Hi, have just been scrolling through the entry list....some amazing stuff in there. Can someone tell me please what the difference is between class Nb and Nc.......Obviously they are saloons, but with different modifications. Is one similar to our schedule K class, or is it based on year of manufacture? Maybe one of them is similar to what oldfart was proposing to run here in NZ, ie fairly standard cars with very limited modifications. Thanks.

Steve Holmes
03-06-2012, 12:07 AM
Its based on date Gerald.

Group Na is for Historic Touring Cars built prior to December 31 1957.
Group Nb is for Historic Touring Cars built prior to December 31 1964.
Group Nc is for Historic Touring Cars built between January 1 1965 and December 31 1972.

Also, with Group Nc, only cars that competed in an Australian Touring Car Championship race or Improved Production race prior to December 31 1972 are eligible. Thats why you see 1969 Mustangs racing in Group Nc, but not 1970 Mustangs. Nobody raced a 1970 Mustang in an ATCC race prior to that date.

No Anglia's..yet again, were they all converted back to Harry Potter specification??

AMCO72
03-06-2012, 03:56 AM
That is a surprising omission, seeing as the Mini and the Anglia ruled the roost here for a long time. There are quite a few Cooper 'S' entries. I think back to last year when Steve Pauling came up from ChCh with his Anglia for the Chris Amon FoS. It looked so standard....almost as though Auntie Pat had just stepped out of it.....but it went like stink. Whats up with Australia??

Howard Wood
03-06-2012, 04:04 AM
Gerald Maate,

If it aint got a "Made in Australia" sticker on it, its not fair dinkum. Mini just qualifies (as long as it has wind up windows).

No Anglia's..yet again, were they all converted back to Harry Potter specification??

In NSW, I haven't seen an Anglia in Historic Touring Cars since Chris Dubois swapped his Nb Anglia for an Nc Escort.
There are a couple of Hillman Imps and Austin A35's to keep us entertained though.

AMCO72
03-06-2012, 04:12 AM
Howard, are you 'fair dinkum' about the wind up windows? If so I will have to cancel my entry!!!!!

No Anglia's..yet again, were they all converted back to Harry Potter specification??

I thought they'd all been given roof chops and fitted with Lotus motors?

Even in the 60s the Anglia was a rare site on Aussie race tracks. I can only think of one example that raced in the ATCC, Roy Sawyers 998 which ran the 1961 race.

Great day at Phillip Island, Drove down in Frank Borgs beautifully kept Sunbeam Alpine..Part of the Shannons Convoy of Classic Cars..In front of us was a Ferrari Daytona, behind us a GT40, no need for the stereo!!. The Alpine is going to be used next week at the Grand Prix in the parade lap for the drivers.
What a fantastic selection of cars at the island, both on and off the track, I nearly spent as much time in the spectator car park as in the pits. The F5000 brigade put on a great show, it was a pleasure to hunt down Rod G and have a long chat.. Roaring Season is also a social networking site it seems.
Keep those pics coming Angria!.
PPS... there were several nasty accidents,From Rod's description of the F5000 crash on Saturday, the driver was lucky to escape serious injury or worse!

No, Stan was in his car, he has seat belts and plenty of them. The unfortunate guy who got exited from his car was the driver of the Cooper Bristol which hit the pit wall very hard and he had no belts ? not a nice site when you are working on car and hear a almighty thump and sprapping noise, look up and see a wreck (it was a mess) sitting in the middle of track and then notice no one in it, walk out as an official sprints past and a women is screaming her head off up the pits a bit, look out pit fence and about 50 metres up the the track is somebody laying spead eagle like a starfish on his back on the track. It was pretty upsetting for every one.

A couple more of McLaren Can Am. It was a beast. New to team and they slowly got into it as week end progressed. As mentioned the car was beautiful. The sound is awesome, makes things happen when it pass's at speed.

Will put some more photos up when time permits to resize.

Seeing as we have just been talking about crowds, or lack of them on the HD thread, could I ask what sort of a crowd attended this weekend. I know we can't compare with NZ, as there is potentially a much larger base to draw from there, but would like a comment from someone who was there. A request for pictures......yes. Some action shots of the Nb/Nc saloons would be appreciated.

This was my highlight, the Camaro. Meeting the man who ressurected it, being shown over it, and then chatting and meeting the man himself who raced it and then one of his mates who he did many a battle with in days of old. A magic time and will never be forgotten. So easy to chat to and full of beans. Mr Bob Jane has given alot to motorsport and still is by presenting prizes to the F5000 boy's. Mr Beechy, what a jovial person and great to chat with along with his wonderful lady.

PS. If you go to the World Speedway at Western Springs look out and you may just see Mr Beechy and his lady there.

Some amazing machinery around the pit area as well. Did not have enough time to get much but the magic Vanguard Ute is a genuine article, he has 2 of them. This is his toy one with Commodore running gear allround and is well done. It has air conditioning and all the gear.
The F1 speaks for itself, a darling.

What is age ?

Some more of the beautiful machinery on display and giving the wheels a good old spin. So many different and beautiful sounds.

Rod Grimwood
03-13-2012, 10:29 PM
A mixture, the 32 was a hoot, and it did the job as well. The old Corvette sounded nice and heavy. The Camaro is the car of Oliver, another beautifully built car and it also did the job.
The A9X's are still a favourite and Setons old Sierra was trick. Noticed he does not look like a "baby face assassin" anymore. The years roll on.

Rod Grimwood
03-13-2012, 10:54 PM
These explain themself. So neat to see.
Sorry no action shots as I never got out of the pits.

We had a great start on Thursday when we arrived and were informed by MAF "there are a couple of damaged cars in there" (container) Some how the straps on the Lola (Bretts Car) which was at the front of the top row with 3 cars were undone (all 4) and she had been rolling forward when the truck slowed/stopped and back when it moved forward. With the front nose and frame removed for storage it was hitting the end of the container with the front of the tub, and the slave cylinders are mounted there, (were there). And the rear wing strut and back of gearbox was working its way through the nose of the McLaren behind. So we had a bit of work to do and no laps on Thursday for familarisation. Mrs Crawford went back to Melbourne on a mercy trip and when the replacement cylinder arrived of coarse it was different (after John had made numerous calls to confirm it was the right one). Well modifications and some kiwi engineering on the wing strut and she was as good as it would be. A lot of sweering helped the fitting of new steering rack, and modifications to cylinder and fit. The nose cone for McLaren was taken to local surf shop in Cowes and was finished in time for second practice Friday (at a cost).
Thought is that Mr Customs had been in container at Melbourne and not re-done up the straps. The padlock was cut and they were very quite and did paper work very quick at track on Thursday and dissapeared when damage was noticed and discussions started.
In all the damage was costly and caused alot of extra work and also limited time to run cars.

But in all a great place, nice people, and we finished the meeting all in one peice.
