Having met for the first time 1966 NZ Saloon Car Champion Dave Simpson on the weekend, I'm keen to write a story for Classic Driver magazine on the Anglia he raced to the championship that season. Although I have the Shell annual for 1966, I'm thin on the ground for Motorman etc magazines. Does anyone here have magazines featuring coverage of the 1966 championship races? There were seven rounds at Renwick, Pukekohe, Pukekohe, Levin, Wigram, Teretonga, Waimate.

Steve, Graham Woods probably has some of the programmes, Motormans and not sure if Autonews had started . I gave mine away Programmes and Motorman Mags to different people.. I do have a few photos of the Anglia .. which are on my Pukekohe Thread, but can put them into a set for you if you wish.
PS when is the " NZ Specials Book " out ?? - last note you said with the publishers [ the decision on timing ].. must save a few sheckels to get it ..
I do have the 1966 and 1967 Motorsport Yearbook / Annuals - which will have some info especially on the series I would think - away from home base at the moment ..

There is also a 30 Years of Grand Prix Racing about Ardmore and Pukekohe - could be some stuff in there too, as from memory has a bit on other classes of racing !!.

Those books were expensive in the day $3.00 in 1983 .. 5/- then 50 cents for the 1966 - 1967 ones ..
Well was only on about 8 Pound a week when I started work in January 1966 - and Mum took Two Pound for board ..put half of it towards my first car .. compulsory saving scheme-Family Style .. !!

My opening words to Dave Simpson at Taupo were - 'I've been trying to track you down for years'
He seemed quite surprised that people had remembered him but I described as being like a comet - he wasn't there, then he was - and shone brightly, and then disappeared after one final appearance.
I was reminded that he did the 1973 Heatway Rally. When I asked him about his mechanical knowledge, he proudly said "none at all!"

Exactly what I said to him Michael - "I've been tryin to find you for years" he seem quite surprised by it all and couldn't believe the number of people that remembered him. Some guy even bought a model fastback Anglia along for him to sign......amazing, and to top it off what a great weekend. Dale M

Thanks Roger, I have both the 1966 Shell Annual plus the 1966 version by Allan Dick that you've posted. What I don't have are Motorman mags that cover the 1967 season. I have a few random MM's from 1964/65/66/67, but most seem to be from the winter months.

Thanks Milan. Where did you get that graph from? I have the points tally as shown in the 1966 Shell Annual, but yours doesn't appear to be that?
