The museum is very small only 5 or 6 cars and three of these boards, track construction this one and the history of the track there should be more. all contained in the kitchen cafe area.

The two pics I can see of mine are the colour one of race starts...
Who runs the museum? I wouldn't ask for money, but I do want to be credited for the pics.

In post 9 second picture a red Alfa Sprint is chasing down a blue GTV. Sometime back an Australian company was fitting these little sprints with a 2.5 Alfa V6 and latter a Walkinshaw Holden V8. It was called the "Giocattolo". I don't know how many of either version were built or if any still exist. Apparently the V8 version had a performance akin to a F1 McLaren of the day. Spgeti is not the only one who enjoys the Italian machinery so thanks for posting these.

When the owner of one of those Giocattolos got killed in it at Eastern Creek it was said that there had been about seven of them built, IIRC.
I haven't been to Lakeside since it reopened, but I see there are now garages strategically placed to spoil the easy viewing pleasure we used to have. It always amazed me that they built that 3-story building right in the middle of the paddock area where it would block the view of most people at the circuit in some way.

just go to " queenslandraceway.com.au ". I am sure they will want to acknowledge the pictures, although it could be like Baypark, where according to BMC BOY, Peter Hanna requested pictures from anyone wanting to be treated as an acredited " race Photographer

Allan the car behind the Blue GTV is a Lancia, there was in post #3, bottom picture an Alfa with a very radical rear wing, not Giocattolo, but radical, it was quick car too !!.
think there are a couple more for the " Alfisti " in the forum, will check them out.
I also have specification sheets in four languages issued by Alfa Romeo in 1965 covering all their models, if you would like scans of these, send your E-mail via PM on the forum.
cheers, and glad you enjoy the Italians I did. There are some Alfa's in my thread " Monterey Historics 1982 ", more to come.

These great shots of the Italian Festival Roger. # 105 is a quick car and I love the colour scheme. There is one over here in the South Island painted in a similar scheme but a 1750GTV and not a step front. The blue GTV is painted a real rare colour and I have seen a concourse GTV2000 in the same colour in Tauranga. Very nice.

Brilliant photos and thread Roger, thanks so much for sharing.
My pleasure, trying to get used to a new Canon Digital camera, with a reasonable lens set - 18-55 [ used in the pits ] and a 55 - 250 used on the track shots.
The ticket.

Roger, it looks like you have an auto-focus camera here...
It's latched onto the fence to focus and thus spoiled the focus on the cars. I hate auto-focus, you can't trust it, my SP500 has an option to disable it temporarily.

Ray am going to get organised to use the camera properly, giving myself a couple of months before the first Classic meeting, which will features Trans-Ams and I believe some of the Muscle cars from the NZ series, hopefully.
We will go on the Sunday most likely..
there are normally 3 meetings, March June and September as part of the Historic Classic Festivals.

Roger, it's all a matter of what functions the camera allows...
My Olympus SP500 has a function where you can set a manual focus, it's a bit cumbersome but generally speaking for motor racing shots (not pit area shots) you only need to set it on or near infinity and you've got all you want.
Edit: I just went back and re-read that you have a DSLR, that should have a ready availability of manual focus.

Autofocus works just fine.
With most cameras you can activate the AF by depressing the shutter button halfway down, so you focus on the point you want in focus & then while still keeping your finger on the shutter release [half way depressed] recompose your picture to what you want in your final image. Once you know how to do it it's much quicker than manual focusing. As they say "practice makes perfect"
Hope this helps
Ray Bell

Auto focus is a total pain when it's the default...
Using the 'half depressed' method you really never know when the camera will decide to change the point of focus just as you shoot the photo... among other things.
The problem relates to when there's something closer to you than the subject to be photographed. Shooting past a fence, as shown on the previous page, past brush or trees, the camera can grab onto the closer object and your desired subject is then out of focus. And it's worse when you want to pan. Worse still when shooting through wire netting.
As I said, most motor racing photos are taken at or close to infinity, focussing in nice bright conditions will generally not see you changing focus with most lenses. Depth of field will give some flexibility.
If you look at the rear view pic of Peter Jones' Ferrari on the previous page you'll see that the best focus is on the Armco and the plastic barriers in the foreground. To get that shot by the 'half depressed' method would be impossible as the car is going past too fast. In fact, this would be the case in most motor racing shots.
The last pic on the previous page shows this to the greatest degree, the fence posts are sharp as can be and the cars totally blurred out. The other pics have the problem to a lesser degree. Had these shots been taken with the focus fixed, or hand adjusted, they would have been much better.

Ray and Nigel,
Thanks for your advice, I do need to get to know my camera, as want to take better photos than I currently do.
my old photos from Laguna Seca - the Monterey thread [ taken in 1982 ] and the more recent ones posted from Portland Raceway on Ken Hyndman's US thread were taken with a Canon AE1, that I bought new in 1982 used a standard lens in '82 and a long lens in '88, the long lens cost more than the camera.
The Lakeside photos taken with the new digital Canon EOS 700D, with a long lens 55-250 and were downloaded
Must get in some practice before March.
cheers to you both, and hopefully can post better images.

Returning to Queensland in May 2020 for a holiday and catch up with family and friends - mainly Kiwi's .
Hope to get to Lakeside for a Sprint or Race meeting - understand the track has had noise issues in 2019 and had some meetings cancelled.
Brian Ferrabee [ a guy from Pirongia / Te Awamutu ] - who provided an image on this thread, is the Announcer there and siupporter of QR with Young Drivers.
Will try to catch up with him, just need to persuade the Brother-in-law to take me in his Toyota F86 Coupe.
Hope see some good racing, good cars.

While living on Bribie Island 2011 to 2017 - where I joined TRS from in 2015, I went to Lakeside many times
- usually 3 - 4 times a year. Last went in 2016 from memory - only got ghe " good camera in late 2015 when the photos on this thread were posted.
Left Australia in April 2017 to return to New Zealand to live, 2024 were going back to visit in April / May 2020, but that didn't happen.
Finally returned in May 2024 for 3 weeks, and just got home.
Didn't get to see any Motor Racing, but did catch up briefly with my " Companion " at Lakeside - my brother-in-law, who was going through Cancer treatment And then got Covid - hence seeing him " briefly ".
A couple of photos - of previous events with Clive.
One at Lakeside in 2015 and the other is at Scarborough for an Austin Healey " Show and Shine ".
