!971 Golden !00 PUkekohe Richard Brocklehurst on his way to winning the wet Golden 100,Jim Richards in the Monaro just behind ,Ralph Emson is in the third car ,with Tim Bailey in the Porsche making the best of the slippery track and the Porsche traction to be up there with them

That race was the second long distance race the XU1's won that year, beating the V8 cars in the process emulating the similar success they had been enjoying across the Tasman ,Brocklehurst had performed well in a late season Pukekohe race ,leading the field for the opening laps,he followed this up with a battle for pole in the Glenvale 100 a couple of months later with Jim Palmer in a similar car and disputed the lead with him until his first pit stop when starter trouble delayed him dropping him to second place behind Palmer, further development of the car before the Golden 100 saw a further increase in pace and he was able to put up a pretty commanding performance in that race which was held under fairly wet conditions

Kerry, is that your car above, posted by Shano, car #41?
Yes, Steve it is, this one must be early in the year as more decals were added later & number surrounds were added. Considering it only raced for the one year there a lot of changes. I would really love a photo of rear of car as there was something across back spoiler ?? Two more photos of car racing.

Hoco - my photo would have been taken at the Glenvale meeting at Bay Park.
That's a very interesting garage you have there - apart from various sexy Holdens, a Yammie YZ 250, Triumph (Bonneville?), a classic Suzuki from the GT series, a classic Honda, not to mention a brace of big Webers etc casually lying on the cupboard in the background.

Would the Orange XU-1 be the ex-McCallum/Homewood car?
It looks like Leonard is across the screen of the red Torana, perhaps Leo Leonard?

That would be the ex Homewood /McCallum orange torana when Graham Crawford owned it.I think he fitted the wider rims spotlights and triple delorto carbs and later flared the guards.

Very few of those numbers match. If "Dad" had this listed as the first race at Manfield it would not be the Ralta International, more of a club event?
seaqnmac27
05-13-2012, 01:27 AM
Yes you are right, unfortunately there may have been a misunderstanding. Not the first international event. But Manawatu car club.

My Dad raced XU1's and strangely Richard Brocklehurst lived across the road in the same street. Also Graham Crawford, 2 doors down from Brocklehurst bought one of Dad's new XU1's that he didn't take delivery of, and he raced it also. All in the same Street of Manurewa!!

To my knowledge that is what I believe also ,the orange one is for sure I am in contact with the owner
For the last couple of days I have been chatting to a guy in Nelson about his Yellow LC XU-1 that he bought as a “box of bits” from Tauranga in 2004. He has the original ownership papers and the Chassis number on the papers matches to the number stamped into the left hand inner guard and is registered with the plate FH1159 and Richard Brocklehurst appears as the first owner on the papers.
It appears as though Richard Brocklehurst's Yellow LC XU-1 isn't in OZ as originally thought.

Photo was discussed elsewhere, I believe car owned by Allen Owers from Ashburton. Rod McElrea is listed in the Wigram programme Jan 1984 as number 777 ANZ Touring Cars. The Charger in the background is Jim Little's car
