My pleasure Bruce. Yes, it takes time, but at least it seems to be appreciated.

Now we are effectively in the 'off season', I'm now very busy building up my 'memorabilia and books for sale' web pages, starting with pages specifically for ERA, BRM memorabilia and race programmes. Time to not just declutter, but to make sure stuff goes to a good home and not into a rubbish skip. There is a lot to list so progress is slow.

The problem with modern sports racing cars is that without a programme, identification is totally reliant on the programme. Never had this problem with Austin Healeys, Triumphs and MGs, not to mention the smaller manufacturers.

Caffeine and Classics end of May was not exactly blessed with good weather, so the turnout at 9:15am wasn't as high as usual. Cars continued to trickle in steadily, but nothing like the sunny summer meets. Full marks for those who did make the effort.

Hint, if you park with the nose towards the motorway, the sun is at the rear of the car so taking front three-quarter photographs is more of a challenge.

Car #58 above is the Terra FX. Similar to some of the "twin boom" record breaker cars of the 50s and 60s in that the driver sits in a pontoon on one side and the motor and transmission (Suzuki 1300 Hyabusa from memory) are in the pontoon on the other side. In this case the whole underside is a big ground effects venturi.

Just for a change, and before the June Caffeine & Classics meet, I fished out Dad's Merit (plastic) car kits. Unfortunately, one or two need a bit of remedial work so when I have sourced a new tube of glue, I'll put them back together and photograph them too. Thanks to Bill H, I have started bidding on EBAY on an unbuilt kit of the Talbot Lago, now under the SMER label. No doubt I'll be grabbing the Alfa too, the only ones Merit did with engine detail. Yes, spoked wheels are rubbish, but at 7/6 in old money, pretty good kits. The ones with engine detail were a little more expensive - but all were well outside my 2/- a week pocket money.

The BRM was brush painted... Remember that spray cans weren't available back then, so it was a case of Brasso on the bare plastic, or gambling on enamels that took hours to dry.

Great a Singer Sports - were they called a "Le Mans" believe or not I have a ' Dublo Dinky ' " 00 " scale model of that.
Dinky introduced Dublo [ 00 = double O ] for their 00 Railways and also to combat " Matchbox ", don't think that lasted too long as Hornby got taken over.
Then later on Mattel seemed to have picked most of small model and railway manufacturers..

Yes Roger. I had that model too. Singer Roadster 1500 I believe. Sold it, along with a good percentage of my Dinky collection to finance a cruising habit...

Now started listing a whole swag of stuff. Time to downsize the various piles and collections, so as not to burden the surviving family when I do finally shuffle off. Part of the 'Advance Care Planning' philosophy.

I haven't exactly got one foot in the grave just yet, but after my wife's heart attack a year ago, it caused a radical shake up and an 'Advanced Care Planning' session highlighted just what others may have to deal with.

Dealing with my parent's stuff in the UK was a major mission and although there were some collectible treasures, it was several week's hard work.

Quite frankly, I don't want to burden the family here and there has to come a time when you have to sit back and take stock. Having already taken stock, I realise that even listing the stuff is a huge time consuming task, let alone disposing of it!

I have too few days in the UK as it is and I seem to be filling my diary rather quickly, but at least I should have a swag of pictures to share when I do finally return, as I'm away again for a week with my wife, her daughter and another lady, just 2 days after getting back to NZ.

Yup. Still here Roger. C & C is still enjoyable - and free, which Goodwood definitely isn't! I'll probably be there earlyish. Might take the MGF for a WoF and bring it down, but I really do need to sell it, as I just don't use it enough. 1998 and only 70,000kms on the clock.

Then things went to custard. Nose to tail into the Pukekohe hairpin, obviously every one hard on the brakes, coming down from over 110mph (or almost 120mph in my case!) but someone (in a red MGB sports) lost it on the exit, so there was a nose to tail crunch, which didn't exactly help my fibreglass bodywork as I hit Dave Mallin's steel bodied MGB.

A somewhat lopsided result which not for the last time, demanded some serious fibreglass work on the front end. The next time involved avoiding that Triumph (I think it was that one) which was merrily spinning on its roof, on the racing line, in the middle of what was by then, the John Deere mountain. But that is another story.

Not as upset as I was Paul! Split second decision. Hit an inverted spinning car and risk injuring the driver, or brake whilst cornering on the limit and spin into the concrete... On a permanent circuit, there should always be some wiggle room, which is why several drivers now refuse to race at Pukekohe.

It's more upsetting when no one was at fault and you smash both ends of your car - and you can't just nip down to Pick a part - and no one has any body moulds... Ironically, Andy Culpin had approached me a matter of days earlier, asking if he could take some moulds off the car as he had a six litre Chevvy engine and wanted to build a Marcos chassis/body. Little did we know then that he'd buy the ex UK LM500.

- 147 Peter Barnard Escort 1600 ( was neck and neck with my brother back then early 2000's, but we've kept developing his car, had a good test day yesterday and found some good improvements) .

Car 275 (Red MGB sports, is the V8 now owned and raced by Grant Kern as 739.
Rob Mostern still owns the XJ6 Jaguar #23, and as stated earlier, I think Greg Bellingham still has the XJS.
Mike John may or may not still have the Viva (he sold the Mk 2 Jag to Peter Sundberg).
I haven't seen the TRiumph #131 for a while.
No idea what happened to Murray Baber's MG BV8.
I think Greg Sutton still has #52 Datsun Z.
The other red MGB sports (ex Bainbridge) is now owned by Glen Thompson and may be back.
The centre orangy red Datsun Z is now with Earl Cruickshank.
No idea what happened to Malcolm Brown's silver Datsun Z - could be Roman's?
Green TR4 was driven by Paul Reynolds, but not sure whether he owned it or not.
Car #40, Geoff Bonham's MGB is back with me... again. The Marcos is still with me but what with the MGB, the Magnette and an MGF, something really needs to go!

Most complete and roadworthy is the MGF, followed by the still unfinished, but road legal Magnette.

The MGB is undergoing some light TLC at the moment to get it back to road legal. The Marcos needs TLC too.

Jeez! If MSNZ follows suit, I will have lost the use of my left hand for nothing and a reversal to common sense will upset me even more!

For those not in the know, the builder of my roll cage (and myself), in a 60 year old, steel bodied car didn't submit the paperwork to get the roll cage finally signed off in time, even though built to a MSNZ design and prior permission had been granted to go ahead and paint it.

The rules changed from 38mm to 40mm for the main hoop (which is what Oldfart is referring to) and MSNZ demanded an engineer's report for what they then deemed a 'free form cage' and no amount of pleading would appease them. They wanted it removed. Safety equipment removed. Get that!

The MSNZ test requirements were so excessive that the cage needed a load of extra bars and even their own cages wouldn't have passed the same test. At this point, the car had already been painted and trimmed.

With advice from a respected scrutineer, I then embarked on a cunning plan to hide the front part of the cage, as if it could not be seen, then it did not exist, as it did not impinge on the driver/front passenger area.

Whilst squirming around fitting a roof lining, I severely damaged my spine which killed the nerves to my left hand. Just to rub salt into the wounds, LVVTA demanded the cage be left in place and passed it. By the way, this is a modified road car, not a race car...

Oldfart's son, an engineer, and Dave Silcock (of Jaguar fame), amongst several others, were adamant that the rules were ridiculous but MSNZ wouldn't budge. The test for a free form cage took no account of the bodyshell it was attached to, so whether fitted to a Centurion tank or a fibreglass bodied car, the test was the same.

So effectively, I now carry a permanent disability and my retirement ambition of learning several Scott Joplin rags on the piano was shattered, not to mention the difficulty of even the most basic of two handed maintenance tasks.

Rant over and no apologies if people were already aware of this saga.

During our factory move, the week or so before, I had my left big toe crushed under the hydraulic ramp of our removal truck, when a 14 year old pressed the down button as I was lifting off a sewing machine...

Note the lack of headlamp covers... Replacements were eventually made by the McCarthy's at Plastic Construction, but out of acrylic rather than Perspex. You can see that the bonnet had been patched up by then, but obviously, a respray was beyond my budget.

The short Taupo track never really suited the Marcos, as with that very heavy cast iron straight six up front, I can't even remember getting into 4th gear - or if I did, it was only for about two seconds a lap!

Despite the bad luck with accidents, the original Pukekohe with the long straight suited the standard car's characteristics as it has excellent brakes and the final corner could be taken flat out - provided there was no car on its roof of course...

Thanks Ray yes it was good to talk after 5 attempts meet both here several times and at Chelsea Walsh and I had a chat with Kevin and his wife as you were leaving.
Please you sold the MGF - gone to a good home.
Must have been a dozen MX5's this time about 5 NA series several NB's and a few later ones - one a Black one with an Aston Martin style grille and a name on the back Mazdarati - it look stylish.
No Austin Healeys that I saw quite a few Triumphs though GT6, Heralds and I think a Vitesse that has been there before !!
Took quite few photos but will be a few days before they get downloaded.

Last outing for my low mileage MGF! Just about to leave when a couple showed interest. Took it for a test run, came back and all OK so the lady bought it.

I'll be taking it up to its new home Warkworth way on Tuesday. My wife rather unkindly said, 1 down, 6 to go... Then I pointed out that the six would include her Mini Cooper and leave us dependent on Goff's tram and Len's trainset, neither of which will be of any help to those of us living on the North Shore.

Yes good sale !!

Those queues I got the lights at Motorway Overbridge on Northcote Road about 9;40 spent nearly 10 minutes to just get to the entrance and was directed way down the back towards Westlake Girls.
The queue coming off the motorway from North was down the off ramp and the left hand [ kerb ] lane was at a standstill.

Perhaps Protecta and the organising Guys and Girls need to have signs down the various roads that lead to the venue.
Lots of non " C and C " vehicles stuck in the Traffic.

Well worth the wait and the visit

Back to 2003 and the bad smash that effectively ruined all the body work that had already been done on the car! No one's fault. That is racing but I do sincerely believe that having concrete lining a purpose built race track, with no escape options when things go to custard is a bit dumb.

After the mechanical work had been done, some months later I attacked the bonnet which had never sat properly anyway so I hacked off the nose!

You can see from the purple lines that all was not very square.

At that point, I was going to update the front with the later, deeper shape and I was well advanced - and Rhys, please don't laugh at my attempts to construct a new front end... The green shaded area on the plywood hinges would have been the deeper shape.

But then I changed my mind and opted to stick with the original shape. It may not be as efficient and looks odd when cresting the brow of turn 3 at HD, but hey, that is the way it is.

By the way, what appears to be a lump underneath is in fact the base of the driver's floor which sits lower than the chassis rails at sill height. It is from this angle that the underside of the nose should be deeper and line up with lower part of the sill.

Now I have sold the MGF, I'll shift the MGB GT down to Hampton Downs and bring the Marcos back home and fettle it ready for a possible sale. I've had it for 27 years and I'll be very, very sorry to see it go but the new HD directive is just another nail in the coffin of just going out for a track blast or even an occasional Classic Trial.

Believed to be the most raced Marcos Volvo 3 litre Volvo anywhere in the world! it has history. (Dr Jonathon Palmer did run a Ford V6 engined one and most of the cars racing in Historics are the early 1800cc 4 cylinder cars.)

Thanks Rhys, but what takes me weeks, months, or in the case of the Magnette, years to achieve, a pro would have had it all wrapped up in a few days! The joy of fibreglass. Don't like, it, cut it out and have a another go! Not sitting well, cut out a vee and reglass it.

There is a link between this Mini and my Magnette. At the time this was taken, 2003 both owned by Don Bell. Always interesting to see what is in and around By'Gone Autos.

Yes, I did own it,went to Brisbane area Australia he bought the trailer also,the plan was to keep the trailer and look at buying a Formula Ford,spoilt my plans!Visited the car few years back,he had the motor out ,looked a bit sad,he had also imported a Mistral from NZ and had that there.

Funny you should say that Paul, as not only were Dave and Richard Scimitar and Marcos owners, but also Phil Jackson - who I have never met, but he was restoring a V4 Marcos to an incredibly high standard. Good pics!

Caught up with Dave (& Carole) last month, as they are regulars at MGCC meetings and events - and one of their daughters was best buddies with my wife's daughter. Small world.

Yes, Scimitars were running back in the days of the annual Le Mans team races, so were Lotuses, Daimler SP250's, Morgans, Bucklers etc. and several others we no longer see out on track.

I may have posted it earlier but the reason 'Reliant' starts with an 'R' is because when Raleigh bicycles, who were making their 3 wheeler, stamped many components with an 'R' for Raleigh. When production ceased, to concentrate on bicycles, previous Raleigh managers involved with the car, bought up all the remaining stock and shifted production from Nottingham to Tamworth, and as the stock was stamped 'R', had to come up with an appropriate name.

Apologies to those who remember my earlier post - and some of these images have been posted before.

Terry's SE4. Could this be the same car as in Ross's post, with the small Union Jack flag on the radiator grille? It isn't in exactly same place, but near enough! Often it is small details like this that help with identification.

I need to clear a bit of a backlog of all the stuff ready to upload, as when I go away in a little over three weeks time, I will be taking rather a lot of photographs and based on my 2016 solo visit, it took me almost three months just to wade through them all, chuck out the duff ones and repeats, crop, collate and file, let along copy, shrink and upload to TRS. It will probably take even longer this time.

So I may be posting more than once a day.

Oh dear. Handed over my ten quid - somewhat reluctantly I might add - for Donington Museum. Having been a regular visitor since it opened in the mid 1970's. I left with a very heavy heart indeed.

For years, I have suggested that kiwis and other overseas visitors should make a point of visiting. Unless you are a devout McLaren, Williams or Force India fan, and maybe interested in Vanwalls and BRMs, what what was a 100% interesting museum, has now dropped to probably 25% of what it was.

Out of the five halls, two are for Kevin's military vehicles, (not for me) one hall is mainly McLaren, one mainly Williams and other modern F1 cars, leaving just one hall of slightly older single seaters - and even that is padded out with a Lotus Elan, MG and a 1927 Salmson...

So many cars gone and just 1 Lotus, 1 Ferrari no Coopers at all. Also gone, the Derby Maserati, Tec Mec, F500's, Ferguson, Porsches, one of the V16 BRM's - even the P25 BRM wasn't there, Cisitalia gone and the list goes on, and on.

So sad. Military and F1 or single seaters is not a good mix.

Had a sad email from Alan Horner (who is in GB) and was expecting to do the whole 3 days of Goodwood but has done his back in, so if anyone knows of anyone in the UK wanting to purchase tickets at face value... Saturday tickets sold out weeks ago.

Plenty to come Roger... However, I seem to have a (owner?) problem with the camera focus point moving. I need to have another read of the manual, as I unfortunately have to ditch what would have been excellent pics, as although I have it set for a single point focus, that point seems to move around at will, so I have several (far too many!) with in focus backgrounds but the subject is a bit fuzzy. Very frustrating. Difficult to tell at the time without wearing glasses and expanding the pic. The net result is a load of duff ones.

Pity, as watching the cars four wheel drift through Madgwick with the sun in exactly the right place is a dream position.

They sounded superb too! The green one on the left is I believe the ex Jack Sears' car. They were celebrating the first touring car season of 1958. Jack Sears famously won it after an equal points race off, in Riley 1.5s... Can't see that happening today.

The Sears 1958 cars were fantastic to watch at Goodwood and they didn't sound very standard at all! Personally, bog standard cars of that vintage aren't very appealing and although limiting modifications may keep costs down, purely from a spectator viewpoint, bog standard cars don't sound right or look right on a race track especially of that vintage.

The Hooter's series in NZ appears to be little more than a classic trial and maybe they need a class for period modified and a class for standard? Those 3 big Austins were very impressive on the track, as were several other cars, including the noisiest MG Magnette I have ever heard. Using cross ply tyres, there were many examples of four wheel drifts across several classes.

Plenty of pics now to be posted over the next few months but getting RSI from several long sessions of mouse work - not housework.

Incidentally Ken, Hexagon of Highgate actually built my Marcos! I have copies of the original build paperwork.

(Posted previously) Judging by the seating position and maybe the mirrors, it looks more like the dark green one, even though the colour in the black and white pic looks as though it was light green, but the wheels are smaller - a common complaint about several of today's 1930's cars is the wheel size not being original.

Grimsthorpe Castle Speed Trials, August 26th. The north midland's version of the Goodwood Festival of Speed it isn't - and never will be on several counts, but an entry of 50 cars and 50 motorbikes made for some interesting vehicles, if nothing else. Sadly, the weather wasn't kind. Viewing of the actual track was distant and appeared to be just one straight plus a long right hander, with spectators penned past the finishing line anyway.

It may become an annual event but at this stage, I wouldn't exactly be promoting it as a 'must attend' unless you are in the Lincolnshire area. A $40NZ (20 pounds) entry fee was a bit steep for what it was.

In regard the Ford, I would guess at relatively recent import. It seems that "BF" plates have been assigned as "age related" to quite a few cars of around that period. (My 23 Peugeot has one, so does the Peugeot Quadrilette further up the age.).
It stays light till after pub kick out time during the summer. It would be a great pub run car, maybe not, too much attention :)

Seeing as how "cars I hadn't heard of came up, how about a "Moline"?

You can see the remainder of that side of the hall, beyond the Trojan, leading to the Force India cars has a few more from the recent era, where I suspect many are now just on loan. In the past, one offs such as the Cosworth and Ferguson and many other low volume manufacturers were the highlights, as every car had character. I won't list all the cars that have disappeared as it just makes me more depressed that the museum is no longer the 'must visit' it once was.

I hope they haven't also gone and are merely in the workshops or with Hall & Hall but it was a large chunk from what was the only complete collection of BRM's anywhere.

Just found out that (ex Marcos racer!) Dr Jonathon Palmer's company is taking over the running of the Donington Museum at the end of the year. Let's just hope he can restore it to something like its former glory.

Maybe he can persuade Bernie Ecclestone to loan some of his collection - that really would be well worth a visit.

Next car related stop after Donington, was the British Heritage Museum at Gaydon, formerly the British Leyland museum, many years ago, when at Syon Park and home back then, as now, for many BL prototypes.

Since the shift to Gaydon, it has been renamed and expanded to cover other British makes, but as yet, I still haven't finished filing all the pics, but I did publish many from the museum a couple of years ago, so these will just be extras and will include several cars I photographed before.

Grimsthorpe Castle - the local meat products are amongst the best in the country and a bacon buttie first thing was a good start.

Motorway stops in the UK have improved considerably since the appalling stuff offered from 1959. Harry Ramsden's is best known as a fish and chip franchise, but I thought it somewhat ironic that they had a good continuous queue for their traditional British Breakfast - but the so called healthy option next door, didn't. HR's was quite a good breakfast too.

Goodwood 'across the road' has a huge range of food outlets and this is one I didn't sample.

But this is one I started at, on two of the three days. Excellent cheese on toast and a cup of coffee was just what I needed - and the next person on the queue was Kiwi... (Note the standard of dress.)

Simple tasty food - and an opportunity in NZ I am sure. Just the one option offered. Two slices of cooked to order toast per portion, topped with Cheddar and Parmesan - and the coffee was OK too - with two delightful young ladies doing the serving.

My favourite fish and chip outlet wasn't there this year and one that was, apparently caught fire on the Thursday...

Other good food was the Station café behind the start and finish stand with a superb toasted meatball sub and a stall selling fairly good Thai curry. Needless to say, prices are a bit on the high side, as is the case with any event of this nature.

Next stop after Gaydon was Malvern, the Morgan factory tour. Highly recommended as it is the polar opposite of visiting the Mini factory which I did in 2016. Mini is all about robots and technicians, whilst Morgan is all about real craftsmen plying their trade with hand tools. Mini, you can't take photographs. Morgan, no restrictions. I enjoyed both visits - but there again, I'm very much a shop floor person.

A two hour tour, with almost one hour of it devoted to an intro and a visit to the Morgan museum - all on site of course. There is also a decent café and a very good shop, selling all sorts of Morgan gear, from clothing to branded clotted cream shortbread.

Judging by the number of people doing the tours, Morgan are probably doing quite well out of it - and rightly so.

The current Morgan 3 wheeler is a runaway best seller. Original was shown as a bit of a laugh at a motorshow, they thought that maybe tops, they'd sell 200 of them. They took 200 orders at that show and have now manufactured over 2,500 of them!

Very popular amongst ex-motorcyclists and fascinating to hear that if you wear a crash helmet, it is classed as a motorbike, and don't need a seat belt. If you do wear the seat belt and don't wear a crash helmet, it is classed as a car... Even more strange is that the US spec three wheelers (and they are very popular over there), the headlamps are mounted inboard (local regulation) and the UK spec is outboard. Once purchased, most US customers simply relocate the lamps outboard as the factory very thoughtfully still fit the UK spec lamp brackets.

Thought this might be of interest Ray. A world famous collection of Grand Prix cars old and new is to close ‘imminently’, its owner announced today.

The massive collection, which is housed in a museum at the Donington Park racetrack, in North West Leicestershire, dates back 45 years.

The owners have not given a specific reason for the decision to close it, but say it has not been taken lightly.

The collection, which also includes a number of motorcycles, was amassed by Leicestershire builder Tom Wheatcroft.

I went in 1983 and was very impressed but went back in 2003 and was already seeing a decline in standards - often poor descriptions of the cars and although it had expanded over the 20 years, most of the new exhibits were from those once great F1 teams called McLaren and Williams...

I have heard the decline has continued through both a number of cars having been sold, and the introduction of display items other than cars. Overall, probably not a surprise - Ken, the time to visit was probably 30-35 years ago!

I had also heard via a Donington Facebook page that Dr Jonathon Palmer was taking over the museum from the end of the year. So is it closing and are the assets (the cars) being sold off in job lots via an auction, or is Dr Palmer taking over the museum and its current assets?

Totally agree with Michael. The time to visit was from the opening in 1976 and for the next few years. Thankfully, I was able to visit many times in those early years and I just hope that the remaining cars (other than as Michael pointed out, the modern McLaren, Williams and Force India cars) are not dispersed. It is crucial that the Vanwall and BRM collections are not split.

The museum is still in an excellent location, situated as it is, within the Donington estate, so hopefully, it will continue as a genuine motorsports museum, as it is easily accessible from the M1 motorway and an easy diversion for travellers heading north. It just needed reinventing or more cars on loan, but I do believe that Kevin's military collection killed it.

Leaving my AirBnb in Nottingham Tuesday September 4th, with a pleasant day at Gaydon and the Morgan factory tour tucked under my belt, a night at the new Premier Inn Malvern (recommended) was next, but finding an eatery that appealed wasn't so easy, as I didn't want to wait an hour for a meal on site.

Eventually, after a fair drive around, a Wetherspoon's (Foley Arms) in the Malvern Hills but local paid public parking in the evening was still required, with no change given, from the pay and display machine... One of the things that does annoy me is paying for parking in the evenings when it isn't too busy.

The following day I headed south to the Haynes motor Museum at Sparkford. This isn't too far away from London for anyone thinking of visiting as it is at the eastern end of the Devon border. Another return visit. I enjoyed it the first time and I enjoyed it again, but this time, I had prearranged a tour of the restoration workshop.

Walking around to the rear of the site, to the workshop, I heard the unmistakeable noise of a classic car coming up behind me and what appeared was this ex-Bira, Rob Walker Delahaye, being prepared for the Goodwood Revival, Rob Walker tribute. The driver was my contact, the workshop manager.

This MG I know well as it is an ex Nottingham car. The talented guy who restored it many years ago was born with a defect on both hands, from memory, he was missing a section on all fingers. Not only did this particular car win several concours but Barry also restored a later MG and had a hand in building a fully rally prepared Cooper S I bought from his boss. Somewhere I have a photograph taken in his garage which, I must scan.

Onto the Goodwood Revival.

The Beaulieu BRM V16 was just a static exhibit, but good to see it anyway. Reminiscent of the 1950 appeal for funds, nothing much has changed, so there was a collecting bin there for donations to carry on with the restoration. Yes, I donated rather more than the 5/- my dad did...

Normally, I dive into the paddock area first thing in the morning (7:30am when the gates open!) and snap away before the crowds make it impossible. However, I normally post in chronological order, but this time, I may just skip around a bit in a totally random fashion, just to maintain interest.

Yes, a steam locomotive! Part of the theme was 'British Transport' and that included British Rail, taxis, police cars, motorbikes, commercial vehicles and buses.

Sadly, this Iso Bizzarini finished the weekend somewhat battered, on the exit to Madgwick. That's twice in two visits that one of these has come unstuck. Sadder still that on both occasions, they were the lone examples racing, unlike say AC Cobras.

Kevin Wheatcroft's personal statement further to the October 10 press release announcing permanent closure of The Donington Grand Prix Collection as of 5pm, Monday, November 5, 2018

"As the wider motor racing public will know, Motor Sport Vision (MSV), took over operation of Donington Park last year year while I retained the freehold. We have kept the museum open for one more season and there was a possibility that it might have stayed open under the control of MSV. They have considered this option, but it does not fit their business plan - and the decision was then made to close the museum.

“Its exhibits will go into storage until my family and I have considered their future. This applies not only to the Formula 1 cars which have occupied this building for over 45 years, but also 'The Wheatcroft Collection', a unique array of World War 2 armour and military vehicles which has been a stablemate to the Grand Prix Collection for 10 years.

“On a personal note, I have been associated with these historic machines all my adult life, having helped my late father to locate many of them, and it has been a privilege to help create and operate both one of Leicestershire's greatest attractions, and a piece of world motor sport history."

From the above statement, it appears to me that Kevin still sets a higher store on his 'unique' military collection than on the cars... A very sad press release.

I can't help thinking that MSV have missed a commercial opportunity here and by not keeping the museum, may even adversely affect the numbers visiting the track. The more there is to do at a track, especially on non race days, the better, something that at least TQ understands.

A museum, café, go kart track and something for the kids are ways to get more people to a venue.

I can't help feeling that these days, less and less consideration is given to paying visitors and what they want and need.

No I didn't Rhys - unfortunately. As one who has always had a fondness for banjos of any sort, from the tenor banjo in a jazz band, to the 5 string for bluegrass and country music to the (Formby) banjolele and 8 string mandolin banjo. Graeme Hardy, the Shuttleworth rider, who apparently did a good job of impersonating Formby, plays!

Install the programme from the link below.

Copy your full size pics to a new directory. (Important as you don't want to resize the originals.)

Go to the new directory on Windows explorer.

Either click on the image you want to resize and then right click which should give you the resize options. (I created two custom ones for TRS - 700 pixels wide for landscape, 700 pixels high for portrait.)

Or select the whole batch and resize the whole lot together.

I managed via the interweb, to purchase an SMER kit of the Talbot, (used to be Merit) but noted that at Goodwood, there were two cars there - and the shades of blue were totally different. The kit was cheap but someone has already pulled many of the parts off the plastic sprigs, which may make painting more difficult. I wouldn't be surprised if some bits were missing either.
