Any chance the Anglia is being pedalled by Barry Phillips, as it's carrying #86 ?

I had a look there and I think you may be right ,first glance I thought it was Ken Richardson's Anglia ,but then Barry brought the Anglia from Ken ,so that would would work out ,its not right for the Sedgedin car because it had the strut mounts sticking up through the bonnet

Pretty sure it's Dave Jurie from Wellington - light blue with a red nose. Ended up in the famous Pukekohe creek

Jurie went off on the inside of Rothmans, down the bank and into the tree. The car was bent in two. I think there was a photograph in Motorman at the time

I am not sure if it was that photo caption ,but one of them was headed up "Anglia U bolt at Pukekohe " it was bent that bad .I think at that meeting Jurie was using no 54 and there was another photo with a caption Car54 where are you, derived from the Sitcom of the same name around that time David , Dave Jurie raced a modified 315 before the Anglia is that right ?

The big bearded bloke was always there, a brace of Hasselblads slung round his neck. He shot most of his stuff on large format and the quality shines through in these images.
His library was bought by the Bruce McLaren Trust when it looked like it would go overseas.

Jack was one of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Large format certainly made a difference to his photographs, those cameras were way out of my league.
Just a tip on photos on this site, anything bigger than 750 x 750 gets chopped at the sides, the first photos I posted were 800 x 800 and they are all chopped.
nigel watts
06-18-2011, 02:02 AM
Yep I noticed that - you can scroll a bit though.
Actually that's the only downside to this forum.
I've got zillions of images but they all need reprocessing to fit so that kind of dampens my enthusiasm a bit. We'll see.

All forums have a limit for size and space, this is unavoidable. Most are set at around 90kb - 120kb, but I set this one at 160kb. With the scroll bar, I'm trying to find a way to just have the page expand based on the image size, but this is all pretty new to me too, the site has only been running about 6 weeks.
nigel watts
06-18-2011, 02:51 AM
Steve,
I've found that it will accept up to 195Kb !!
I've found that some sites will accept a larger image but show it at a size of about 500 on the long side but will expand to full size when you click on it. I think the NZ Hot Rod one is like that - but you have to load your images using Photobucket.
I reckon you've done really well - there's lots of interest considering it's only been going for 6 weeks.

Plenty of pictorial proof in the Mustang and Feisst threads that Fahey's Mustang had stripes Nigel, and as you say the car has the BOAC tour signwriting in the back window, BUT I can't remember Paul in a silver Bell openface with a nomex mask, he used to wear a white helmet perched back on his head with a white chincup. BUT the car's carrying #52, half of its' regular #104....what's the go ?
Very confusing...

The site is fantastic, I just hope the momentum continues.
No real issue with photo size, but if you know a photo is going to get a bit chopped at a larger size, and not scroll, it helps when you are peparing photos to post. It may be ok with photos that people are posting direct to the site from their hard drive, but 750 is best from photobucket, etc.

Is it a 3hour 2 driver race with Jimmy Palmer at the wheel? Just a guess, as I haven't checked any references.
Does look like Jim's scone, actually ! Nice one.

The bearded fellow with the overhang was pretty imposing and his pictures really do the talking here. Top stuff and thanks for the memories Jack, legend. How good is this site already?! Looking forward to contributing but it'll be modern day ramblings of the old guys on video, hoping to interview an old GP driver in a few weeks... Will keep you posted.

I'm pretty sure you've cracked it. Fahey and Palmer ran together for the Wills 3 Hour race in 67. Coppins and John Ward won the race in Coppins' ex-Geoghegan Mustang which was fitted with #53, so I think competitors were given race numbers by the organisers, just for this event, hense Fahey having #52.

Yes Steve that is right ,I have a photo from a magazine here that shows all three cars on the startline, had to scratch my head for a minute because the Fahey car is on the opposite side of the track for pole ,but the memory cells came back, pole was on that side with the first corner being the Elbow,if any one wants a copy of it PM me,you can even read the rego numbers in it.
Brilliant ! That explains the background as well then, it's the loop on the long circuit. Nice work, lads.

OK guys, I think I've solved the issues with the photo sizes, sort of. I had to seek outside help. Basically the images will fit within the confines of the page now, rather than have that annoying scroll-bar. But if they're too large, the size will be shrunk to fit. So I'd still recommend you resize your images to around 750pixels, but if you happen to make them larger than that, they will at least now be fully within the page, without the scroll-bar, as you'll see from the Inwood pics in this thread. Like all forums there will always be the need to control image size, otherwise we'll just run out of space. Although, as Nigel says, you can upload your images using Imageshack or Tinypic, which don't have quite the limitations that forum uploads have.

Looks like its taken not long after the turn in point on the loop ,that appears to be the bank in the background ,I can't remember who did the opening stint in the car that year as it went out after 15 laps with a thrown rod ,if its the race Jim must have started otherwise its practice

Cheers Steve - I've fine tuned my workflow as well which helps
Are there limitations as to what you do or don't want to see on this forum picture wise?
I've got some images I shot in the UK & Europe when I was on my OE in the 70's plus quite a lot of racing here in NZ from the early 80's. These days I confine myself to historic type events as the modern racing doesn't really interest me.
Brilliant site - hope you do have plenty of storage because I can see it growing & growing
Cheers

Yeah anything from the UK and Europe is great Nigel, as is anything from the 80s. I personally have a strong interest in 80s Sports Sedans. I've set a cut-off date for the site of around 1990, though thats not set in stone. So its both motorsport history and modern day historic racing. I know there is a strong Kiwi theme, but I think thats mainly just because most members at this early stage are kiwis, but as it grows it'll become more international, both in members and content.

Are modern "nostalia/Historic" racing events OK as long as they're pre 90's cars?
Would you be ok for me to add a link to your site on my Flickr page?

Yeah sorry, I didn't explain that so well Nigel. Modern historic racing is perfect, as well as the motorsport history. But to keep the historic/history theme, I've set a cut-off of around 1990, or, roughly 20 years old. So that means anything that was new/modern racing in 1990, ie, Group A, etc, or any cars competing in historic racing that were built before 1990 are all OK.
So, for example, if we're talking British Touring Cars, then Group A is OK, as it ended around 1990/91, but Super Touring or the modern day cars run in the BTCC (same as the WTCC cars) are really too modern, at least for now. We can probably move the cut-off date as these categories get older. I should really create a 'sticky' with this info I guess.

Spoke to my brother about it. He said that the car that tripped Dave up was someone Hogan. Is it Morrie who use to run another Anglia ? He said Dave did not race it again and that the running gear was sold to Brian Harvie.

Presumably the running gear went into Bryan Harvie's A40?

Being new here, I have started sifting through the huge number of very interesting threads on offer and this one naturally struck a chord.
Jack Inwood certainly deserves a thread and in fact should have books in his honour. The bearded big bore lens guy stands head and shoulders above the 35 mm class. He was absolutely dedicated and a perfectionist. There would not be too many currently behind a lens, who would bravely stand right in the line of fire as he always did.
Thankfully he did not concentrate only on the high and mighty and covered many club races. Many of the also ran guys were able to get top grade photos from him. He was a good judge of technique and new who the drivers were as opposed to those riding on a cheque book. A very interesting man to talk to.
I hereby pay homage by bumping this thread forward and putting it back on track. Thank you Jack.
