Time for another installment from the incredible collection of historical New Zealand photos by Allan Porter. This time we're doing something a little different. Rather than the drag racing events of previous installments, this time we're covering Hot Rod shows. To be more specific, these are hot rod shows from 1968 - 1974, and include Autorama, Bay Rodders, Wellington Hot Rod Show, Hamilton Hot Rod Show, and Harbour City Hot Rod Show, plus various random photos of which I'm unsure.

These pics capture some of the legendary New Zealand built hot rods of the era, and a nice mix of New Zealand made hot rod speed equipment, at a time when there was such an industry due to strict import laws.

I'll group the photos based on date and event. Feel free to jump in and ID cars and people as you see fit.

There were 12 cards in the series - I have over 12 cards but missing a couple as have duplicates and in one case triplicates

That colour picture of Ron Wickham's blue F100 custom is the only colour shot I've ever seen of it. That truck started it all for me. I saw it on display in Hutchison Ford's showroom with my Dad while on Holiday in Christchurch when I was 10 years old. It must have been prior to the Autorama show I'm guessing. I'd never seen anything like it before, and I've never forgotten the metallic blue paint and chrome, and the Falcon ute tray on the back. It burned itself into my brain and set the fire in me. Great to see it again after almost 50 years!
