There were difficulties that day with entries not having been put on line, but MyLaps was working during the day. I didn't have a list of entries to be able to call batches to the assembly area pre start. More difficult than usually, but as they say, "All in the best possible taste" and everybody got more runs than usual, all 87 of them! I got a cheer for harrying them!

At most hotels around the Goodwood area, there are usually cars of interest and this Lagonda was snapped early as I set off for the final day.
Sunday, all track pics are from races (or parades), though one or two may have been taken on the formation lap. My philosophy is that with classic racing, you take a pic when you can which is why if I were to choose just one day to attend, it would be Friday.

Somewhat out of sequence, but on the Tuesday prior to Goodwood, one of custodians, or members of the Bourne Historical Society, opened up the 'Baldock Mill' museum just for me, so that I could browse the 'Raymond Mays' room. This was very much appreciated so not only did I purchase a couple of ERA stickers and a book, and make a donation, but I also presented them with an original print of Dad's, showing Raymond Mays, Peter Berthon and Humphrey Cook in the paddock at Donington.

Monday September 20th. After the 8:30am pre-departure covid test in Bournemouth, that relieved my credit card of 189GBP to get a same day result, I picked up my youngest brother and we headed off to the Haynes Museum - for my third visit. I was pleased to see that several exhibits had been shuffled around since my previous visits and if nothing else, makes photographs slightly different even if the subject matter is the same.
Since the closure of the Donington Racing Car Museum late 2018, the whereabouts of many of the exhibits isn't known - well not to me anyway, but part of the extensive Williams F1 collection has found a home here.

Brendon Hartley shared this Mini but it was one of the slowest in the field and no matter how good the driver, you can't overcome the lack of power in such a closely fought class. I thought that maybe Brendon might have scored a drive in one or two of the other classes. Maybe no-one knew he'd be available?

One of the reasons I was determined to get to Goodwood this year, was the celebration of BRM's 70 years. Dad was fiercely patriotic and backed ERA before the war and BRM after, and I suppose I inherited my love of both from him. Being named after Raymond Mays may also have had a lot to do with it.
The BRM parade included several cars with BRM engines in addition to examples of most models including the Hall & Hall 2021 BRM V16.
The fearsome 8 litre BRM P154 sports restored by the Hepworths.

I have slowed a bit, despite a whole pile ready for uploading to TRS.
I have elected to put some photographs from my collection up for sale via the Alamy website, in the hope that I may supplement my pension! I don't expect to get rich and with almost 300 million pics offered for sale on Alamy, even a few pounds now and again helps.
It is quite a time consuming process and they have to pass Alamy's rigid QC system and be large enough (many of my older digital pics fail on that score), before being offered for sale. Rest assured that I'm not deserting TRS, but uploaded photographs on here are relatively small images.
Choosing which photographs to upload is something I'm working through, as I have to try and anticipate which photographs are saleable as opposed to ones I like.

Uploading to Alamy has been a bit of a mission with one or two rejected as being too small, and one batch rejected because one wasn't as sharp as it could have been. I now know that I have to check them at 100% before uploading... Luckily the bazooka lens pics pass the size criteria but most pics taken with the earlier DSLR camera won't pass.

When you hit 'reply with quote' the whole of the reply will be included, including the pics - which are 'attachments'.
The way the HTML (hot metal mark up language) system works isn't too difficult, compared to most computer languages) but everything in the reply is between quote tags.
ie [QUOTE ] Blah blah blah - close the quote with a back slash [/QUOTE ]
The same logic then applies to each of the pics within those quote tags.
[ATTACH=CONFIG ]554789[/ATTACH ]
[ATTACH=CONFIG ]554790[/ATTACH ]
and so on.
To delete any part of the post you are quoting, simply delete BETWEEN THE TAGS.
So as above, you can delete [ATTACH=CONFIG ]554789 [/ATTACH ] which will then leave picture 2.
In days past, to create a webpage, you had to create it, by typing up ALL the tags from scratch, before software came along and did it for you.
You may have noticed that when I post, the pics are usually centralised. That is achieved by using another HTML tag.
At the point at which you want it centralised:
[CENTER ] (without the space of course) and when you get to the end, you need to close the instruction with the backslash
[/CENTER ]

Good to see the Derek Drinkwater Le Mans Cadillac replica of the 1950 Cunningham entry called " Petit Pataud " ! He also has built a replica of " Le Monstre " the 1950 Cadillac chassis with the Grumman aluminium body - one ugly car IMHO !, but I like it.

Number 77 A40 above is one of the immaculately Jordan prepared cars. The other grey one looked rather second hand in the rear after Goodwood. I love going to their facility to deliver the seats (NZ made) which they insist on in all their cars, customer or their own. The grey car is now pristine again.

Racetech seats seem to have a worldwide following - I even have them in the Magnette, and as Chicane and Racetech work well together, I had the covers embroidered by Chicane before the seats were covered.

That is at Caister Castle museum. They also have the H16 engine that powered Jim Clark's Lotus to the only H16 win. The BRM fraternity quite rightly, aren't happy that these exhibits are simply deteriorating but the previous owner of the museum refused to sell them, or the Lotus. As there are only 3 single seaters in the museum, (the other is a Cooper Mk5) I agree. They need to go to a better home, yet the rest of the Caister Museum is excellent and still expanding.
Does anyone know anything about this F5000 Lola, snapped in the paddock at the Ganley Festival 2015? It appears to have a Swedish flag on it.

For some strange reason, some of the pics won't upload. Ho hum.
Only yesterday, did I manage to complete the filing of the pics I took whilst away. All now safely copied to a separate hard drive. Since hooking up to Alamy, I have become far more ruthless in deleting those, that when viewed at 100%, aren't sharp enough. Despite an auto focus lens, the combination of shutter speed, aperture and focus accuracy, can sometimes be less than perfect. There again, with professional quality lenses and cameras costing many times what I paid, I can't complain. Just note that the static shots are usually taken with a modest pocket Canon.

Seems so long ago already, but getting there early meant no traffic queues at all. Goodwood of course.
Towards the end of the day - and the following days, the badly swollen ankle was taking its toll. This may well turn out to be my last 3 day visit, but I wouldn't totally rule that out. My advice to anyone more interested in the cars than the actual races, but with limited time or cash would be to visit on the Friday. You can still go to 'Over the Road' on the Thursday evening for free as long as you have any day ticket.

What ever happened to your MG Magnette Ray?
The Magnette has been road legal since 2015 - but unfinished! Life seems to keep getting in the way. I have had to do a fair bit on the house. Just coming up to having clocked 1000kms - which is not a lot. Currently needing a WoF which I'll get sorted next week.

One of the (many) non-essential jobs on the list is to modify the front bumpers to extend them rearwards, as it will look better. I intend to get the (fibreglass) bumpers chrome wrapped.
Some work has recently been done on the (fibreglass) boot lid and an ex Riley Elf locking latch fitted. Neither boot nor bonnet will be painted until I'm totally satisfied with the fit and finish.
The radiator grille surround is a temporary one, as I have another built up with stainless mesh. Still debating as to whether or not to leave that as is, or spray the mesh black. Any comments on that?

Running wide at Madgwick exit and clouted the bank. It was only lap 2 of practice. Red flagged.
Delayed proceedings for about half an hour or so as they had to rebuild the tyre wall. Always sad to see cars damaged.

The Radford Lotus 62. Lotus only made two 62's, one of which was in Gold Leaf colours and the other bought by Jazz man Chris Barber and painted in his usual pale lime green, driven by Dave "Run Baby Run" Brodie.
Brodie tells the story of the night before the Nurburgring race, where Chris amazed him by accurately calculating the 150mph top speed. He took the tyre circumference, axle/dif ratio and top engine revs in top gear and came up with the figure - in his head!

To judge by chassis nos elsewhere on the web, the Dino is the replica - not the ex Pat Hoare car.
The 500/625 is the ex Peter Whitehead car - which I saw win the 56 Lady Wigram trophy. My first Wigram.

Great photo as always ERC,
Interested in this group photo of " Production Saloons " at Goodwood - all from the late 1950's early 1960's and appear not to have Roll Cages.
Allan Dick was recently lamenting that these cars in New Zealand, are not seen without all the " modern " safety features.
Would be interested to know the Rules for the class of racing.

Roger, you ask about the rules for the saloons. As I now supply several of them with product I asked that a while back. There is no simple answer, it depends on which events you want to run.
FIA rules for example on an A40 has to run lever arm rear shocks as that's what they had. Goodwood cars are allowed more latitude. Some series specify the tyre, others only the size. A number of my clients have multiple cars so that they can participate in several categories.
I can see cages in all those cars, just not the jungle gym that MSNZ specifies in their need to be better than what the rest of the world under FIA accepts. Diagonal is visible n both the A35 and Zephyr.
High back seats are visible too. Driver safety is a very important thing in this part of the world.
Thanks Rhys. I have always maintained that safety is the responsibility of the driver, so MSNZ's attitude isn't conducive to getting more cars on track. Applies also to rules regarding protective clothing.
Those pics from the Pre 1958 St Mary's Trophy saloons means a great variety of cars and the occasional roll over hasn't to the best of my knowledge, ever resulted in a serious injury, with or without a cage. The cars are steel bodied, not space frames with fibreglass panels, but MSNZ doesn't accept that as a valid reason for a different requirement for a cage. Yet, ironically, you can still run a standard car in NZ without a cage, regardless of its performance, but modify even an A35, and the rules change.

I bought this hot Cooper S about September/October but couldn't sell the 998cc Cooper behind, so I reluctantly sold it back to the previous owner. That Cooper S gave more smiles per mile than any other car I have ever owned, even though I only owned it for a couple of months. The Cooper had a clubman front grafted on after a season 1 ding at Silverstone in 1971.

Thanks Ray for another trip down memory lane. That particular Race Car Show at Olympia in 1973 was also visited by Nigel Watts and myself.
I remember that XJ 13 now doing demonstration laps during the lunch break at Silverstone at the 1973 British GP.
Where was the Trojan T101 captured ? That car was the last race winner built by Trojan Racing.
As I have mentioned before, they never had any success after I left in Dec. 1973 !

I do have a (poor) pic of the XJ13 doing the demo laps. Not good enough to put on here.
The Racing Car Show was my annual opportunity to spend more than I could afford at the 'Chater & Scott' book stall. (Cash was king back then - no credit cards for youngsters). I still have the programmes. Back then, I had no flash for the camera but one year I borrowed a friend's Rolleiflex and flash (bulbs of course).
I used to stay at BP House (Baden Powell, not British Petroleum) on the corner of Queens Gate Mews, Kensington. They had a very good cafeteria and accommodation for Scouts was quite cheap. Getting around London was such a doddle with the underground and an A -Z.
Queens Gate Mews is home to at least one classic car specialist.

That helmet in post 4203 I would hazard a guess as Duncan Pittaway.
I wondered about that too, as it didn't look like Rowan Atkinson in either photograph. Must see if I can find the results.

I have been looking at the lead car in post 4201 that you have as a Maserati. The badge on the front is not a Maserati. I think I know what it is, but DVLA shows it as an "Alton Sports, 1958 3781 cc" which wasn't what I thought.
Correct again Rhys! Thanks. I must admit I had made a mental note to check that one, but the mental capacity must be fading. I suppose that wading through several thousand pics, it was inevitable that one or two would end up wrongly filed. Should have gone to Spec Savers.

Only because I was curious Ray! The body on the Alton looks very like a Mistral and the badge on the front very like a Buckler one!
The badge is in fact 'Jaguar'! I think it is a fair bit bigger than a Mistral, but agree, it certainly looks like one.

Arthur Nash (Turner BMC) rebuilt the Mini engine I bought to NZ that eventually passed through the hands of Mike Lucas.
Arthur claimed he was a distant relative of the NZ politician, Walter Nash. Pic taken 24th February at a CUAC Mallory Park sprint, that unfortunately, didn't include the hairpin.

Back in 1966, when NZ's 20 year-old petrolheads were hooning around in cars, those of us in the UK couldn't afford to run cars, as the compulsory insurance and low youth wages made it impossible, so sitting at the kitchen table with pencil and paints was an alternative.
The monthly model car magazine 'Miniature Auto' had excellent plan drawings of cars and these were used as a base. (I still have the magazines!)
If I have shown these before, I apologise. They were painted on card and stuck to the bedroom wall with blu-tack, so they haven't aged too well. Back then, cars were still individually recognisable - and you didn't need to be a graphic artist to reproduce the commercial signage.
A year later, working up to 90 hours week, which continued for another six years, the brushes laid dormant and did so until 1999!

Pristine now! It was fixed very quickly at Jordan Racing team.
Yet more BRMs and no apologies from me for that! The 70 year BRM demonstration was one of the major incentives to travel in 2021, despite the obvious travel problems, difficulties and of course, costs. As things stand right now, I'm not sure I'll get back to Goodwood again, but we'll just have to see, as it is without a doubt, the most photogenic classic race event any where.
If I do get back, 2024 may be the next opportunity, as I have ruled it out for this year and 2023 we have a world cruise planned.
My guess is that they may honour Graham Hill this year, 60 years after his World Championship win, so an opportunity for BRM's again!

1975 - Dudley & District Car Club's 'Tocky Bonk' trial, sharing lodger Mike's 1116cc Mini. I only joined Dudley as at that time, the Nottingham Sports Car Club weren't members of the Association of Midland Motor Clubs. When I took over as NSCC competition Secretary after they ceased all involvement in circuit racing, I got the NSCC into the AMMC and instigated the NSCC Sprint Championship, that took off very quickly, as the points system wasn't based on times, but on attendance and also the number of people beaten in class. The 200GBP prize fund was split according to points earned and started at the minimum points earned for attendance at a specified number of events.

It went very well Bruce. Then Alan fitted the engine to a Brabham single seater - and added Nitrous Oxide! Sadly he passed away several years ago.
I took more photographs at Goodwood on the Friday than the other two days, and it was also the only day I could get to the chicane grandstand, so I made the most of it.

2004 Pukekohe. When the Leisurertime Series as was, got too big, it was firstly split into saloons and sports/GT. Tracer saloons sponsored by Greg Bellingham, Leisuretime Sports/GTs (Geoff Bonham). However, speed differentials in both groups caused major issues hence the move to a speed group split, which was easier to manage.
