Okay lets widen the countries of interest. Australia has a great history of saloon car racing and they ahve some really great meetings around these cars. Great muscle cars that we will all recognise as they were all the types raced in NZ years ago. We were even lucky enough to see some of the actual cars in NZ when some switched on promoters brought these cars ro NZ.
I have been lucky enough to have attended the Australian Muscle Car Masters in 2005, 2006, 2008 anmd 2010 and have really been treated to the spectacle of some really great cars and racing. The NZ muscle cars groups have made two appearances at Eastern Creek and really stirred the Australian motorsport fans up. Standing amongst them during the races they were really impressed by the cars and the driving.
I have stacks of photos from the trips that I will post as I can but we are all hoping that other members will get stuck in and post their photos too. I am sure that some of the Aussie members will have photos, comments and heaps of news around these cars the more like them. I have only managed to attend at Eastern Creek but the are numerous other historic meetings held in Australia and other cars that haven't made it to the Creek. Enjoy and join in. This should become an international historic motorsport website.

Cool photos Mike. That silver Charger is nice! The yellow Monaro at the top of the second post is a replica of the car that won Bathurst in '68 driven by Bruce McPhee and Barry Mulholland. Mulholland drove just one lap!

I think I have some that fit perfectly here. I was fortunate to obtain a corporate pass to the 09 Gold Coast V8 race where they had some of the Legends on show.
Dick Johnson Tru Blu - This car will be on track this weekend at Lakeside with the Moffat Stang, Beechey Monaro and Geoghegan Stang.

I liked this one too much to leave it out. Jim and Dick swapped places all around the track in a staged race that must have had the Bowdens freaking out as they got so close to each other lap after lap. I have no idea how they didn't swap paint.

Thank you Rod. Much appreciated. I always said it wasn't a bad thing getting me hooked on watching motor racing at 4 yrs old even though my brother thinks otherwise. lol. Can't wait to see the real cars in action tomorrow. The new V8 Supercars that sound like bloody 6's just don't cut it.
When I took those shots at the Gold Coast event I could not believe how much louder the real cars were. I cant wait to hear them again.

Love these L34/A9X shots Ellis. Whatever happened to the Roadways team? They were quite prominent in Group C in the late '70s and especially the early/mid '80s when Grice came on board.

I'll do my best!! always sounds good on paper until it comes down to action!!!
I had 2 meetings with American Historic Trans Am group while up there twice this year and the Australian Trans Am group at EC a couple of weeks ago!! we have some interest happening but we need more than that!! always its takes some planning but if Peirce/Hanna could do it back in the "ol handshake" days we/I/whoever should beable do it todays much smaller "computorised" world.

I fully understand the amount of effort that goes into something like this and very often for no reward whatsoever at the end of the day. Kiwi's seem to be the main people who can get themselves organised to go overseas and stand the expense to help other race organisers create a great show for their spectators.

Your so rite Kiwi285, i have been travelling to the USA once/twice a year for the last 30 years and they(yanks) think its like going to the moon(or something) but i do the PR work and follow it up and then out of the blue i have the odd one stand up like John Watkins(blue 70 Boss at McLaren) and say, "hey" i'll do this!!! and when i shipped my own Mustang up last year for the Shelby Nationals well that just stun'd them!! they thought i was some sort of "money guy" when infact i was the poorest guy there!! but out of all this i've meet some real nice friendly people and thats what i really enjoy!!!
And as for us Kiwi's, one of my American mates thats been down here several times thinks that there are more than 4.5 million of us, because he say's we are everywhere!! even when he vactioned and travelled on the Siberian express several years ago he shared a cabin with a couple of guys from Dunedin!!
In the mean time i'll keep pushing to get these guys down here!!!

Ol Jack Ondrack who has been a regular @ SFOS has been racing since ~2002 if not earlier, quite often has a couple of USA/Canadians with suitable cars tag along for the trip, not so much in recent years due to the $$ issue, but once they have been here they find the $$$ stretches a long way in NZ, but they also find Kiwi's are real tough competitors, so if they are under the delusion that race wins are going to be easy pickings it is probably a rude awakening...
