I see the great hot rodder George Barris has just passed away. He and his brother Sam became hot rod building legends back in the 1950s, with their company Barris Kustom building some iconic cars, including the Hirohata Mercury, Matranga Mercury, the Little Deuce Coupe that was owned by Barris employee Clarence 'Chili' Catallo and appeared on the Beach Boys album cover, among others before Sam left the company and George went it alone.
Other iconic cars included Ala-Kart, while George broke into the Hollywood custom car market in the 1960s, building cars for tv and film, including the Munster Koach, Dragula, Bearcat, Starsky And Hutch Torino, etc. But he is probably best remembered for the Batmobile.
Certainly a legendary hot rodder with a creative mind, and definitely one of a kind. RIP George.
