One or two driver/car/colour changes since then but sadly, also the day of that terrible crash which wrecked Bruce Carter's Mini (#90) and resulted in him breaking his neck.

Jeez Ray I didn't know about that crash or the injuries sustained. Do you thing I should delete the images?
Absolutely not Nigel. He wasn't killed, and only found out his neck was broken a week or so after the event. (Shades of Manchester City's goalkeeping hero, Berg Trautmann, who played on in the 1955 FA Cup Final with an injured neck, later found to have been broken.)
I do have pics of the lead up to the accident taken from the balcony of the Hampton Downs apartment.
Straight after, was our Marcos track parade celebrating 50 years of the marque, when Andy Culpin let me drive his LM500 for the first time and Ray Williams drove my car. Unfortunately, travelling behind the safety car, so slowly, the LM500 showed a warning of low oil pressure, so I killed it - later found out to be nothing wrong but the oil pressure switch was set too high! Drat.

Ever head of Google Terry? Its what most of us have to resort to, to find out what we need to know.
Sometimes we can't, but as stated by Nigel and myself several times, taking a photograph does not endow us with any specific knowledge.
I have an ever growing computer folder full of cars I haven't been able to identify, let alone know what is under the bonnet. It sometimes takes several hours of research and even sending several emails to get any answers - and often, they are dead ends. Now we have so many recreations and replicas, that we no longer even know what is real and what isn't.
Look carefully at any photographs for clues and follow them up...

Hi Ken, it’s good to see there are still a few of us gentleman who can correspond without sinking to be condescending.
I, along with many many others, greatly appreciate your photos and the effort you put into providing captions for them. It makes viewing so much more enjoyable and informative.
I have spent hours Googling under “Redline” and found nothing.
As you discovered you have to add other bits to Redline, and those I could not determine.
Thanks

Terry, all you had to do was put Redline cars or better still Redline cars NZ and it would have come up with at least 5 or six options.
Using Google, you just have to think how to find your target to narrow down the options. I found this in 30 seconds flat (and several other mentions):
From 1998 to 2006 Redline Performance Cars (RPC) were manufactured in Kevin Hunt’s Waimaukau engineering workshop and in total 35 cars were produced.
A remarkable achievement for a small West Auckland business, and with Kevin’s meticulous manufacturing standards these beautiful little sports cars quickly gained a reputation for appearance and performance.
In 2006 Kevin sold the ‘RPC’ manufacturing business and the new owner unfortunately moved the operation to the UK.
This is not being condescending but we all have to do our research. Just enjoy Nigel's pictures as many of us do. Its a picture thread and it takes a lot to upload these days, as each pic has to be copied, shrunk to size, then individually uploaded... Then the pics sometimes disappear and you have to upload all over again.

Terry, I would have given you more if your responses to other posters in the past had not been so dismissive and almost rude, however;
LVVTA is Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association. This is what becomes the generic for what amount to kit cars, many rods, etc.In short, both are correct, Redline (as per all the signage on the car) which evolved from Beattie, inspected as a Low Volume, then registered.

No. Apparently there is nothing "Kiwi" left to celebrate, so now it's all about regurgitating another country's done-to-death once-a-year race. In these days of needing to have a point of difference to make an impact, that very point of difference has been thrown out with the bathwater, and they've gone with what everyone else does. Oh well, at least it'll save me time and money from attending because I've seen it all before several times over.

Agree Andrew. The 2018 Festival (sic) was a disgrace. I doubt I'll bother making the effort to do 2019 unless I have nothing better to do for a couple of hours.
Anything less than 200 cars, not worth the name 'Festival'. I certainly won't be spending all weekend there, with every competing car out on the circuit by 10:30am. Will be back home for lunch.
Tiny grids on the long track is a waste of time too. Bad enough on the original track. The 2010 meeting was brilliant on the original track and is far more spectator friendly. TQ seems to be slowly strangling HD rather than making it more popular. Even the over hyped October endurance race only managed 12 cars.
More great photographs Nigel - of great cars...

I didn't go to the 2018 event as it didn't seem to promise the type of meeting that I enjoy, and if 2019 is more of the same I won't go to that either. I think the January events at Taupo have taken over from HD and are becoming more festival like. Same travel distance for me so I'm more than happy to go to Taupo. Shame really but obviously the new HD programes are working for them so I don't suppose anything will change. I also like the hot rodding scene so I have plenty of events to go along to.

I was very disappointed with the Bathurst festival. They could have put more emphasis on Kiwi drivers who have competed there, I calculated over 30.
None of the notable achievements eg Jim Palmer in 1968 driving a works team Monaro 2nd placing (this was the first year Holden won the race) also the all Kiwi winning drivers in 1999 Greg Murphy and Steven Richards.
I strongly feel the festival has lost the plot.
Future festivals that could feature could celebrate the marque Ford also drivers from the 60s and 70s, one year do saloon drivers another year single seater drivers.

I absolutely love these fabulous photos of Mk 1 Escorts. Probably my all time favourite race car.
My son had one in Sydney about 5 years ago. It was only a 1300, but it sold to a guy in Ireland. Apparently there is a world wide shortage of decent Escort bodies.
For interest have a look at this one from the UK

Auckland Car Club Summer Series Round 2 is at Pukekohe Saturday October 13, Historic Sports Sedans and Invited Allcomers will be running there as our Oct 28 meeting has been cancelled.

John,
Can we ask why that meeting has been cancelled?

Allan-I was told that there werent enough classes to have the event proceed.
Entries not looking too hot for this Saturday at Pukekohe either. Largest field as at last night was about 11 or 12 cars.

Yes Ray, not a good sign at all.
Last year we had 23 entries and so far as of Monday 10....
Overall ERC series registrations as at today - 77.
I suspect, that as usual, there will be a flurry of last minute entries - and no doubt, late entries.
No idea why drivers leave it so late as it is a real frustration for meeting organisers, who have a small mountain of work to do.
TACCOC are offering the lowest entry fees of the season and at Puke, without the neck devices being compulsory, we can only assume that the classic fraternity is now shrinking and not growing.
Sorry Nigel...
Spgeti

Yes this is a serious good deal for entry fees.
With us quite a few away overseas and yes the usual breakages.
Yes shrinking but also being selective as well....
Sorry for the organising team and Nigel etc who support the groups.
See you Saturday,
Cheers

Historic Sports Sedans and Invited Allcomers would have loved to also take advantage of the low entry fee, but we missed the cut for this meeting.
Nigel...will you be at Puke Sat 13th or are you doing HD both days?

Hi John,
No I'm giving both events a miss this year. I pretty much stopped going to Pukekohe when they erected the fences and concrete barriers etc and I find endurance racing a bit boring from a spectating point of view - so I'll spend some time in my garden instead!

Another reason that may account for a few missing entries - It's Bathurst weekend!!! I mean who in their right mind has a race meeting on Bathurst meeting?? 51 other weekends to choose from............

It's hardly surprising that spectator numbers are disappearing. I've been trying to find out what classes are racing next weekend at Hampton Downs without success. Even the TACCOC page has no information!! Has motor racing finally passed away without me noticing?

Hi Nigel, the programming of this season has been very difficult and drawn out.
We were at least 6 weeks behind getting our programme confirmed for this season.
Even at the moment for instance TACCOC cancelled their October 28th Meeting due to falling competitor numbers.
We HMC/HSC have reduced grid numbers due to variance of issues and I don’t see them increasing for this season.
We were down 50% on our entry for TACCOC Spring Meeting and looking at MG I would say close to 30% down.
This will have an ongoing effect on costs to the promoters where they will need to look at increasing entry fees or increasing the classes to get the numbers hence making a meeting drawn out and again expensive.
Spectators come due to grid numbers and if they are down so are the spectator numbers.
Lack of advertising does not help but again that costs as well.
Roll on electric car racing.....and we will all go home..

The Oct 28th meeting is cancelled?? This is the first I've heard this - I was planning on going up for it. This is my point - communication is a bit lacking. Shame really as classic racing is all I'm interested in.

I am sure one of the members on here can shed more light on it Nigel.
We were not doing that meeting but are doing the meeting on the 9th December at HD.
I most likely again will come up for it.

Nigel- on #1708 of this thread I posted this for everyone as everyone looks at this thread-
"Auckland Car Club Summer Series Round 2 is at Pukekohe Saturday October 13, Historic Sports Sedans and Invited Allcomers will be running there as our Oct 28 meeting has been cancelled."
Historic Sports Sedans and Invited Allcomers will be next at MG Manfeild November 9-11.
We have some SI guests whose cars should fit your bucket list Nigel.
I would also agree with Spagetti that this years program has been the most difficult to achieve, though MG Manfeild has been the easiest.......so far

Yes I see that now. For some reason I misinterpreted that to mean HSC & Allcomers were not going to attend. Sorry to say that I won't be at Manfield. Next meet for me will be at HD in early December. Just recently I've been looking through my old photos and posting some to the race cars in sheds facebook page. There must be hundreds of cars sitting in sheds.
There will be an increasing number sitting in sheds too Nigel.
Far too many rules and regulations aimed at F1 and Aussie V8 levels and trampling totally on the amateurs and what they want and need.
HD's change of ownership hasn't really helped and if rumours are to be believed (and they come from solid sources), some of the responsibility of increased costs and compliance has to be laid squarely on their shoulders.
MSNZ hasn't helped nor an overly harsh reliance on so called Health & Safety issues.
Our (ERC) membership registrations are down as are the numbers actually turning up for meetings. I don't know how long the series can justify 2 grids at a meeting and if they were combined, even if they were combined with Alfa, some would walk away as the speed differential is now way too high, thanks to a few throwing a lot of money at it at the top end which puts off slower drivers.
I'm an optimist by nature but also a realist and overall, it doesn't exactly look good for the future. Too many people in authority who aren't exactly aware of the chaos they are causing.
Personally, I'm glad I have retired from active participation and to be brutally honest, it has got to the stage where rather than spend say $12,000 on a full season of racing (and that is cheap by the way), I'd rather fly business class to the UK and despite my criticisms of the event's scheduling, spend 3 full days taking photographs at the Goodwood Revival and visit a few car museums, collections and factories.
The monthly Caffeine & Classics and the upcoming Caffeine & Gasoline meets are going to be better than sparse grids at a circuit - or maybe I'll go to Speedway on a Saturday night.

Unfortunately Ray, you have some good points there.....on the subject of ERC speed differences, what is your experienced opinion on the complete ignorance of the speed bar rule at every meeting as stated in ERC Series Rules 5.6?? Why is it not enforced at all? Surely keeping a grid within a certain "classic car" speed range is safer for all? There have been some very close calls when there is a 13 second per lap speed difference........
Regarding the speed bar Reece, the current convenor decided to eliminate it as three or four 'serious' racers were exceeding it.
I installed a Speed Bar over 20 years ago when I wrote the initial series rules, as it was an attempt to encourage people to NOT develop their cars too far and also to keep costs down - hence the reliance on handicaps.
There are differences of opinion as to whether or not this current move was a good call or not. It would be unfair of me to comment, but I am sure that Chris, being a lawyer would have updated the rules by now.
Speeds seem to have increased over the years, across the board, often due to little more than tyre technology - and therein lies another issue...
Sorry Nigel.

Is XKC 53 real or replica?
Probably replica - which begs the question for those of us who don't want to be accused of mislabelling. How can you tell unless you can spot the rego label?
Answer:
If there is a (NZ) number plate shown: https://www.carjam.co.nz/
XKC53
2016 LVV REPLICA
JAGUAR C TYPE Blue Sports Car
If it is in the UK, where they have abolished rego labels, I have no idea, but they may well have a website too. If anyone knows, please post on my thread as I have pics of 'AC Cobras' with 1965 and 1966 plates and even a 'Ferrari', that I suspect are replicas!

Thanks Nigel for all your great photo's.
Nigel has also gathered [ bought ] a collection of photos by Jack Inwood known as " MR PIX " and has been posting them on the Facebook page " Old New Zealand Motor Racing " - they are great photos from the 1960's some of which have been publlshed on TRS by others as have featured in magazine's and Motorsport Annuals.
This photo is a favourite of mine ;
Garth Souness in the Morrari leads Morrie Hogan in the Allardette at Pukekohe.
Allardette's were a Supercharged Ford Anglia by Sidney Allard, and there are continuation versions being made by his son Allan in the UK currently.

Unsure which meeting at Pukekohe this was but thinking 1965 as still running the Borrani Wire Wheels and the mudguards have not been flared as they were by early 1966.
Thanks for the photo's Nigel.. maybe you could put some on a thread in TRS
