to a Hillman Avenger!
The MGCC put on a great display at 'The Cloud' on Auckland's waterfront then followed it up with a large display at the Ellerslie concours.
The Chinese electric MG has just won car of the year in NZ, but I can't really get too excited about it, though many members of the MGCC seem to be buying the recent models.

A dip back to 1978, when the Nottingham Sports Car Club ran sprints at Donington in 1977 & 1978. Then there were no more sprints at Donington - or Silverstone's club circuit. Shame. Curborough's 900 yard sprint course was all that was left locally for sprinters.

Looks odd with those tyres! Although I eventually put the V8 into an MG Magnette, my first choice was a Riley 1.5. SMILEY the Riley as I had the numberplate all ready. I'm currently selling the SMILEY personalised plate, which has been on the Marcos for a few years.

Like that Humber 80, with the 13 inch " Rostyle " wheels presume off a later Sunbeam Rapier or Humber Sceptre.
Loving Nigel's pics. I only use a small, older Canon pocket camera for all stills, so the quality is not as good as Nigel's - and his knees are better than mine so he can get down lower!
