Is it a bonnet protrusion - or a laurel wreath laying on the bonnet ?
That is ex-pat kiwi Roger Wills' car. Still a Lotus 15 with 1960cc engine and yes, a laurel wreath on the bonnet.
That was the last race on the Saturday at 5:50pm, but I was knackered by then (I'd been there since 7:15am and was still hobbling with a badly sprained ankle so got away before the crowds built up. Sad (for me) that every year, they have that as the final race of the day, so I have yet to catch them other than in practice and it is one of my favourite race groups.

And a massive thank you to Steve for the opportunity to share the pics that would otherwise languish on my computer, unseen. I suppose that means it is time to make another donation to keep the site running.
I hope that what I post is in fact appreciated by casual visitors and not just the keen regulars.
The number of views is important as it ensures the retention of the MSNZ media accreditation - with the backing of the Historic Racing Club.
Pity that I haven't been able to attend NZ events recently and the loss of the monthly Caffeine & Classics which was just 10 minutes, away, still hurts. It was always not just about the cars, but catching up with other enthusiasts.

For next season, both groups will probably run under the 'Arrow Wheels' banner (still in 2 speed groups), as although the AES naming was carried on after the unfortunate passing of Steve Harris, it was without sponsorship.

Oldfart's son is investigating 3D printing wire wheels (and Dunlop wheels) but the sizing is crucial.
I think the older cars such as ERA's ran larger diameter wheels in period than they do today. Same applies to Alta's and one or two others.
Yours look 1000% better than the originals.

One aspect of Goodwood that is appreciated by visitors but often overlooked by journalists, is the humour that is up front. In addition to these 'workmen' (regulars) we have spivs being chased by cops, a couple of guys with step ladders who appear in the stand, with a supervisor, and pretend to clean a non-existent window, a posse of St Trinian's schoolgirls with school Ma'am and so on. Love it!

...and the most stupid waste of precious track time - especially for paying spectators stuck out on the track, well away from the chicane to the start finish line with nothing to look at. Same applies for the 15 minute Stirling Moss tributes prior to or straight after the Moss procession. Lord March could just as easily have paid his tribute whilst the cars were circulating.
Sunday:
9:00am - 9:25am - Chichester cup, FJ.
9:45am - 10:10am motorbikes
10:25am - pedal cars
10:50am Track parade - Eroica Brittania Cycle Moment
11:30am - 11:55am - Richmond Trophy (old F1)
12:20pm - 12:45pm - Brookland's Trophy (Pre war sports cars).
1:00pm - Track parade - Victory Parade
2:00pm - Track parade & tribute to Stirling Moss.
2:30pm - 3:30pm RAC TT.
So look at the time when there are NO real cars racing on track. From track opening to 12 noon, just 50 minutes and by 2:30pm, 75 minutes, by which time, if it is cool and damp or even worse, wet, if you leave your paid for, roving grandstand seat, especially at the end of the straight you can't get back in again as there may well be a long queue! If it is fine and you have managed a position on the front row, you daren't leave it, as there are umpteen rows of people behind ready to grab your place.
Don't get me wrong, I love Goodwood, but I'm not keen on hanging around looking at bare tar seal for hours. Next time, I think it will be Friday only.

Yep. One of Colin Chapman's least effective cars in period. They seem to have got them sorted now, as one or two of them are going well. I think Tiff Needell had a good finish in one, Goodwood 2016.

I have just purchased some new picture software that I will have a play with. You probably won't notice any difference to my posts but it does give the ability to remove unwanted objects, so we'll see.

Grab a saloon. Slap on a fatter wheels and tyres; lower it; stick on some race numbers and you have a car that looks like a racer. Breathe on the engine and mechanicals and you actually have a racer.

Final batch from Goodwood - for now anyway! Hope you didn't get too bored with them. Not much on the horizon, so I may have to do some more scanning of old stuff - or take a break.
Friday highlight was being able to take photographs from the Chicane grandstand. (No access on my roving stand ticket ticket possible Saturday or Sunday). The stewards kept me away from the fence, so 99% of the chicane pics were indeed from the grandstand.

Some access to the paddock is restricted to paddock pass holders where the dress code applies. This area was accessible to all.

Final two pics represent what made the weekend so special for me. "The Owlet", as mentioned before was a real hoot. Sounded fantastic, driven with great verve and humbled far more expensive machinery, in the hands of Patrick Blakeney-Edwards particularly, but also Mini ace, Nick Swift. Every lap in the dry practice or the wet race had me grinning from ear to ear. I don't think that has ever happened before - other than 'Skidmark' Parsons TR7 V8 at Taupo in the damp.

Final pic had to be a BRM. I was indoctrinated into ERA then later, BRM, from birth as Dad was a huge fan, being very patriotic. The incentive to get to Goodwood for the BRM celebration was huge and despite 100's of obstacles, was well worth it. Although there are currently several celebrations of BRM's 1962 World Championship win, seeing and hearing several V16's on track at Goodwood was unforgettable.
The damp/wet Sunday morning race for front engined GP cars was won by the appropriately numbered P25 BRM owned by Robs Lamplough and driven by Ben Mitchell.

I couldn't finish Goodwood without a massive thank you to Tim Hill of HRC for his assistance and my poor long suffering wife, who was stuck on her own in Auckland under lockdown, scared that I'd catch covid whilst away, and that I'd be stranded in the UK, unable to get back and into an MIQ spot. MIQ for two weeks and an additional $3,100 was something I could have done without and having to fly straight through in both directions, for the first time ever, wasn't my first choice either.
The solo trip was still enjoyable for me and being able to selfishly spend time at Curborough (despite the painful fall day 1!), the Ambergate museum, Bourne museum (for the Raymond May's room) the Caister museum, Goodwood and the Haynes museum, was appreciated.
Whether or not I'll ever get back to Goodwood is debatable, but I hope that by showing so many photographs of the trip, it may just inspire some of you to make the effort. It is well worth it.

Personally a great thanks to you Ray for posting these. It keeps me coming back to TRS every day just for your contributions.
It was great to see you at Curborough, distressing that you were hurt, but a great test for the first aiders too.
As an aside I see the Steve is posting more and more on Facebook, why not here I wonder, where it can be seen for posterity rather than just drifting down the pages.

As you say, Facebook posts sink into obscurity after a while. I'm just grateful for this platform so that there is a point to saving and scanning photographs, otherwise they'd just be totally wasted.
Maybe in the future, people will look back to sites like this for nostalgic and historical purposes?
Just two of the 750+ photographs I've lodged with Alamy for sale, have actually sold! Far better that they are shown on here for a larger audience.
Incidentally, the two that have actually been purchased. A vintage Aston Martin at Donington 2014 and a 2002 shot of Tony Brooks in a Vanwall at the Festival of Speed.

I have noticed this trending towards Facebook within another motoring forum and this is a common negative trend, even though my view is that Facebook is a paddock for sheep. Unfortunately it is difficult to come up with counter measures.
However for a start a change of title could assist in picking up reader members. E.G. "Motorsports NZ Network" or whatever copy rights dependent, could render the site useful to clubs as a means of widespread contact. Google would surely collect more possible readers. The existing title could tend towards attracting deer stalkers, but has no practical value. The site is in fact obscure and it was only by accident that I came here, despite having been active on three other motoring forums.

In an effort to be of assistance, I have presented Google with every key word and word group which I would expect a person searching to use, and as expected was unable to locate this site. This was anticipated, as there is no key word within the title in respect of the site subject matter, which Google, powerful as it may be, can latch onto. I would be interested to try an example in respect of what you advise.
Furthermore when attempting to interest others in the "Roaring Season", I have found it difficult to make sense when quoting the name/title involved. The site is in fact, on the face of it, obscure. LOL

As a fairly recent arrival here myself, I'd point out that probably the best historic motor racing forum in the world - The Nostalgia Forum - is in exactly the same boat. But between them TNF and TRS are quoted many times when you try and google the history of any particular type or model of race car. Both are now invaluable resources. Changing the name of either is probably now impossible.
If you switch your search to the 'images' option, Trevor, rather than relying on the text, you might have more success. I typed in Morrari NZ and got 4 TRS images in the first 13.
I agree with Greg T, too late now to change it, but yes, the title is a little obscure.

Sadly, you have confirmed that from a practical point of view, the site is totally obscure. LOL
Last Sunday, the MGCC had their last Pukekohe track day but the weather wasn't the best, so no vintage cars there at all. It wasn't all MGs but enough pics to load up here for a few days. If you don't care for British cars and MG's, you'll have to wait a while until I get back to trawling through scans of older stuff.

I left at just after 1pm into a 3km two lane traffic queue heading north at 8kph, but nowhere near as long as the queue heading south. The queue heading north not helped by the those dawdling through the 70kph limit at 21kph when it was down to 1 lane. The 'road works' appeared to be work on the adjacent railway line.
Look at the space ahead of the leading vehicle and the 'road works' to the right.

A very special car/driver combination. Lee Warn is wheelchair bound; found an MX5 that was way past its best; sourced bits and pieces to get it up to scratch and with a team of volunteers, has had it fitted with hand controls. There is a fund raising effort going on at the moment and I'll publish details later - or maybe it needs a separate thread?

Er, not quite Oldfart. Self funded, yes, as are most in the ERC Series, but plenty carry stickers of one sort or another, but don't get paid.

The background of the Spitfire in previous post is that it was built by Morley Faulkner who was part of the team that built the original Le Mans and Macau Spitfires. This car shown is as close as possible in many ways to the originals.

Ken - the numbering of all my images is: year (175 = 1975) Month (08) day (24) and either a sequence, film number or car number.
So Tony Brise was demonstrating the Embassy/Hill 24th August 1975. Mallory Park.
Not sure which car it was. Was it the latest Hill (GH) or an earlier one? I'd be surprised if they thought it was worthwhile firing up the latest F1 car for three demo laps.

Rather ironic that you saw Tony on August 24th, I was a Long Beach Sept. 26 - 28th and again at Riverside on October 26th and then he died on Nov. 29th 1975. (One month apart on each occasion)
I have a signed book by David Tremayne of what truly was a "Lost Generation" of wonderful British drivers who died in tragic circumstances way too young.

Which car is your point of reference?
Gordon Brown's car would have been one of the first, if not the first, post war special built and used as an ordinary road car. When built it was his sole means of transport and notably served as an earth mover in respect of his first house. Economy was of the essence. LOL He most certainly headed the Ford ten brigade. Bucklers were distant on the horizon.

I had custody of the GBS MK9894 in post 4460 for some time after the owner had given up on the Corvair transaxle breaking one too many times. Yet another of my "unfinished projects".
Maybe a different G Brown as the chap I bought it from in Green Bay would not, I think have been old enough to be the same man, maybe wrong, as usual.

Simply because the owner used his initials, in exactly the same way as Gordon did. My first sports car bought in 1967 and built in Gisborne was a GBL special, same reason.
Unless someone Copyright's or Patents something, anyone can use the name. Try using 'Harrods' on your shop front even if your name is 'Harrod' and see what happens.

Well, 2022 wasn't one to add much to the library. No Leadfoot. Local Caffeine & Classics no more. Not many race meetings attended nor car shows, museums etc.
I still have a fair few negatives to scan but the 'undated and not ready to file' folder continues to grow.
As an aside, my UK based son bought me a subscription to what is in effect the means to publish your own (life) story and have it converted to hard copy book form, with up to 480 pages including photographs.
There are one or two on here who should consider joining up and getting 'their story' in book form. Although aimed at your life with questions asked by the initiator, there is far too much material on here that ideally needs to be collated.

I have my ticket for Saturday! Doing the 'Silverstone Experience' on the Friday afternoon.
I'm spending a fair bit of time going back to my earliest films to scan them. In the past, It has been a bit of a scattergun approach just scanning occasional pics for variety.
It has reached the time where I need to check every single frame and some images have been retained, despite slight damage to some of the negatives or even slightly out of focus. This has included many non-car pics.
So now an occasional dip into the past. Just about all will initially be of the UK as I didn't land here until January 1983.
Note that Denny's name always was spelt incorrectly on Syd Taylor's Lola!

Dad's old Singer coupe was scrapped to keep this 1934 Singer Le Mans on the road. This car still exists in Norfolk and I tracked down the owner just a few days ago. All I did was type the numberplate into Google and followed the leads from there.

Ray, ERC, you can make that Lola's plural as was also mispelt on Sid / Syd Taylors T70 Coupe as well
- and they carried that over to the 1;43 models I have of both cars..
- maybe it was his signwriter, but would have thought he should get the Boss's name correct as " Sidney "

Celebrated my birthday yesterday with a half day at Pukekohe for the last classic car meeting.
Mixed feelings. Frustrated that there was only one food outlet and the queue too long to make it worthwhile. Just 1 male WC in the paddock. Where is all the infrastructure for the cars going? Garages, over bridges, Armco concrete barriers, race control buildings etc., etc?
Pity there isn't a proposed new permanent track in the greater Auckland area. Whenuapai would have been ideal.

I just hope like hell that the concrete barriers and fences don't end up at HD. They ruined Pukekohe from a spectators point of view and would do the same at HD.
Totally agree Nigel. There is no need for them. It seems that they never really consider spectators with cameras. Number 2 reason for Goodwood being top of my favourite circuits list - excellent viewing on every corner.
OK if the spectators are raised above the track and can see all of the car beyond, but if all you can see is a helmet, or through a wire fence, waste of time.
Maybe better they use the concrete as median barriers on some of our dual carriageways.

ERC, my first car was an 850 cc Austin Se7en - Mini a 1960 model in early 1967 until late 1968, and my third car 1971 - 74 was also an 850 cc Austin Mini by name and I had it fitted with wider - reverse rim Cooper S wheels made by Dunlop - so similar but 12,000 miles away. They were great fun, needed regular attention, but Fun ..

Ray drove my car at Whangarei, (January 2000) as his own car along with many others, was excluded by MSNZ the day before the event. His lap times a were a little quicker than mine, put down to his lighter weight... and his difficulty in reaching the brake pedal, which was wound back as far as it would go. He did a Scott Dixon and drove with a pillow behind him.
