Time now for Part 2 of this fascinating collection, compiled by Gary Clarke. This is the final installment in the collection, so i hope you guys enjoy it. Once again, lots of grass-roots stuff in here, and some very cool cars, and familiar names.

As in Part 1, please feel free to jump in and ID cars and drivers.

Here we go.....

The Jane Jags are at Warwick Farm...

The spinning Mini would most likely be Bruce Taylor. Of course, that's Pete in the Grace Bros Falcon - the 'Super Falcon' when it got tamed - and it's John Goss in the McLeod Ford Falcon.

John Goss again in the yellow Porsche during Laurie O'Neil's ownership, this was the drive that got him the spare lightweight Falcon shell from which he built the Sports Sedan.

Barry Sharp and Wayne Rogerson in the last pic.

Wayne Rogerson again over the Dogleg, Peter Woodward in the Calder pic was the ASCC in the Elfin 350.

I can't place the date of that bunch of Falcons at Amaroo.

Close, but no cigar...

I was saying 'was the ASCC' as I was in a hurry to get out to work and 'ASCC' stands for 'Australian Sports Car Champion' just as much as 'Australlian Sports Car Championship.' And I didn't want to take the time to check whether that was later or earlier than the Torana.

In the meantime, Terry's guesses... the Hunter was a Series Production car which raced regularly for a year or so, never in the money, it would rarely have rated a mention in reports. The London-Sydney car was green, IIRC.

I don't know about the Mini. I am sure the EH is a Beechey lookalike, not Beechey's. And Blanchard's Camaro would be right, as would Kym Aunger with the monochrome Mustang pic further up.

And it's Niel Allen's Mustang on the trailer.

The last one is surely Sambo in his Celica...

Morris and Moffat at Rothmans at Amaroo is up there, we see KB at Creek in both the Brabham-Alfa and the Mildren-Chev, I don't think it's Foley beside Manton at Hume Weir but again it's too hard to check. Similarly, I don't know who is in the Vee, nor who's in the Mini following Mike Gore off the Dogleg.

And that's the second time we've seen that pic of the John Lord Holden with the Valiant in the background.

Is that last one Chris Brauer's ex-Jane car?

The Ross Bond pic shows him chasing three Elans and a Super 7, one of the Elans will be either Gibson or Allen, I think the last one is Doug Macarthur, perhaps the other is Bill Gates?

The blue and white sporty at Amaroo is Paul Gibson in the ex-Ayers Rennmax when owned by Jim (or Mrs...) Phillips, he's got Bob Hinrichs behind him in the little Kaditcha.

Ok Ray, that's the easy ones.

What about the white Falcon two door? Could this have been the Algiers brothers?

Or what about the red clubman?

Ray Bell
09-08-2016, 03:00 AM
It's not the Don Algie Falcon from '62-'63...

Without programmes it's a bit hard. The Clubman is a fairly old pic, I'd say. It looks like it's at Hume Weir.

Looking at Autopics this Falcon was a 4 door in 1969, and a "two Door" in 1970.

I guess the idea of welding up the back doors was to give it more strength, and it must have been allowed by the sports sedan rules.

Ray Bell
09-10-2016, 07:52 AM
Yes, it was allowed under the rules...

Not that there was anything much in the way of firm rules in 1969.

Some thoughts on those in last three posts:

Post 45
John Mann Falcon This was a 6 cylinder model and ran in special series for 6's at Calder. Most against Toranas
Sports ??
Peter Hopwood in Capri V6 at Amaroo
FX ??

Post 46
Brian Foley in Alfa GTAM
Elfin 400Reoco V8 Could be Jane in cockpit? Hairstyle looks similar
Moffat and Denis O'Brien in GTHO's
Vees ??

Post 47
Jane in 7 litre Camaro at Oran Park
Bernie Stack in Cheetah Mk 6 at Amaroo
Bob Holden in Escort T/C. Unusual for #10. Normally he was "unlucky #13
Red Cortina ??

Now that I have done the hard ones I'll leave the easy ones for Ray.

Ray Bell
09-12-2016, 10:04 PM
Moffat following Jane... that's not a hard one, so it qualifies for me...

But the Cheetah must be a hard one as it's not Bernie Stack. It's Mike Stack.

In the Vees we have two Rennmaxes leading a Revell, probably Phil Revell. I always used to look at that brace on the roll bar of the first Rennmax and wonder how sound it was from an engineering standpoint, but I don't remember whose car it was.

I think that would be Alan Cant's Capri behind Hopwood's Speedo-sponsored car. And if I recall correctly, that Cortina has a small block Ford V8 in it, probably a 289. You need programmes to pick a lot of these cars.

Bob Hinrichs' Kaditcha, it had a Chevy Vega engine as developed by Cosworth. It always seemed a strange engine choice to me in that it was the only one around, but it went pretty well. A very neat car.

It's very hard to pick these without programmes etc, but I can see possibilities that the open-wheeler could be the Lynx Peugeot.

The Elfin 600ff might be Richard Knight.

The yellow Charger next to Leo's would be Jim McKeown, I'd think.

The single seater is John Valentin in a Renmax Ford 1.6

If the clubman car is a Nota, as Dale suggests, then it could be Ray Hanger

By the way Ray I cheated and looked up the programme. I hate to do it but it was so you would not have to go to sleep wondering.

Ray Bell
09-30-2016, 03:52 AM

It's Bill O'Brien's car (Everlast Batteries, Canberra), probably in this event driven by Kevin Bartlett. Check the hazy name over the windscreen:

I do believe it is Richard Knight in the #36 Stillwell Elfin. It is his yellow helmet.

Perkins helmet at this stage was black

The event is at the Warwick Farm AGP meeting in November 1970.

The Formula Fords did not get much time in the sun. There was only one race for them, a 10 lapper starting at 12 noon.
So less than 20 minutes. A long journey for the interstaters.

See also this Autopics photo:

That's Knight leading, I think, Bob Beasley, with Perkins third in the other Stillwell Elfin.

Some thoughts on theses photos:

-number 1 Don't know and don't care
-number 2 Moffat leading Jane at Oran Park in last round of 1971 Touring Car Championship. This was early in the fantastic race.
The photo in post # 47 is later in the race with Jane leading. Moffat had gear selection problems and had to come to complete stop. Then stormed back to be right on Jane's tail at the finish. Was the race where some fool drove an officials Valiant into the race for several laps. Moffat claimed to have not even seen it he was concentrating so much (typical Moffat). A great race.
-number 3 Yet another photo of the O'Brien Diesel Engineering team. I think I've seen that before. Oh yeas it's in post #23.
--number 4 John Cannon in the Hogan Racing McLaren M10B at the Warwick Farm round of the 1971 Tasman Series. Cannon had won the US series in 1970. David Hobbs drove the same car the following year to win the US series.

When you look closely at the front of the Mini is that a later square nose version or the earlier round nose. I think it might be the square nose.

Sean.. I am getting old took me a while to translate the code, a bit of an enigma ..
Have it now thanks .. the tracks !! Levin, Pukekohe, Wigram, Teretonga, Warwick Farm !, Sandown, Surfers Paradise .. and i thought the series was four races in each country, that may have been earlier, when Longford was still used in the 1960's .. Have lots more reading to do now ..

cheers

Roger D ..
PS didn't get to the wet Lakeside, but did enjoy your videos from the 2015 meeting, up at the top of the hill .. and those sliding HMC .. Camaros, Mustangs etc .. great ..

My thoughts on these 4:

- Lionel Ayres in MRC Mk 2 Repco V8
- Pete Geoghegan's "SuperFalcon"
- Allan Moffat in ex Alan Mann Escort BDA. Despite spelling of MOFFATT on the car. This car seemed to disappear quickly?
- I think Mini could be John Dellaca

Is it just me, or does the windscreen angle on Moffats Escort look a little more swept back than standard?
